Lawrence Co. 36 Sheldon Clark 30
#91
I have not been this excited since they brought a backup halfback in the game after an injury to the starter,,his name was michael west. Lawrence is back and Im telling you what,,there will be more fans than ever and nobody backs a team in numbers like Lawrence. Its a shame fans dont follow a team even when they only win 1 game in a year. But thats just how it is. Gerad parker and Michael west's years didnt have any more excitement than last night. I am so grateful to coach sammons. He should run for county judge!!

Not seen the game, but seen the score. After watching, SC and Breathitt last week as well as watching the Lawrence Co. and Paintsville game on replay, here is my theory on why SC and Coach Hager had a need to go to the air.

As previously posted, preparing for the spread and then trying to prepare for the wing T has to be difficult because the offenses are so different. Secondly, Coach Sammons and the Wing T is an obvious high powered offense. Paintsville is by no means world beaters but the ran through, around and over them all night long. After watching SC put a goose egg up on the spread offense of Breathitt. Then give up 36 to Lawrence Co. it proves to me one thing, the Bulldog offense has to be tough to stop. So when You have Lawrence Co. stuffing the run on D and putting points on the board, there's only one answer to all this you have to put the ball in the air. This means even if you're a 95% running team, there has to be adjustments made. You can't fault Coach Hager for trying to adapt to the game. It was a close ball game. Congrats to Lawrence Co. and to SC keep your heads up. You all pulled the upset last week, but sometimes you need to be kept grounded. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Really suprised about the score. I knew LC was supposed to be much improved. I thought it would be a close game. But this is a shootout for SC. Makes me wonder where their Defense was. Congrats to LC. I hope they have their team back. Its been on life support. Makes for a good rivalry.

I was at the game and this is my take. Sheldon Clark is a very hard nosed football team. They will make some noise this year. The mountain 3A will be a three team race in Prestonsburg, Sheldon Clark, and Breathitt. Sheldon Clark was laying the wood to LC, and the Bulldogs would bring it back. Very good edge of your seat type of game. The Bulldogs are for real this year. They bring the intensity when they step on the field. Shane Pack is a hoss cat. Hunter James reminds me of a young Michael West. #75 is a brut on the offensive line, and will get some serious college attention. The LC offensive line did a great job giving the QB time to throw. The LC QB is the very accurate, and opposing teams will not stack the box this year.
I'm very proud of the Bulldogs and I look for a very fine season. This is the big question, can the Bulldogs progress throughout the year and compete with Bell County and Boyle County? LC runs the Wing T offense perfectly. I'm very anxious to see #1 Larry West in the back field. LC was the better team last night. I'm not taking anything away from Sheldon Clark either. The sky is the limit for Lawrence County. The defensive unit will have to improve to make a serious run for a state championship. Kudos to the Dawgs and head coach Luke Salmons.

lcgrad2002 Wrote:Now does anyone else wanna tell me LC isn't for real, I have stood behind them from day one.People can say whatever they want to, but the fact is #1 LArry West did not play, and I believe a lot of these players were tired of hearing they only way they would win is with him, well we found out tonight they can win without him, but he is going to put this team over the top. A great group effort, some many players that need recognition I'm just going to say the whole team, but the way Shane Pack put the team on his back in the 2nd half and drove them right down the field for two touchdowns was awesome. LC is back

YOUR DANG RIGHT BUDDY!!
CardinalAlum Wrote:I think that this the best thing that could happen to Sc get a good win to start the year and then this lose to bring them back down and show them that they can be beat.
I agree 100% I think it was the year 2000 of maybe 01 we went 9-1 in regular season play with our only loss coming at the hands of Seldon Clark. That got LC out of the clouds and back down to earth because after that loss LC turned it up and made it to the semi's and lost to the Bluebrids. Good Luck the rest of the way Cards
First, Great game to the LC and SC teams! With that said, I have watched these LC boys play football together since they were 5 years old. These young men and the LC coaching staff deserve the credit for bringing life back to LC football program. Although #1 will be an asset to the LC team, he is only ONE young man. We need to continue to give the young men that were on the field Friday night, ALL the credit they deserve!! After all, they were the ones on the field last year trying to find a way to hold their heads up with every failed attempt to gain a W. They have worked hard and now it's paying off!! Now that Friday Night has come and gone, I wish nothing but the best to LC. Thanks for a great game and thanks to all the young men I have watched grow up with LC Football.
You play one game at a time,,,a fan can overlook a game,,a coach and team cannot. Here is who LC has left,,east ridge, shelby valley, east carter, winfield, greenup, rowan county, boysd county, tolsia. I hope the team is not thinking what I am thinking. This team could do what the 1996 marshall team did. But hey its way too early!!
Congrats LC
I hope sheldon clark wins the rest of their games and the state championship!!!Gerad parker and company might have had the best team LCHS every had and they came to Louisa and kicked our butts. Hats off to the Cardinals!!
monster_energy Wrote:yes and they lost!!!!!!
they threw the ball 3 times maybe last week if that much and they won!!
whould you want 252 yards passing or a win?
Dont ya think they were kinda forced to throw the ball a lil more on 3rd and 20, 4th and long, or down with 2 minutes left? A running game wouldnt mean much in these situations they were in last night
Now as for the game, very exciting game to be at. I dont understand how anyone can say that was a boring game because even though my team lost, still a very exciting game. congrats to the dawgs. played a good game and stuck with hat workd for them. IF SC doesnt make an adjustment to stopping certain run plays, JC wll rush for 30000 yards next week. And for LC, i would exactly, definitley say theyre "back" yet. Thats the second game theyve won in two years so you cant really say that. But if they continue to play the way they did last night, they will have a very good season.

I have never so pleased with this team.
Luke has done a good job with this team.

P-burg has remained in 2A while Sheldon Clark and Breathitt are now 3A schools.
My bad. I noticed Prestonsburg was 2A while scrolling through the rankings earlier today. That's impressive!
I think whats most important right now is not to get the big head, and I don't think this coaching staff will let that happend. I dont think anyone needs to be reminded of what has happene the past few years for this program ,we are goin to take it one game at a time, like the saying goes"day by day,we get better and better." we are out to prove a point and show not only the mountains but the state we mean business, and if you dont belive us by reading on here then get out and come watch us play, you wont be dissapointed. go dawgs keep it up beateast ridge.

The Bulldogs are going to need to watch themselves through the remainder of the schedule. The nice edge they've developed in their game could be threatened with the weak competition they'll be playing over the next few weeks.

It really would have be in Lawrence Co.'s favor if it would have scheduled another difficult game or two somewhere later in the year. Personally, I think a Lawrence Co./P-burg game would be a BLAST this year.

With that said, and considering LCHS's situation over the past few years, its current schedule IS understandable, however.
catwoman Wrote:Never been a better win in the history of the school.I played on the first LC team and have missed very few games over the last thirty years and have never been prouder. Coach Sammons has a surprise for the whole area. He has built from the ground up a pretty powerful team. i felt like sheldon clark after last week was the best in the mountains. Nothing against them either. A very well played game. The officials were great. Good calls or bad calls had nothing to do with the final score. Both teams really played good hard hitting football.im still pinching myself.

Now come on, you know when LC beat Breathitt in "97" it was a bigger win. You guys broke our 42 game win streak and advanced to the state semi finals. You guys even tore down the goal post in that game. Good Luck on the upcoming season.

I agree with you. I was at that game and it took two days to get my voice back. There is NO question that was the biggest game in LC hsitory.
Stepp has a nice arm. I don't see teams stacking the box on Sheldon Clark this year. They also have a great coach. He really impressed me with some of his play calling. Sheldon Clark is a good team. They have talent at the skill positions.

Lawrence County continues to impress more and more that I watch them. This is a ver big, physical, and fast team and they utilize all their skill positions. I'm glad to see that they won, but for all those people waiting to see Larry play will have to wait one more week I'm told. You know that if he played, the there would be alot of people saying the only reason they won was becasue of him.Lawrence has a lot of talent besides him kids that you will never hear about do a dang good job, Stephen Lyons. Turner O'Brian, Blake Bradley, Travis Mollett, Jacob Marcum, Blake Schaffer. The whole offensive and defensive lines did a great job. Sorry if I missed anyone's names this was a team win.
