Alabama has: Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Huntsville, and 2 Major Universities with decent cities around them. (I didn't even mention Gadsden, Hoover, Dothan, Decataur)

I lived in Hoover - Hoover is a part of Birmingham. The city of Birmingham is probably 200,000 people. The metro area is closer to 1.5 million. Lots of talented athletes down there and some pretty good programs.

Louisville is nothing to sneeze at (Lexington is not nearly as strong). But neither city can compete with Birmingham when it comes to football. Neither could compete with Mobile and it's surrounding area either.
