I doubt he'd have been that specific and he probably didn't except anyone to take it that far. When I was coaching we knew this with every opponent and you exploit it. Not to a point of fighting but throwing inside in baseball or a couple of hard double team blocks on a defensive end that can't hold his emotions is normal. It takes them out of their element and that's all they think about. Coaches also have to know their players are mature enough to walk away if they retaliate.

That's the difference from when you were coaching and Coach Cecil. He truly believes it is "how you play the game not whether you win or lose". You do not be the instigator, you play clean and within the rules at all times. You respect your opponent at all times. Coach has a system and those players who deviate from that are aware of policy. When infractions occur they are handled fairly and the whole team is aware of the results. This coach has a uniform for anyone that wants "belong" to a TEAM, but you have to get along to go along. Coach checks weekly GPA's and attendance, if not acceptable, YOU WILL NOT PLAY. This applies to every member of the TEAM. Coach looks at football as 7th period. The longest class of the day. And in 7th period he discusses geometry, angles of movement. He discusses physics, time and distance. He discusses statistics, 4th and 20. He discusses rule of law, holding, 10 yards. He discusses philosophy, everyone has a burden to carry. He discusses civics, how to best represent your community. He discusses physiology, taking care of your body for life. In between all that discussion he has a football practice. Amazing to watch. We will not know the results for 5 or 10 years but I have a feeling he will turn out the most productive teams in LC history no matter what their record is.
