Shelby Valley 60 - Knott County Central 57
Aslan Wrote:The refs were in Knotts favor. I didn't have a horse in this race. When Perry loses I also refuse to blame the refs though.

Unless they get beat by Knott :dontthink

If Knott beats Perry, I won't say a word about the refs. I know well get hosed at Knott, but I'm expecting that. If I say anything about the refs I will go with a KCC avatar for a month.

I'll hold you to that. But I don't want to talk abt this anymore.

Back to Valley and Knott! What a game!

Yes it was an amazing game. Really glad i was able to watch it. It was nothing but to great teams giving it there all to bring home a win. Hope to see both teams in the sweet sixteen.
Nice comeback from KCC. Valley is a lot better than i realized..Congrats on the WYMT Valley.
Aslan Wrote:I disagree with your entire post.
Nobody can guard Justice. He was splitting doubles all night. Bartrum is a good defender, but he can't guard Justice. Justice was missing shots he usually its and not getting the calls when he went to the goal.
& the refs protected the HOME team.

Is he God?
One of the best games i have ever watched
I think Logan Bartrum needs to play a lot more for Knott. He is the heart and soul of this team.
According to mr milan Shelby valley is the best team in the state. In said it many times during the broadcast. After watching them play for the first time if they are the best team ky had to offer this just may be the weakest high school bb has ever been in this state. In my opinion there wasn't one d1 player on the floor last night.
Aslan Wrote:I have no idea. He's not good. He just loves attention and thats the only way he's going to get it because when Knott plays a decent team he won't be doing much scoring. He didn't even start tonight. I bet that was a big hit to his ego. :lmao:

He is a better player than most people give him credit for. Had 8 points in the first half against Hazard the other night, then only got to play like 3 minutes the second half. Whitaker had his way with Knott in the 4th quarter until they brought Logan back in the game. He does make a difference.
Good game. Knott County showed a lot of heart tonight with their comeback, but Shelby Valley was just to good. Great win by Valley.
High Sheriff Wrote:I was disappointed with some of wymt's coverage. I thought Jim Frasure showed a definite bias for Knott, and I am definitely not a big Shelby Valley fan.

I thought WYMT did a great job as usual. I didn't notice any bias. I thought Jim Frasure called an excellent game.
Great game and great basketball atmosphere in this game. Two very good teams who both struggled throughout. Knott fell behind and I did not think they were going to make a game of it. Valley seemed to fall apart in the 3rd quarter and let Knott back in the game. Cox and Justice both struggled. Knott did not have a good shooting night from the 3. Varney was the difference maker in my opinion, where did he come from? Thats the best I have seen him play all season. I think if these two play again, it would be another great game on any floor. Definetly #1 and #2 in the mountains!!

Ok. I was just wondering, See his name in every thread about it. Thanks.
Watched game on TV. Was ready to change channels... but something told me to keep watching... I guess Halfway to Hazard at halftime. SV went through the defense of KCC with ease early.KCC down 13 at half. Brian and Jim made some good observations about driving the ball to the basket. SV started shooting ball too quickly with little offensive balance.KCC playing at home does give them somewhat of an advantage, but only slightly. Give both teams credit for playing with heart and passion. SV going into the game was the favorite and lived up to it. KCC earns respect throughout the region. good luck to both.
Congrats SV
As a former player /coach I would like to offer some insight. First of all ,both teams should be ranked in the top 20. I think there is some seperation between them and the top 3 or 4 teams statewide. On any given night five thru twenty could beat each other. Secondly, you can't judge a team by one bad perfomance. Example: Knott gets destroyed by Seneca. McCreay Central beats Seneca and Male. Knott beats McCreary Central. Finally, I was at lasts night game. Both teams struggled offensively. The officials let both teams play very aggressive. This had a huge affect on how well the teams shot the ball. Hard to score effectively when you are constantly getting pushed, shoved , or hacked. They need to get used to this because this how the game we be called in the state tournament.
mountain hoops guru Wrote:So how many times does this make Knott being in the finals and not winning,7 or 8? All of those times this tourney is at home and they can't seem to get the monkey off their back and win a championship. And with all that they lose this year, don't look like they will have another shot for a long time. Wish they could of come through for their seniors, but thanks to JBS, Tate Cox is still going to be the all time leading scorer in this tourney, congrats Tate.

I do believe this makes the 7th time!
Aslan Wrote:Let me say this, I'm tired of going to Knott Co and them cheating everytime they play. The refs knew where they were at tonight. Hatfield gets pushed out of bounds, no foul? Stewie falls down? That's gotta be a foul! Valley wins by at least 20 on a neutral floor. It's a **** shame you can't watch a fairly called game there.
Now the good.
Knott played well. Stewie is playing better than any player in the 14th. Tate played good at times, he hit some big shots, but he's not playing as well as he was last year. Knott never should have thought about pressing. You can't press Valley.
This is the worst game I've seen Justice play. This is the first time I seen him and Valley rattled. Knott's fans have no class but they were overall loud and effective.
Both teams struggle in there half court sets. Knott actually did better than SV. If SV can't run and gun they struggle.
I hate to say it, but Knott is at the moment, the best team in the 14th.
Congrats to SV and Knott on a nice run.

I thought those 13th Region Refs called a good and fair game! Nothing to be upset about!
Booher is making an effort to get some more guys on the floor. The kids coming off the bench seem to have a good grasp of their role and play hard. This is still a work in progress for SV. They are winning on talent and have yet to really click this season. You saw glimpses of it against Knott and Clay County. This team is at its best when the game is wild and they have people running around playing defense the full length of the floor. Knott struggled to get a shot off through most of the first half. SV gets in a little trouble and had to pull the pressure back. If they can teach Taylor Newsome and Varney to stay out of foul trouble they will be very good. SV's team the last few years has been much deeper and the individual roles of some of these players has drastically changed. Varney is a head scratcher at times. You watch the start of tonights game or the game against Miller Grove and you think wow this kid can really change a game. And then you watch a game that he only plays 9 minutes because of fouls and you wonder what happened. Cody playing a lot of minutes with his defensive pressure and transition game and Taylor Newsome's rebounding and inside game will be the key to whether this team accomplishes its goals.
PATS2011 Wrote:Congrats to SV on their championship!

Way to fight Knott, correct me if I am wrong but this could very well be the biggest comeback in a WYMT championship game. SO proud of the way KCC fought in the 2nd. If they hadn't played terrible that first quarter they more than likely would have won this ball game. Like everyone said, this should shut up all the Knott haters. I think they proved tonight they are the best the 14th has to offer. What an exciting game to watch. Congrats again SV.

Oh and btw SV I truly apologize for some of the childish actions of some of our student fans, I try and keep them in check every now and then but they shouldn't have been talking trash to SV fans in the stands. Everything else was typical pep club, lol. Fans try and get into peoples heads, that just part of the atmosphere. I don't think by ANY means KCC fans are the most unclassiest in the region, I have seen a LOT worst.

Once again, congrats SV on your 2010 championship!

KCC did show a lot of heart and made a great come back to make a game of it, I think I saw a game in 2002 between Cawood and South Floyd in the championship game that South Floyd was down 20+ and come back to win the game in overtime. Been going to this tourny since something like 88 or 89, back when some called it the Clay County Classic because they were the only team winning the tourny, and this game is one of the better games I have seen. I really enjoyed watching this game.
king360 Wrote:Even though you are directing it towards Perry ill give you that. And I will say Knott right now looks like the best in the 14th, won't get any arguments from me. On a different note, did anyone see those boys in the Knott pep section arguing and cussing at a little kid?

Those are the same bunch of thugs that sit in the stands during baseball games and taunt and say things about opposing player's parents. A couple of boys are on the baseball team. And the rest play football. I was there and witnessed one of them throw one of the basketballs that the cheerleaders were throwing into the stands, right at the SV bench. SV took the ball and held onto it. They didn't throw it back at the thugs. Looks like they should ban them. But, hey... that's the Knott Admin for ya.

Congrats to SV. KCC fought hard, but couldn't pull this one out. A big congrats to Tate Cox on the Sportsmanship reward. Maybe the thugs should learn something from this great young man.
Congrats to Shelby Valley they are the best team in the mountains and will be at Rupp come March.

As for Knott County they played well just to get beat by three. As for KCC being the best team in the 14th I am not sold. They defeated Hazard by 17 or 18 earlier in the year and Hazard was only down three with under a minute to go in the WYMT. PCC seems to be slumping but Coach Hatcher will improve this team. When it is all said and done I think that PCC or the ever improving Hazard bulldogs will win the 14th region.

I didn't see it, But I literally LOL'd thinking of that, I thought they was a soft pep section.:biggrin:

Was this when #12 for Knott was out of the game? He is a good player but lacks the experience and intensity that Bartrum and other players on the bench have to play in this game. This is the only move of Fraley's that I questioned.

thugs...lol....really...if you want to blame someone for the boys in the pep section getting upset..look to your bench. telling the boys to "bring it on" and that type of stuff. looked like to me those "thugs" were just taking up for themselves. Rolleyes

I didn't say they were best in the state. I said they were the best in the mountains and ranked #1 in the state. It is hard to beat the likes of Trinity, Scott County, Holmes, etc...
