Belfry fans seem to complain more after a win than they would after a loss. Sounded like a great game. The fact that Matney has really gotten JC up to par with the mountain powerhouse Belfry is a win in itself. I don't mean anything bad by this but when Belfry starts talking about class I always laugh. Belfry is the same team that when we played we couldn't take our helmets off on the sideline because people were throwing nuts, bolts, pennies and ice at us. Same place that when we ran from the locker room you would get tagged by at least two or three fans on the way to the feild. The same place where a couple fans tried to jump one of our players at the gas station after the game. The same place that when we did win they attacked our fan bus. Belfry was also my favorite place to play football. They live and breathe football there. Thats what made it great. Like i said i don't mean anything bad about it. Thats just the Belfry i remember.

Yes, I do believe Belfry having that big game experience was a big factor in the game. I mean JC was crazy excited but Belfry came in, went to work, got the job done, clocked out and went home...business as usual. Even when they were behind the sideline was calm no one was in panic mode. I'm so glad we finally proved some fans wrong. Belfry is the real deal.

:lmao: I promise you that those things do not happen at Belfry.

Yea, the only part of that post that is correct is that Belfry fans live and breathe football. BTW, useless, but interesting fact, and proof that Belfry has played "bored" these last few weeks, like I have been saying. East Carter rushed for more yards in the first half against the Pirates, 215, (Belfry led 48-0), than JC did the whole game. There is no better big game team or coach around than Belfry and Haywood.

Well, Belfry sure did make a statement with this win.

Those were my high school days. I remember how it was vividly. There were guns and shots and everything of the such. Scary night in Belfry.

That may have been true. I was nine and remember the fight after thefield goal was called no good, but the other poster made it sound like you had to fight your way out of Vipperman everytime. That is just wrong and stuff like that should not be put on here IMO. BTW, the game was in 76 at Belfry and the Pirates won, 14-13.

Both teams played their hearts out. JC has a beautiful stadium and really nice fans, can't say enough about them. As has already been said, the only fault I have with the whole thing was the music being played, most of the time right up to the snap of the ball when Belfry was on offense. That really got to me, and if it was not for wanting to watch a great ball game, I probably would have left. The biggest surprise for me was the fake punt by Belfry. That was a real game changer and gutsy call by Haywood. If I was going to fault Matney for going for the two point conversion was loosing two timeouts back to back. I do not fault him for trying it. If it would have worked, it would have been another game changer into JC direction. And making him a god of football. Except it didn't and considerable change the game back to Belfry with the momentum. It was a great game and the better team Won !!! I am a Belfry fan and if JC would have won, I would have said the same thing.DITTO...but I liked the music...lol...I think it gave our guys momentum
Best of luck to both teams in the upcoming playoffs! I would like to see boht schools bring home the gold.

I know a guy he told me at the old field people had to walk thru the Belfry fans to get to thier cars and it wasn't nothing to get wounded kicked punched or cursed.
And he said people on Harleys would be at the edge of the end zones then rev their engines so the opposing team could't here the QB call the signals.
Was this stuff true ,I myself do not know but if it was that's a long way from having class.

Good luck in the post season and bring another trophy back .

Let's not disgrace what was a great game, and what has been, for the most part, a really good thread, with hogwash, unfounded, statements. BTW, I have always respected your posts, but if you for sure don't know something happened, then don't post it.

I asked if it was true I never said it was.I want to know and this board is for gathering info is it not?
Other people were talking about what went on as well why single me out??

You know in all honesty...Charlie Dotson didn't even practice this week. What a game! He was sick all week and under doctor's care! Randy Webb and Josh Francis have both had bad backs this week and didn't practice. Zack Francis didn't get to play either because his knee is hurt. Shane Blackburn has mono and is out and freshman Gary Runyon stepped in and played those seniors quiet well I think! My son was a sophomore on the line and in the middle school, he had never beat JC...that was something psychological that he had to over come not to mention the big guy that he had to block! I am just thankful that no one was hurt and for the most part the game was played with heart!

Sorry, buddy, I did not mean to seem like I was singling you out. It was just that some of this stuff is crazy. Like I said, I have always liked reading your stuff, good posts IMO. The motorcycle revving definitely did not happen. I am sure there are a few isolated incidents at every school that should not have taken place, but for the most part teams fans are pretty civil.

A question for the Belfry fans. When was the last time a freshman started a game for BHS? Gary Runyon did a great job in the middle, and he has a great future. Hopefully, Shane Blackburn, a sophomore, will get back in the lineup for the playofsf at middle linebacker.

Congrats to you guys the team played a heck of a good ball game, you proved why you all are one of the best teams in 3A.Plus I had my crow last night.

Well, sort of a disclaimer here, but I was sort of right the first time. The game was played in '76 , but it was the '77 graduating year. I kinda knew what I meant.

He was from JC and we both threw out the compliments and all that. Then I told him how I wish JC was in a different class, because we all know the monster that Highlands potentially is. I told him, however, that one day, if they do win it all, that it will be that much sweeter.
Why would you want to be in a different class? Like you said, If you win you want to beat the best and that makes it all the sweeter.
