Harlan Co. 32 - Powell Co. 21
#31
bluegrassballa Wrote:Me Christian? Lmao!!! I am definitely not Christian.

There was actually a couple Harlan players that didn't have any class at all. For instance, one of them kicked his leg back and kicked one of the Powell players. Another pushed another Powell player down. But other than that, Harlan was respectful. 42 is a very hard runner.

Boo....hoo....:Sad04: :Sad04: We are talking about football aren't we???

I really dont understand why everyone on this site puts powell down so bad. They have improved a tremendous amount from last season and they never recieve credit for it. Im pretty positive that none of the chain gang would have said anything inappropriate to a player to offend them and i most certainly know that no coach would have been that disrespectful. Once i seen a harlan county player knock a powell county coach down. That coach quickly jumped up and gave that player a pat on the back for the hustle he gave. Powell county isnt so bad. Quit putting them down so much!!! I agree the refs was not so great and i actually think most of the calls was for harlan and not powell. Pass interference should have been called all night...it was pretty obvious quite a few times.

Well I don't think kicking a player is very classful.

You are absolutely correct about that...I didn't mean to condone that, but I'm sure like someone said above, they were giving a little back of what they were getting. Emotions run high in the heat of the moment, not saying that is an excuse, but I really have never seen our boys be out and out disrespectful to anyone.

Nobody has said anything ugly about Powell's kids. They played hard and did great. They have really worked hard and it shows on the field. Nobody has said anything ugly about the coach. He is obviously doing something right, because that team has really really improved. The fans were really supportive of their team. I think we would all agree the refereeing wasn't the best, either way. Some of the men working the chain gang were plain ol'jerks. Probably needed their mouth mashed for talking to kids that way, but they were obviously frustrated watching the team that they love, struggle. If that's the worst anybody can say about ya, then your doing alright.

Best of luck the rest of your season.

We are looking toward this Friday night playing against a very good Middlesboro team at home. Go Black Bears!

I know, that I didn't try to disrespect them. But you are right, emoitons run high and people do stuff. Its all good though!!

I'm going to give one last comment on the subject of the chain gang ordeal, lol. The reason so many of our fans were walking the sidelines to watch the game is because if you weren't on the top or at least top 2 rows of the visitor side bleachers AND standing up, you couldn't see the game really well. I was lucky enough to get on the top row and I stood up the entire game so I could see all the action. With the bleachers being so low to the ground and practically directly behind our team and cheerleaders, you just couldn't see good. I don't think our fans were down there trying to hastle the chain gang; they just wanted to have a good view of the game. Big Grin

i happen to know the chain gang and what is being reported is from one point of view. i know for a fact one of the members on the chain gang bent over and a member of the harlan county football squad spit beside his head and almost hit him. the chain gang did not say anything to the player he addressed the coach. so, there are 2 sides to every story and never before in the past 5 years has there ever been an incident that these guys have ever disrespected kids. they are not that way. so, please get back to the subject of football and stop talking about something that can be interpreted by both sides in different ways. this is not benefiting any one.

With as many players as Harlan had, I'm surprised you could even see the game a little, lol.

I am just now getting to respond to a lot of these posts. I have been in WV for a funeral.
First, Powell played the worst half of football it has played all year. Harlan didn't do anything special to beat us in the first half. We made a butt-load of mistakes. #42 talked trash all night. He was a descent runner. He would be more respected if he would just shut up and run. It was mostly on "D" when he ran his trap. We made about a 9 yd gain and he was acting like he sacked the QB or something. I even saw him cussing at one of Powells coaches. Looked like he was daring the coach on the field...Rediculous!
Powell got lined out in the 2nd half. Harlan has a good team. Not great. Bath Co. seamed to be more physical. I was impressed with #3. He can really move. I thought overall that both teams played good at times. Harlan just had more calls go their way.

how do you know what #42 said if you was in WV. at a funeral?we had calls go our way.Rolleyes we had 2 tds called back. so dont set there and say we had all of the calls.the game is over. end of story. good luck to the rest of your season.

Oh yea #42 ran for 182 yards 2 tds. i guess he is descent runner.lol

#1 football fan Wrote:clarification: the chain gang does not make calls. the offical had to make the harlan county fans back up off the grass and get on the track because they were harassing the chain gang. so, just wanted to set the facts straight.

also, if anyone has a complaint about the officiating it is powell county. there was several blocks in the back, pass interfence, and incorrect spotting of the ball that was done during the whole game. however, powell is not a bunch of cry babies and they took their loss and they are looking on to the next game. yes powell is not breathitt county they have class!!!!!!!!!!!

CLARIFICATION: I was one who was accused of harassing the chain gang to which was bull crap we had to stand on the field (thanks for all the seats) and nothing was said to the chain gang babies until they started screaming at our boys about the should have been safety! They most certainly were screming at teenagers I heard it and saw it from about five feet. What class screaming and telling high school kids to shut up and be quiet they are not refs, then turn around themselves and question the refs. I wouldn't have a grown man scream at my bears and not get screamed back at! I heard one say I'm not watching this bad game then once Powell got close they were buddies with the refs and all happy. Personally I think they didn't like hearing all of the Bears fans cheering and were upset they were losing they pouted up and complained to the refs. That bad officiating went both ways. The old guy would count off ten yards and take three or more steps on both teams and then look at the others to see if he was right. I admire his dedication but he needs to give it up.

Guys its over and in the past lets end it here.

Game is over, if Powell had played the whole game as they did in 2nd half they would have won, but if frogs had wings they wouldnt hit there butt when they jumped. Worst ref's i've seen. For Harlan to be a 5A school they better get alot better before next year. Imagine them playing somebody like Highlands that wouldnt be good. And if Powell had coal companies backing them they would have better seats for the vistors side.

We weren't putting down your bleachers or facility for that matter; the seats were fine....just low to the ground and very hard to see from. Thus, some people chose to walk the sidelines in order to see the game. You guys have a very nice facility I think...and at least you have one; we don't. We still play at the old Cawood High School field. And for that matter, I wish we did have coal COMPANIES (pleural) backing us. We've had ONE coal company that I know of so far to donate a substantial amount of money, that's all. The entire community, however, has been very, very generous in backing the Bears this year and we appreciate each and every one of them....there are too many to name in this post.

One thing you all might want to consider is turning up the volume on your speakers. I couldn't hear a THING the announcer was saying all night long. That was a little aggravating for those of us who rely on the announcer to know what some of the calls are that are being made. Big Grin

PS....If you want to sit in some pitiful visitor seats, look no further than Estill Co. right down the road from you. I was practically afraid to sit on those bleachers last year, lol. Wink

I had to leave for a funeral right after the game. I heard #42. He is classless. Knowing that a coach ain't gonna go out there and whoop a little kid.

His classless nature takes away from his performance. If he would have shut his pie hole, I would have said he is pretty good. I can't get over how he acted. He also coughed up the ball and then all of a sudden...He had cramps. Go figure! Harlan is above average. They will get stomped playing in 5 or 6 A next year if they play like they did Fri. I was not impressed. Powell played 1 Qtr. of football and still made a good game of it. If Powell plays 2 Qrts...They win! You better get that passing "D" fixed if you want to compete for a championship.
BTW, great game #3

I guess that is supposed to be part of the "Home Field Advantage" I think it is a shame also. Visiting teams should have a place to dress and a good set of bleachers to sit on. It is only gonna help put more fans in the game and thus, more money for the schools. I also couldn't hear the announcer very good and I was on the home side. They must've had it turned down cause you can usually hear him.

I am sure the coaches will consider the advice and fix the pass d. I don't think it is broken. The biggest chunk of that was on a trick play. One other large chunk on a middlescreen which a very aggressive d is vulnerable to and the first TD pass came on the FB slipping up the middle of the field which was a good play call agaisnt an all out blitz. After seeing it once #3 was covered when he tried to streak after that point so they were fixing it. By the way, there was a block in the back on the flea flicker right in front of the qb. And to call 42 names is slandering a minor by the way. Just so you know. He is not classless. He is a good kid. #1 for Powell talked all night long. Is he classless? The guy running the box cussed on the sideline all night lon. It is easy to say you know he did not, but he did. He started talking back at the coaches when they tried to get the ref to call a safety on the kick return. He said that ain't no da@##ed safety, he's down on the F@#$#ing one inch line. Was right there and heard it with my own ears. Dispute it all you want. There are some truths that are hard to accept. Powell played a decent 2nd half but if "IFS" was a fifth, we'd all get drunk. If HC had played like the first half it'd been 60-12 also. We can all play that game. Get over this one and look to the juggernaut Betsy Layne.

Estill's home bleachers aren't great either. They sit 25 yards away from the field, now that was good "engineering" if you ask me. Those visitor bleachers are very good. They have been used for 30 years (LOL) pretty durable if you ask me. If you never got to see the original Estill field you missed out. It was a very intimidating place to play and was filled by 7:00 pm every Fridy night and the games started at 8:00.

I was not at the game, nor have I even seen Harlan this year, but I believe #42 probably played for Cawood last year. I remember a tough, hard-nosed back that was a load at running back for Cawood last year, but had terrible sportsmanship and a terrible mouth. I believe the game I was at he even got ejected. I hate to see it, especially from him because he has a load of talent.
