I agree VV, the Pledge, especially nowadays with terrorism running rampant, needs to be said in schools.

I graduated HS last year, and I cant hardly ever remember praying in school. I prayed when i was in 1st or 2nd grade maybe. But we always said the pledge before school, every day. I think prayer should be optional in school, K-12 it should be an option that isnt forced upon anybody. And I also think there should be classes in school for bible study (or just a religious study if you dont believe in the bible).

yes.............. R & B there should be some kind of religion class taught in schools. somehting that touches on all religions. and as for the athiests, they dont have to take it. just cause they dont believe doesnt mean they have to force others to miss out.

How many Gods are there? I want my kids to decide what type of religion they want to follow. I do take my kids to church on Sunday, but I dont want them to feel like thats what mom and dad does so I will also. If they have this chance to learn at school also then they have a chance to be given their own mind to believe or not. The way I am understanding you is that we take them and make them believe the way we do. If we do that then we will drive them away from God and the church. The shape the world is in today is due to the fact that we as parents want our kids to do what we do, eat what we eat, watch what we watch play the sports we play. I want to give my kids a chance to decide just as they do in "SCHOOL" I am not telling my kids what to major in or what to become. The school is teaching them that. If we are taking that from school then why not keep them home and teach them everything ourselves.

i dont know or care how many Gods they might be. a religion class is part philosophy and part history so i dont think it would make a child follow some religion more than another. plus this is not a class for 3rd graders. it would be a high school course.
by then i think a person might have some knowledge of where their beliefs might be. anyways just by takin a class doesnt mean they are forced into anything. they offer similar course in college.

I just dont understand how being "politically correct" and not doing the pledge or prayers is fair to everyone. The people who are offended by it should be allowed to wait in the hallways or something. I think it takes away the rights of the people who DO want to do it. Isnt that the reason this country was formed, religios freedom and such, so why take that freedom away because of a few that gets offended.

offended.... hell i am offended that i cant pray to God or say the Pledge. i am tired of all the political correctness in this country. people are too dammn sensitive in this country.

I totally agree that you shouldn't force a child to say the pledge but I believe that it should be said. They can choose not to say it. Same with prayer, have a moment of silence, people can pray or not pray, totally up to them.

And why did all this stuff just start popping up?? Why has it been allowed for soooo many years and now someone doesn't like it so noone can say it?
But praying still goes on at school functions. Look at the Pikeville v. Belfry game, they prayed before it and it wasn't just a prayer for safety but one could tell that it was a Christianity prayer. Hope somone from the outside doesn't hear about this.....

And about Religion being taught in schools, I learned about it my junior year. But we learned about 5 different religions -- the teacher didn't force anything on us but rather just stated the facts about each of them. I don't believe this is wrong is it?

I don't see a problem in that Beef, but when you force one religion, like Christianity on an entire school population is when I see a problem. It then turns from public school to Sunday school.

So is saying the Pledge forcing it on students? Or posting the 10 commanments (which I'm indifferent on) forcing the kids to Christ? Noone says they have to read it.
