Frederick Douglass at Boyle County 11/01
#31
I've praised Frederick Douglass on this forum before, but Boyle is just too much. Right now, ironically, Boyle is on a Sherman-esque March to the Sea and there isn't a team that can stop them. Maybe FD pulls off the upset, but if they do it will be one of the biggest in KY football history and will make that evening's BGR threads can't-miss entertainment.

Quisenberry has only ran the ball 8 times in last 5 games. Lol!!

This made me laugh because it's so true. They never punt. Have the Rebs punted ANY this season?

I love the way this Boyle team just goes out and executes on both sides of the ball. Some criticize their #13 ranking but not me. They are well deserving of that spot.
First game against LCA they punted the ball.

Now, that's a bit of a stretch. In fact, a HUGE stretch. I think Boyle will win comfortably but there have been bigger upsets than this would be if it happens.

There have been bigger upsets, of course there have been. My point is a three loss FD beating nationally ranked Boyle would be a huge event.

I think there are a lot on here that would be mildly to moderately surprised if Douglass wins but very few who would be shocked out of their panties. Having said that, I think Boyle wins very comfortably and my panties are staying on.

I see what you mean OSH. I personally think it would be way more shocking, but I want to give respect to FD. They are a very good team, but Boyle is on a different level. I feel like you and I have been to our share of upsets, so I couldn't agree more that there have been plenty of better ones. Still, I think this would qualify as a heck of an upset that both programs would remember for decades.

I'm talking about in big games he has proven to keep the ball in Quisenberry hands, which isn't a bad thing, but Haddix needs to get the ball to other players so teams can't just worry about Quisenberry.

There are not many teams in Kentucky who wouldn't want Haddix as there coach right now. I think if I were at Boyle, I would be content to win another title. That would make it 5 in a row. With all the job openings on the horizon and from what I'm hearing, Id say his phone will be ringing off the hook with offers to come and coach. Now I don't say that because he is leaving, I think he will retire at Boyle myself. I just know what he brings to the table and his stock is going out the roof each and every year. I think of Haddix like Babe Ruth. He points in the outfield and calls his shot. He goes for homeruns and backs it up. Thats why Im a big Haddix fan, had no ideal about this guy till my boy played under him and now, I know alot about him. When you play under Haddix and then under someone else, you realize real fast what you don't have. The guy is smart and knows what kind of a offense and type of plays he wants to run. His system seems to be working and not many teams have been able to break the code. So I wouldn't change nothing myself. Of course, next year you may see a whole different system because he will again utilize his team to get the best out of them. You don't win championships by getting lucky. Those championships are made up of hard work and sacrifice. Early mornings and late evenings. My best advice for any kid or parent wanting more touches is go look at teams who allow politics to get involved and daddy ball starts to creep in. Just be thankful that you have a coach who will do whatever it takes to win mentality. Not a do whatever it takes to please the politics or daddy ball mentality.

First off Bull,  Congrats to your son for getting to learn football and life lessons,  from legend like Haddix.  That was no doubt a awesome and unforgettable experience!

I'm glad you posted what you did at the end there.  Politics and daddy ball have ruined a lot of sports programs.  Not just KY but all over the Country. Some programs can't even get off the ground because of it. I'm glad to hear that Haddix takes no part,  in those types of things.  That's bound to be a big reason,  his teams have the success year in and year out,  like they do.

You're right, Boyle is definitely on another level. It definitely would be a pretty good upset. I don't see this game being that close.

Boyle plays Saint X and Bowling Green next year. They gotta replace 8 starters on defense. Idk about that

actually I think Boyle’s streak was 47.

I don’t think the streak matters as much as titles.

from 99 to 2003 Boyle won 47 straight, and 5 straight titles.

From 09 to 10 they won 30 straight and two titles.

but this year and last may be their best teams.

Who is your coach? From the few games I’ve watched I think he spreads the ball around just fine.   Quissenberry has just played a qtr in most of the games since St Ed’s.  This comment reminds me of the game at Cracker Barrel. Where you left 4 tees in the board.

As most of you know I work for Boyle County Schools and I ask one of the staff this morning about Quisenberry’s injury and was told he’s at a 100% absolutely no problems or concerns, and for you posters who thinks Boyle’s offense is a one man show you obviously haven’t watched Boyle play much this year go to KHSAA and look at the team stats and you’ll see that the ball is shared equally with a lot of players on Boyle’s offense, if you think that you can key on Tavy and slow Boyle down you got another thing coming ?

When you double or triple team Quisenberry, Brown goes for 4 rushes/ 200 yards and 2 TD's. Pick your poison!

Frederick Douglas is standing on the tracks and the freight train is coming through!

At no point did I say it would be the biggest upset in history. I said it would be one of the biggest upsets and I stand by that, headshaking or not.

My comment seems to have caused some backlash, so allow me to rephrase.

6-3 Frederick Douglass defeating the nationally ranked fourteenth best team in the nation would be very shocking. Surely that can't be controversial?

I'll throw you a bone: it could happen. Go back through these threads and I have had nothing but respect for FD. They have great talent and a phenomenal coaching staff. If any team could put the brakes on Boyle's steamrolling, it would be FD. However, if they did it would be colossal. It would bring down one of the top teams in the nation while boosting FD's stock tremendously. If FD beats Boyle, the reactions from KY and across the nation (because it WILL receive national attention) will only prove my point.

My final comment to everyone who criticizes my opinion on this game's ramification is this: How long will they talk about this game if FD wins? This won't be a typical "strong team faces a pretty good opponent" game. If FD pulls off the win, then they are going to talk about it for a long, long time. Boyle won't talk, but they will remember it. That is what I mean by one of the biggest upsets; both sides will remember it for decades and nothing can convince me otherwise.

He's classy, but who has more class than Old School?  Look up class in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Old School.

Right now, ironically, Boyle is on a Sherman-esque March to the Sea and there isn't a team that can stop them. Maybe FD pulls off the upset, but if they do it will be one of the biggest in KY football history and will make that evening's BGR threads can't-miss entertainment.

Douglas beating someone in KY will never be the biggest upset in history... SMH

I completely understand what you mean here, and I agree with it.
