Larry Maggard to Jenkins?
#31
sherman14 Wrote:If Larry Maggard was to coach at Jenkins. It would be one of the biggest hires Jenkins has ever had. He is a great football mind. He could do wonders here. They have some talent. And it needs to be utilized. He use to be at Jenkins years ago. I would be very pleased if he does come down to Cavalier Country.

It would also the biggest career suicide Larry would ever have done. He needs to stay at LCC where his talents would be utilized. When was Larry at Jenkins? I do not recall him ever being at Jenkins beside living there.

It will take time, but I think he will do fine.

I'd say he could get whatever he wanted.

He would be back at LCC by the time his boy reaches high school.

It has been told that Larry Maggard has accepted the job at Jenkins and that he is currently putting his staff together... He will get two paid assistants and I have already heard the name of one assistant(Joe Colwell) and don't know about the other assistant coaches...

Also heard that Don Carroll will be taking over the baseball job at Jenkins as well.... Don't know if this is good or bad>>>>>

I agree! Larry would be coming to a program that rarely had enough athletes to field a middle school team. Jenkins graduated about 9 football players and 3 of their best football players transferred to LCC after football season this year. Jenkins is back to the numbers that Mark & Randy Johnson had when they coached middle school and there were not enough kids to field a team. Thus, the reason that Logan is at LCC and a wise decision on Mark's part.

But, if he does come to Jenkins, I wish him much success.

Last I spoke to Don he seemed to not have any interest in taking the baseball job for the sake of getting back to umpiring more. I think the next Jenkins baseball coach will be Tim Seals. He has a lot of interest in taking the job

Listen Larry Maggard is a great coach but the athletes are not to found in that school.....he will hep this program but there wont be any drastic changes in the near future....but i can honestly say i am wanting to know who will be his assisstants?? Anyone know??
#45
I have a few names, but out of respect I can't say because it hasn't been offered to them yet, and don't know if JHS is going to give him assistants that he wants.

IF this is accurate, again, IF, then Jenkins has definitely made a move in the right direction with Maggard and Colwell. IF is a very big word.

I do know this, Joe use to be an asst. over here at KCC and would have been the next head coach IF Beeder left. Colwell, if he is going to Jenkins, will be a huge asset offensively for the team. Not sure who will take care of the defense....... I do know that he was offered the job at Morgan when Maggard was there, not sure of the connection but hey, it might work this time.
#50
Good luck and wish them the best. They'll need it. It will be good to see Coach C. back on the sidelines.
#51
I agree, this is a good opportunity and I do believe that IF Maggard did not take the job, he would have been offered the spot.
#52
When I drove by the high school at Jenkins on the way home from work this evening, the sign in fornt of the school said "Welcome Coach Larry Maggard Go Cavs"
#53
WOW, I guess that is official! That put some end to this thread......thanks fisherman

whoever was behind this hire, needs a pat on the back or a big raise. I am sure the students will be thrilled to have him. Do you know if Colwell is for sure coming?
#54
Then I guess it is official. Sherman14 will do cartwheels.

We can thank the superintendent and the new principle Lisa Carrol for this hire from what I hear. This is a great hire for JHS!! Don't know about Colwell.
#58
Now it will get back to being about the students. When I played basketball up there in 95, that was what it was about. The football program, and all the sports was competitive.

The eye is on Jenkins, it will take time but keep the folks in place, you will be just fine. Have they hired the baseball coach yet?
#60
From what I have been told, they are still looking for one.
