Lou. Central 40 - Breathitt County 19
#91
bobcatlunatik Wrote:cobble didnt dominate breathitt i was at the game and didnt see him make a solo tackle. therefore ur taking credit from other central players. cobble is good but #4 whoever that kid is. he is a much better defensive player than cobble or it looked like in this game.

Cobble's stat line epr the KHSAA

8.5 tackles, 3 Tackles For Loss

Also, here is Holcomb's quote from the Herald Leader article:

Holcomb said Central defensive tackle Mister Cobble was the problem.

"He's just unbelievable," Holcomb said. "He makes it so tough, and there's so much quickness around him."

I said it last year when Central beat Belfry, said it when he committed to UK and was named only a "2-Star" Recruit, and will say it now that his HS career is over:

Mister Cobble is the most dominating defensive tackle I have ever seen play HS football. Of all of UK's recruits I expect him along with either of their QB;s to have the most illustrious college career. When you have coaches from Male, St. Xavier, and Highlands all commenting about how great of a player he is then you know he is a very special talent.

Cobble is for real. Best defensive player in the state.

BUT they were not close to his size. i mean come on you take a RB that is 6'3" 225 pounds and runs a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash. that is a good time for his size. unquestionable fugate wins Mr.Football next year if he stays healthy. oh yea the big horse couldnt gallop on artifical turf he needs real grass to gallop on.

4.5 no way (Fugate is nowhere near a 4.5 right now either FWIW)
4.6-4.7 range for May
Equivolant success against Lou. Central in the State Finals
He, too, was an outstanding LB

yes channing fugate runs a 4.58 or 4.6 in that range

I am not sure what speed he is but from the replay of the game that was broadcast yesterday on a run off tackle by Chance Hughes of Central Fugate got off a block just as Hughes was making his cut he got on the sideline and with the angle ran stride for stride with Hughes making the tackle after about a 30 yard gain.

Thats not that fast.

I have seen both play and Dustin May was a great High School player, but he doesn't have the athletic ability Fugate has. I just think Fugate has more upside than May did.
Yay Central High! Don't want to say (okay I do!) "Told ya so!!!!"
Great season Breathitt and you guys have nothing to hang your heads about. The team is full of good kids and they are well coached.

2 Things

1. Central is not "JUST" fast. It takes more to win than just an idea of genetically dispersed ability that is dormant and uncultivated. It takes sacrifice and discipline. Talent and speed alone have left many teams at home watching highlights of state championship games or watching other teams celebrate across the field. Credit must be given to the student-athletes who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for a team goal. Some schools are mentioned (County Schools/Mountain Schools) and descriptions that accompany are hard-nosed, tough, effort, and desire. Central is mentioned and description that accompany are fast, talented, gifted, and natural ability as if the kids from Central sit around all year and roll out of bed and win state championships. The kids at Central work every bit as hard as those kids at the Catholic Schools and at schools in the County and in the Mountains. I think it is a discredit and race-tinged to continue to promote the idea that other teams work hard and Central just has natural gifts.

2. Channing Fugate is a heck of an athlete. Even better in person than I saw on film. However, I believe perceptions of him are skewed because of the competition he plays and the ability that surrounds him. I believe he deserves some good looks from some good college programs. Is he the best back in the state? No. Is he in the top tier of football players in the state? Yes. It is tough sometimes to compare talent across such a large continuum. What you can compare is him to his competition and "hands down" he is the best player in his region. Across the board he is in the 75 percentile of players in the state. I think you put some players from Jefferson County in the Mountains and they would have similar numbers to his this year. I think you put Fugate in Jefferson County, he would be one of the better backs in the county, but not the best. He is good but sometimes limited vision and personal connectedness skews perspective. Let's not forget that Chance Hughes had 169 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns in the "Battle of 28's" as compered to Fugates 133 yards. Granted Fugate had tough sledding against the Central "D" but Deuce Finch played against the same "D" and had over 180 yards (FYI Central QB Chris King had 209 yards rushing against St. X). The point is Fugate is a good, athletic football player but let's not put undo expectations and weight on his shoulders as more than what he is.

See you next year! Is there already a three-peat buzz? Centralllll...Central High!

May never ran faster than a 4.7 40 yard dash, but in a straight line he was faster than Fugate.

Fugate's lateral movement is better, but that's about it.

Missed this during the week...great article on Chance Hughes and his medical condition.
Hughes was one of the best running backs ive ever played against in my highschool career... he dominated union in the semis just so fast its incredible with reading that story how he played. he definately was a major part of centrals offense in 2008 during playoffs. god bless ya man hope it all goes well in college.

You are exactly right redcoach! :howdy:
Yeah guess fugate finally knows what is like to play against real teams its not that easy when you play against teams that are good maybe if he played a tougher schedule he may have been good enough and ready for this team.
Fugate if your on here did you go to the doctor for them ankles cause i know everyone seen them get broke out there.

Clark was close size wise. 6'1" 215". Just as fast. He signed with Murray and transferred to Morehead. Clark had two terrific games in the 2005 and 2006 state championship games.

I don't think Mr Football is a given.

He did some galloping at Belfry.

4.58 or a 4.6 is a heck of a 40 time. Too much of this 4.4 B.S. There is an occasional high 4.4 but a 4.5 is about as good of a realistic 40 time as you will see. I f you can run a high 4.5 or 4.6 you are fast. Fugate runs a 4.6 and he's 230 pounds, that's impressive.
bucslover68 Wrote:Howard was not 220. He was nearer 200 and maybe 205. The roster from 2004 at state says 205. He was probably 5'9" - 5'10". He was faster than Fugate, but Fugate does have the size advantage. Howard also has something Fugate can never have: 2 championship rings. It will be really interesting to see how Fugate projects at the college level. If he is intent on staying a running back, then low to mid D1 is where he will end up. If he wants to change positions on offense to tight end or fullback, or concentrate on defense, then a lot of bigger D1 schools come into the picture. I liked watching Channing play last week. He is a really good all-around football player.

Your insane, i've watched Channing play and he is a much better Running-back than he is a linebacker.Channing will have a outstanding year next year, break the record for most rushing yards in a career, and get a full ride to a great school.

That's fast for a guy his size.

First of all I am not insane. Name me a big-time D1 school who you believe will recruit Fugate at running back? If there are some, then I am wrong. I just believe he will play a different position in college if he goes to a big-time school. That's not knocking him, that is being realistic. Plus I never said he would not go to a great school. Some of you people need to quit being so sensitive and look at things more objectively. Also, I never said anything about him playing linebacker. It sems to me that strong safety would suit him pretty well.
DevilsWin Wrote:That's fast for a guy his size.

Fugate is a 4.8 guy, and maybe a 4.7 on a good day with a strong wind at his back.

I think he is a great high school RB, but you guys are killing me with all the exaggerated tales.
Sarrr Wrote:Ummm... I think you're wrong on all 3. I KNOW Mister Cobble is a junior (you should have seen the look on my face last year when they told me he was a sophomore, after I asked what colleges were looking at him...), and IIRC from talking to the LC fans last year, Wilson is also a junior, and Patterson (QB?) should be a senior this year. I may have the names on Wilson and Patterson mixed up though, but the QB should be a senior.

Yes, I talked to some of the LC fans after the game last year. I was standing around waiting and so were they and it was cold and they asked me who had been looking at Maydo.

BTW, Cobble is probably going to be the top rated defensive prospect in the state next year.

Umm, i don't know who this guy got his info from, but Mister Cobble is a Senior. Tim Patterson (6'5- 220) is a junior. As for Ridge Wilson, he will accompany Mister Cobble to U.K.
