North Laurel 53 Harlan County 47 - OT
#1
Tough game to watch, the 15th region refs were obviously determined to call almost NO fouls. One would think that would benefit HC considering they only play 5 players unless they have foul trouble or injury, but it allowed North to be really aggressive guarding Huff early without any fouls called and that made it tough for him to get in a good rhythm. HC rebounded from probably their lowest offensive out put for a half in years (18 points) and took a 9 point lead late in the 3rd qtr then North hit a big 3 to cut it to 6 going to the 4th qtr and that’s when Mr Davidson took over the game and made several baskets and and a few fts…Having the defensive assignment on 6’7” or 6’8” Davidson I thought had to take a lot out of 6’2” Huff, but HC maintained a 2-4 point lead until we made 1 of 2 fts and gave North a chance to tie it with a 3 which they did. HC still had plenty of time to get off a shot to win the game and I would like to have seen a TO called to set up a play, but like many coaches do including a philosophy used by John Calapari Jones chose to let the players play and let Maddox try to win it. A drive to the rim didn’t go and we had OT on our hands and North had momentum clearly on their side and they seized on it and pulled out a huge win for them. Davidson is a tremendous player and Jervis is a pretty clutch little guy, North played very determined to get the win in OT, hats off to the Jags on the win and hats off to Coach Jones and the Black Bears for a pretty amazing 2 year run with these Harlan County kids………..

I didn't get to listen the game. So I appreciate the nice summary. Congrats to the Bears. They've had a great run with Trent , and now Maddox. I hope Maddox has a great college career. Been fun watching him display his talents.
