Preseason Mr. Basketball Favorites
#31
kywldcat01 Wrote:You can't be serious in saying he does the most with the least.

I could understand if he played on a bad team, but Elisha is apart of a top 10 basketball team. I'm not buying that.

Like last year's John Hood? You can't be serious. Hood averaged 30 and 15 a game last year and was the only option for the Maroons so he'd have 3 defenders smothering him the whole game. Elisha sees no where near that kind of pressure because of Hatfield and the Newsome boys.

Again, we're not trying to say Justice isn't this or that. But if anyone says anything like he isn't close to being the best in the state or we don't agree with your praises of him, all of a sudden we're bashing the kid.

This thread is about the Mr. Basketball candidates and all of a sudden it's turned in to an Elisha Justice thread. Get the point why we point out his flaws more than some of the SV and EKY contingent? Nobody is hating. We're simply stating the truth and you get defensive.

I'm serious, because I'm talking individual talent--not team talent. If you are talking team talent though, do you think he has near the talent around him that Holmes or Scott County does? I am not buying that either!

Talent wise only. Johnson, Guyn, or Pittman should win. Pittman doesn't do nearly as much as he should with his ability though. The other two do, in my opinion.

Maybe he is the bottom of the top 5-10 in the State of Kentucky! Do not get me wrong he is a good player but please do not Drink the kool-Aid. I was watching Justice play in some of the top AAU tourney this year. I saw the top players and he was not one of them or did he hold his own. Let me make it plain he is not better than Ricardo Johnson, Not better than Pittman. He can not touch Ge'lawn Guyn. So if he wins and anyone of these Kid have a break out season.
MR. Basketball is not worth a damm and means not a damm thing. Plus Ricardo will not falter and the others will not falter either. :dontthink

okay lets get one thing straight. first and foremost are we allowed to curse on here? and second saying justice can't touch guyn is just stupid and you are stupid for saying that. shelby valley played scott twice this summer and beat them twice. and i doubt you was at the game. but justice was getting double teamed the whole game and guyn was one of them and they could not contain him at all. after he embarassed those 2 there was a third waiting on him. he picked them apart the whole game. so don't go bringing that crap up again because you make yourself look like a retard.

5timechamp Wrote:If the award goes the player who has the best individual year. Which is what you guys say you want......Justice will win.

I too believe that Mr. Justice will have the better year.
#35
That's what I'm talking about! Justice is great and hot!
#36
I see Justice possibly being able to come away with this, because the other 4 guys are in pairs on the same teams, and will take votes away from each other. And there is no question Justice has the talent and heart to win it.

First of all Scott County does not double team any player! They did not double OJ Mayo in 2007 when he played Scott County and they did not double team Justice. Maybe you was thinking of the half court trap that Coach Hicks runs somethings. Plus Justice was not the one making shoots against Scott County it was his teammates. Coach Hicks played 12 players in both games. Ge'lawn never was on Justice unless it was a trap. You are the one that looks retard thinking he is the best player in the State . I will say it again Justice maybe the 4th to 10th best player in State. For you or anyone to put Justice over Ricardo, Ge'lawn and Pittman is very retard! :please:

i think everyone needs to watch out for larry west from LC

Of course coming from a LC fan lol. BUT until he proves anything nobody needs to watch out for anything. Im sure hes a fine player because i watched him play football and hes very athletic. BUT this is the big dogs of Kentucky and not the "decent" players. Im not saying West isnt a good player. But these are the best of the best..

And im not bashing West either, Im sure all of you agree that i doubt he is anywhere near these Mr.Basketball Canidates talent. If he was up to there level. Im sure we would have heard something on him before.

What makes you think Justice will have the best individual year? Honestly, players like Josh Sewell, Aaron Watts, Donovan Gibbs, and Thomas Jackson will all put up better individual numbers than any of the Mr. Basketball candidates for the simple fact that they don't have much around them so they'll be asked to do more.

Again, Mr. Basketball isn't all about stats but rather who is the best player in the state and has the best all around game. Want proof? See the 08 Mr. Basketball race where Miller got it over Hopson, despite Hopson having much more impressive stats.

Holmes and Scott Co no doubt have more talent than SV. Wouldn't that make it harder for those kids to shine though because they're getting less opportunities to score and shine?

Pittman doesn't do nearly as he should with his ability?! You obviously haven't seen the kid play much then. He was Holmes leading scorer last year on a team that had 5 future college players in their starting line up.

I'd say he does just fine. He also averaged 18 ppg and 9 rpg against top 20 competition.

True but at the same time you have to realize that Justice isn't going to be getting those nky, wky, and cky votes that the other 4 will be getting. If you think Justice is going to get Mr. Basketball on EKY votes alone, you're sadly mistaken.

In 08......Miller was a great player who had signed with KY and played for one of the most tradition rich high schools in the state. Hopson came on the seen late and he could have averaged 50 and it wouldnt have mattered.

Johnson is the favorite and Justice is the darkhorse. Hopefully no injuries will be involved.... one of these two will win.

Once again it not a two player race! 1. Ricardo 2. Ge'lawn 3. Pittman and about 10 others that includes Justice. :dontthink

Elisha Justice is a great player but why does some of the fans try so hard to put him over players that are great players in there own right. If Justice is rank 4th and three other players are ahead of him, I think that is great for Juctice! But some fans put the other three down and talk about injurys and do not look the right part. Funny Good Luck Justice!

Hopson came on the scene late? You do realize he was a 5 star prospect during his high school career and a top 50 player nationally, right?

I think Justice will win this award and he can thank Coach Pitino.

:lmao:

:thatsfunn

Look-up he is a walk-on! We have a great player that is a walk-on at UL Richie Phares so please do not think Pitino is not out recruiting another Five Star point top run his team for the future. He just got one two weeks ago at got a offer. Justice wants to be a coach that is why is going to UL not to star for the program. But if does not live up to your hype as Justice fans you will just find another to carrie the banner. Great player but way to much Hype at this point.:please:

Hopson went through the roof during the AAU curcuit before his senior season.

I personally think that the fact that Miller went to UK and Hopson signed with UT played a role too. Just my opinion.

I honestly don't see Elisha winning it this year. Sure, all of EKY is behind him but I doubt too many others will be.

There is nothing wrong with thinking he wont win it. All I have said is if he has a big year which I think he will because of some of the other guys being on the same teams (Holmes, Scott Co.) he could sneak in and win it.

Can we stop talking about hypothetical situations and just wait untill the season gets started to talk about Mr. Basketball...No one has proven anything yet so anyone's guess is as good as anyone's...I want to see all the candidate's stats to the first game they play in then i will start to THINK of a player to crown Kentucky's Mr. Basketball

I Agree! :thanks:

i think Ge-lawn Guyn will take the honor of mr basketbll because he has the most potential out of all players and is gonna impress alot of voters and it will also help when scott counry wins their reigon and possibly state and he puts up good stats to go along with the teams success

I love Ge'Lawn and his game but when it comes to most potential in the state, that goes to Elijah Pittman of Holmes.

The kid is 6'8, athletic, and can play both inside or outside at his size.

Coach Henley summed it up best when he made the following comment about Pittman:

"When Elijah plays with a bit of chip on his shoulder, he dominates."

I think when EP gets in to a college program where he's pushed every day, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Elisha Justice - Shelby Valley
#56
Ge'lawn Guyn, Scott County
#57
I have to give Elisha Justice some love. He is a great player.
#58
Whoever said it was Booher's fault that he didn't play them against better team's they went to Louisville last week and scrimmaged Iriquios. They are a big physical team and they beat them by 20.
#59
It also involves a lot of politics.
#60
Jsutice, in my opinion, was the most impressive player at the Sweet 16 last year. Guyn is ultra talented and works very hard. While the Holmes boys have great physical ability, I was not overly impressed the 3 games that I saw. Not a knock, just my simple observation. If I were to HAVE to pick right now, based on my observations, it would be Guyn and then Justice. As far as splitting votes with Jackson and Euton, I highly doubt that. Those two are nowhere near Guyn, IMO. They are not SERIOUS Mr. Basketball contenders. And where is Johnson going to school again.....?
