I can understand this with most consolidations where several schools are discontinued and a new one is built---with a new name, mascot, location, etc, with the exception of Laurel County. The Cardinals won the state championship in 1982. Then North Laurel was created because the school had outgrown itself. Instead of leaving the original school as Laurel County High, the school officials changed its name to South Laurel, even though it is still in the same building, same gym, same baseball field, and uses the same mascot name as the "old" high school. That has never made sense to me. Actually, only one new school was created, not two. Students were taken from the Laurel County High and moved into the new school to make North Laurel.
But in the state program it has Laurel County winning a state championship in 1982 and then another category for South Laurel when they won their championship.....even though they are the same school. Go figure.

We have a couple of similar issues in our region as well. Allen County High School was formed in the 40s and there was the city school Scottsville High School as well. The two schools consolidated in the 1970s. They had built a new building for Allen County High about 5 years prior to the consolidation, and following that, the newly named Allen County-Scottsville High School was in the same building, with the same mascot (Patriots) as Allen County High. In the Sweet 16 record book, they list Allen County and 10 regional titles, thus combining the two schools. In their own school, they have trophies in the trophy case for Allen County High, but have no banners recognizing championships from before the consolidation, but banners for after.

My school, Warren Central (who has 11 titles by the way, hoping for a 12th this week), had a similar situation, though there were no championships prior to consolidation. It was formed in 1968 by a consolidation of Warren County and Alvaton. They remained in the Warren County building, retained the Dragons mascot, and had the same colors. Beyond that there was a prior school South Warren that also had the same mascot and colors. I would not combine any championships were there any, but that's just me.
