Best player you have watched this season

laker20 Wrote:Of the games I've been in the stands at:

Nick Britt is the best I've seen. If this kid had the quality of line that some of the other big school backs have to run behind, he'd be at the 2000 mark already this year. I know I'm biased, but I personally think he's better than Whales and will end up about the same size.

Boston Bryant. One of the best power FBs I've ever seen. Not much speed, but plenty of power. He's like an SEC TE playing high school FB, and played with as much heart as any kid I've ever seen play.

Ben Lake is probably the best lineman I've seen this year. He has a nice combination of power, size, and explosiveness.

I've watched a couple of games online:

Matt Robinson is truly one of the better LB's in the state. He would be a welcome addition to anyone's program. Another kid with plenty of heart, and a natural gift of getting to the ball. He's like the kid on the court that's diving around after every loose ball....and get's his fair share.

Jeff Canady is just a great athlete. He's going to be a force to deal with in the Mts for the remainder of this year, and next. I think he and Nick Britt are two of the better Juniors in the state from an offensive standpoint.

I'll agree with Laker20 on all of these as I've seen them all play in person this season.

Of the games that I've been to this year:

Nick Britt was like a loaded gun that just never got fully fired against Rockcastle. You just held your breath each time he looked like he might get loose because if he gets the open field...he's gone.

Boston Bryant was a juggernaut that if he had been in a little better shape at the early point in the season that Rockcastle played Whitley, he might have made all of the difference in the world. It would take three or four to bring the big boy down.

Ben Lake...what can I say. The kid is a little taller than 6'4" and weighs a bit over 240. Plays against 260 plus pounders all season who usually are the best lineman on the opposing team. He has to outsmart the bigger kids to hold his own on the line and usually can make a crease for a fast back against most teams. Ben is missing the plunging speed of Clark Rowe in the Rockcastle backfield. If he goes on to play in college, should fill out and make a dandy next level lineman. (His old daddy weighs in at better than 300 pounds...he'll probably fill out.) Watch out for baby brother Jared who is already a 6'1" and 250 pound sophomore starting lineman.

Matt Robinson is the best linebacker that I've personally seen this year hands down. Even if the kid gets blocked out to some degree, he somehow still seems to get into the gang tackle with his teamates. He was everywhere against Rockcastle and certainly wasn't the reason why Rockcastle won against Perry Co. Central. Good luck to the kid on the next level. I was also impressed with the Deaton kid from PCC. Heck of a lineman to compliment Robinson.

Jeff Canady is a beast that if left unchecked will lay out a ball carrier on defense and run smack dab over a secondary player if he catches the ball on offense. Especially, if that secondary player is trying to tackle with his arms or smacking at him with a big ole pair of panties.(I witnessed this against Rock) He has to be gang tackled and treated physically if you want a chance to stop him or else he won't go down till he sits down on the bench for a drink of water while the kickoff team is in.

Some others I've seen this year....

Codi Diamond from K.C. is animal on the line. He is big, aggressive and he anchors his team with his leadership and good nature. He will make an excellent player for some college team and I wish him the best. He is part of a two headed monster that includes the Grubb kid who is also fast and big and a nightmare for offensive linemen to deal with.

Markell Hayes for Garrard County. I've watched this kid for the past two years. The Garrard County team has had to grow up around him. Last year he was a force to reckon with on defense as he was everywhere as a secondary player. I've seen the kid cross the field from right corner to make the play on the other side of the field. He has jets and plenty of fuel to burn. With the players getting better as a whole on that team this year, he has been a wonder to watch in games. Against Clay County this year, his absence due to cramping was noticeable as Clay came back against Garrard. He reentered when he could and helped Garrard to a four overtime victory against Clay.

Bolin from Lex Cath...I was at the John Hardin game and JH came out and hit LexCath hard in the mouth to start that game with a stop and a score. I thought to myself, this is going to be a rout. Lex Cath came back under the steadiness of Bolin and drove the ball downfield with that awesome passing attack and put one in to answer. The kid is a leader and a heck of an athlete. I know that JH beat LexCath...but, JH is just that good.

Kaleb Leach from Frankfort...The kid single handedly kept Frankfort in the game until he got hurt early in the second quarter against Rockcastle. He is elusive, fast and hard to bring down. If healthy, I would compare him to Britt from Russell County, and just a little more physical.
