Neon was the worst I played on during my career. South Floyd's old field was pretty bad too...another was Elkhorn City, I don't necessarily agree with trees in the endzone....hahaha.

I have had the experience of playing on some bad fields and I would have to agree the Dust Bowl at FN may have been the worst, with the occasional bottle, coal, and dust, but most fields in the mountains had distinctive issues. Wheelwright and its rolling ruts, I heard the same rumor about the copperheads, not to mention the occasional lime or shotgun! Elkhorn and the big tree, Virgie was bad. After attending Vipperman stadium (Breathitt vs Belfry in I think 05 playoffs) drainage! Jenkins had a sewer smell. The locker rooms at visitor side of Johnscreek WOW. GREAT MEMORIES

Bell County's field was improved two years ago with the bermuda grass and the rubber pellets that were put down. Still gets pretty sad toward the end of the season with so much use from all age groups using same field. This is especially so if there is a lot of rain.

Perry County Centrals field is pretty pathetic. It looks like a nice Middle School field at best. Very poor for one of the biggest schools in Eastern Kentucky. Shame on them for not building a stadium beside their school.

Sheldon Clark!
Jeez that field was terrible.....
I think it was 2002, Magoffin vs Sheldon Clark and it came a huge downpour at their field....
The locker rooms was field with water and the field... o man the field.. It was like playing in coal, slimy dark and dirty coal.

Powell County is the roughest field iv played on, talk about not wanting to get tackled casue it hurt like the dickins when you hit the ground lol
03-27-2008, 09:40 AM
Well I dont think anyone from Russell would agree with you on that becasue not very many RBs got tackled on that field. LOL
I can remember the 2004 season when Gross went nuts on it. The score was 28-0 with 2:36 sec off the clock in the first quarter. This was a memorable game and will always stand out.

I agree, new football facilities are definitely needed for Perry Central.

Bracket field aka the snake pit....im from the south floyd area/wheelwright and to alot of people it was a terrible place to play on but to me it didnt get any better than bracket....
Also, South Floyd's old field...I believe it was called the "snake pit." That one was pretty bad too.
We played a JV or Junior High game...can't remember which one, at Sheldon Clark and we wore our white away jerseys. At the end of the game all of us were covered in black.

yep, the old south floyd field definitely takes the cake

From a players stand point Sheldon Clark.
From a fans view point Breathett Co.
I was very disappointed after seeing all the money spent on the home side
and small amount on vistors.
This has been a few years back and hopefully has changed.

Powell Co. "was" the worst. We got some work done and now it is pretty good.
