1) special teams were bad.  I’d hate to be the coach in charge of that
2) offensive play calling wasn’t good with loads of time wasted at the end of the game.  Almost like they quit.
3) penalties.  Too many men on the field multiple times
4) qb struggles with anything down field.  Our db was burnt multiple times and he couldn’t connect
5). Pass selection.  Seems like an is locked on one receiver coming out of huddle.  Threw into four or five man coverage.

Great win by our pirates but not too happy about some of the antics we displayed.  Coach Haywood may be losing it.  Teams of the past acted like we were supposed to win.  I saw multiple occasions of our boys acting up at the end of the game.  I know Pikeville wasn’t innocent but this game went to far.  We should act like a winning program and when we beat little brother like we did act like we have some class.  Yea I know I’ll catch some heat from the Pirate faithful but it is what it is.

And the coach who flipped the bird to the player shouldn’t have reacted to a kid.  The refs let this one get out of control.  Glad we came away injury free

Anthony being out did hurt but that’s an excuse like us complaining the Isaac Dixon didn’t play years ago.   Both teams should just move on.   Tired of the antics from the fans.  Social media has made a joke of this rivalry

You make some good points but lol at "little brother"
Pikeville has as many or more kids on the roster nowadays and Belfry just got their first win since September of 2018.
I don't think either is bigger I just think of Belfry as our country cousins.
I can agree with that.   Hope you can agree that two of your best players Friday night should have been in red and white.  lol.

I just know of one? But good to see Belfry fans are starting to take a dim view of switching schools lol

Speaking of Stanley, great player and hard to understand why he hasn't gotten touches all year,

Stanley, Hall and Warren all live in belfry/ Williamson.

Anthony played the entire game on defense. If he come out it wasn’t very much.

He had a great game.   Don’t know where he was second half of game?   Was he injured?

Special teams is part of the game and Belfry owned it. I think even Belfry fans were surprised by that if you watched the Pirates all year. Pikeville tends to not put their best players or even tacklers on punt team. Not sure why but I have watched them for years and it has been that way. Later in the year, they sometimes change punt and kickoff coverage and put their best defenders on those teams. I’m guessing they try to give some kids who don’t start some time on the field during regular season but it has hurt them in the past and it killed them Friday. Their punter is usually a good high school punter but also struggled Friday. Pikeville has to throw the ball. Every team is bringing 8 in the box and having their linebackers play downhill. Middle of the field is wide open. Screens, slants, and drags are there all day. They played that way against LCA and put up some big offensive numbers. They haven’t played that way any other game and numbers speak for themselves. I think Pikeville is still the best team in 1A when healthy but the gap is smaller and it will be a while before they are healthy. Belfry can win 3A. Their defense has to improve but they have enough to win it if they continue to get better. I think both end up at Kroger. Calling it now.

Stanley is the only transfer and  Williamson is in Mingo school district not Pike

Any idea why Pikeville is refusing to go with what worked at LCA? Do coaches feel they are more suited as a run team?   Who is the OC at Pikeville?

Let me rephrase it then.  Warren lives in West Virginia, hall lives in belfry and so does Stanley. So two of those mentioned should be in red and white and the other at Mingo Central but that has nothing to do with the game.  Sorry for bringing it up.   Just was saying two of those kids were brought up in the belfry system and were two of pikevillea better players Friday night

Impossible to know what coaches are thinking with this play calling One of two things:

1 They are either struggling to find an identity and being unsuccessful, or
2 They know exactly what they are doing and the fans won't see the real (and much more diverse) offense until the playoffs.

I'm fully on board with 2

For Pikeville’s sake I hope you are right but I don’t see it.  A passing offense requires rhythm and timing and it can’t be turned on and off so I’m assuming they are planning on just riding the back of Anthony when he gets back.

You are talking about guys who have won 4 out of last 5 state championships. They didn't suddenly forget what it takes

What I like to see is a pass that isn’t 25 yards to the sideline or 50 yards down field which Duty missed Hall on I believe they have forgotten the middle of the field and they think that’s only for the running game but even in the loss I thought Pikeville has some good things happen and Jet Stanley got hurt and it seem to happen a lot even at Belfry and the guy is right about the other 2 players also

Oh I don't know. Seemed like Isaiah Stanley had a good strong back to ride on Friday evening, especially in the first half. Some people seem to forget the injuries Pikeville is going through right now and it's not only Brenden Anthony that's injured. On a more positive note, can't forget Jayden Justice who is getting better every game. This being his first year starting as a RB, will just get better and better. Only a Sophomore. When Anthony, Caudill, and others are 100% again, it will make a difference when it's time to be at Kroger.

i went back and watched some of the game ..... into the 4th quarter and anthony has played every single snap on defense

he has also made tackles so whoever is keeping stats at pikeville must have done him dirty for some reason..... he had one solo tackle on an option play going towards bleachers and many other tackles

update
anthony was credited with 13 tackles what are we talking about

They had a new passing attack until they didn’t. Belfry won the game and that is what matters. But if you look at it, Pikeville’s offense and defense performed better. Offensive play calling for Pikeville, injuries, turnovers, and special teams won the game for Belfry. They had some good plays. The option hurt Pikeville when they had some guys out on defense and Belfry exploited that. That’s how it played out. I thought Belfry outcoached Pikeville by a comfortable margin Friday night. I would like to know the penalty yardage on both teams. I think time of possession second half is fairly lopsided.

Excuses, excuses, excuses!!
What was an excuse? I like both teams and have watched both all year. If you read other posts, I said I think Belfry is the better team this year and picked them to win. But, the game played out how I wrote. That isn’t excuses. That’s what happened. Look at the stats.  Stats don’t win ballgames but they do tell a story. Injuries and special teams are part of the game. Pikeville had 4 defensive starters on the sideline with injuries or cramping on a series. Belfry was right to take advantage of that. Belfry won. No excuses. Just how the game played out. If you watched the game and thought Belfry dominated, you watched something different than reality.
Belichick, you're right. If you just look at the rushing and passing stats posted on here, you would think Pikeville won. But, that punt return by "little" No. 7 was fun to watch. "It" (the punt return) was "put on" Pikeville. Those stats have to be taken into account also. Pikeville's skilled players looked big on TV. Belfry's skilled players looked small. Size won the battle, but bad snaps and punts (by Pikeville) and good punt and kick returns (by Belfry's little guys) helped Belfry win the war. Pikeville will win another state championship in 1A. It will be hard for Belfry to win another championship in 3A, but not impossible. Both teams need to improve.
Yes Clyde,   Both Caudills played well and aren’t forgotten. Two tough kids
Clyde????. No. 2, No. 7, No. 10, and No. 11 are all smaller than any of Pikeville's skilled players. The Caudill kid (No. 14) from Pikeville is tough, but he looks like one of the big ones. What's he got to do with my comment.

No 2 isn’t little.  Don’t know who you were watching.  Kid is compact.  Built.  True fullback.  Not little.  Only “little” kids were 7 and 10 who both play “big”.  Two of the toughest kids we have.   Don’t know what you are trying to say.  Sounds like you have a size complex.

Lol.  Was talking about both caudills for belfry, ace and Eli.   Wasn’t talking about 14 for Pikeville.
"Little" No. 2 was the toughest kid on the field. He took all those hits and never went down easy. I loved it...
I was small when I played, so I guess I could have a complex. I like Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, Cole Beasley, Cooper Kup, Barry Sanders and all the "little" guys who play in a big man's game and do good. No. 2 looked "little" on TV, but he didn't care to hit the big boys...lol

I am fully on board with the fact they have too many different people calling the plays. Been well known for years. Not a secret around the program. That’s why it looks like it does. Why would Pikeville lead the state in delay of game penalties? Does that make any sense? Players looking bad because a few adults struggle to check their ego at the door. There’s a bit of hard truth.

Very good player.  Definitely missed in Red and White.  Unfortunately, hearing that he has suffered another injury to his hand.  Hoping for the best.  He’s a nice young man

Yes he is and as much as I love football he is an excellent baseball player and I hope he is healthy by then no matter what happens in football.

Truth is our youth at PHS and BHS are so good, and from good families. Easy to root for both programs.

I had no idea and I have been a Pikeville fan for 100 years. Refuse to believe the HC would allow it. But even if you are even a little bit right it needs to be fixed or this year will be an epic fail. Your posts on here are usually spot on but this one scares me lol. You don't seem like a disgruntled family member in the least. HC needs to take control and call the plays himself maybe?

From my outsider's perspective, Pikeville's biggest problem is it's line. I saw a lot of comments following the Johnson Central about the loss being due to a lack of effort, but what I saw was the Panthers' offensive and defensive lines getting manhandled.

Pikeville's line is good enough to win another 1A title, but the early season struggles have been the inability of Pikeville's skill players to overcome it's line getting dominated. Duty is a good quarterback, but he looked like a catcher struggling to catch knuckleballs on a windy day against JC. He did a good job just avoiding getting sacked because of bad snaps.

I didn't see all of the Belfry game but I thought the Pirates line play was the difference in the game, although Pikeville was much more competitive than they were against Johnson Central. Pikeville did a much better job containing Varney than Johnson Central did.

^^^Pikeville has a lot of injuries and will be fine. Johnson Central will run the ball very well against everyone but their pass defense will get them beat. Look at Ashland game last year and even though JC won they were horrible against the pass. They might run for 350 yards against Corbin in a couple weeks and still lose because Elam might throw for 500.

Johnson Central's pass defense will be fine. They play a lot of young players who are getting valuable experience against some great quarterbacks. You're right about the chances of Elam picking them apart, but if JC takes care of the ball, Corbin's possessions will be very limited.

By playoff time Johnson Central's defense will have faced most of the top quarterbacks in eastern Kentucky. They are going to give up a lot of passing yards along the way, but I don't recall JC ever facing as many great QBs as they will this season.

With games against Elam, Tyson Sammons, Rhett Holbrook,  and LaBryant Strader remaining on the schedule, JC will have an experienced secondary entering the playoffs - and their offense may be good enough to run the table of remaining regular season games.

I love the schedule that JC has this season. I think it will prepare them very well for the post season, just as I believe the schedules that Pikeville and Belfry are playing will pay off in the playoffs.
