Belfry 2023
LOL
Are the football student athletes transferring to other schools because of “Coaching” , “Offensive/Defensive Scheme”, “better overall athletics” , “administration” what’s the real issue?

Wrong. Pikeville as good as Corbin last year who battled Boyle to the wire...
Yes that was last years Pikeville team. He’s referring to the 2023 team. Pikeville lost over half their starters off that team including Birchfield and the entire o line
Wrong. Two good starters from last season's line will return. Jay McNamee and Jackson Wilkerson. It doesn't sound like much in comparison to last season's line, but two things. These two have the size, experience, and excelled in their positions last season, and those coming behind them looked very good when subbing in certain games. Add to that, Pikeville always draw talent from the region due to its success on and off the field. So no. The entire line is not gone because of graduation or any other reason.
That can’t be true becaus I know for a fact Perez, the twins, and Thompson all started. That’s 4 right there. They lost their entire front 7 other than Anthony on defense.
YES it is TRUE. Jay McNamee rotated with one of the twins at center. McNamee also played the guard position as well (experience). Jackson Wilkerson got injured in the first game of the season with Corbin. The team was counting on him at his position. Came back before middle part of season and resumed his position throughout. (experience) Don't get too excited about the loss to graduation. I got a feeling this  season's team will surprise even you.

IT’s administration and coaching of other sports.

You don’t see just football players transferring. You specifically see basketball, girls and boys, and baseball players leaving.

I think that answers the question.

No.  From a football standpoint….you’re not gonna find better coaching than what the Belfry staff can provide.  Some may not like the ground and pound scheme….but it has won 8 state championships in 15 tries.

the real problem appears to be with the administration (principal) and the blatant disregard for the other sports in the building….basketball (boys and girls and baseball).  Apparently….coaching and approach are issues that are now not only impacting kids leaving for other schools for those sports…..but multi sport kids who also play football are leaving.   Which is directly damaging THE PROGRAM the school is known for (football).  Guessing some changes are in the offing.   And I would say sooner rather than later.

There will be no changes, at least none that matter and I was told this Monday night. You might see the basketball coaches flip jobs.

4 kids will decide over the dead period if no changes are made.

I will wager all bags of money jet pilot has talked about this past year no coaches flip flop and couple of them no more kids leave. JMO
The mystery surrounding the roster should be settled today. Players report today to get equipment.
a lot of the smoke was just smoke
two players left from what i understand could be wrong
Lots of smoke. Not as much fire. The Belfry core will be very good.
So Stanley to Pikeville or no?

Stanley leaving is a huge loss. Would have given Dre some rest at fullback and would have probably been the best player on the defensive side of the ball. Made a huge hit in the state championship. I think this move had nothing to do with football.

Stanley will be missed big time, but also in baseball in a big manner for the Pirates.

Going to look strange seeing that family wearing maroon at Haywood stadium on September 15

Going to look strange seeing that family wearing maroon at Haywood stadium on September 15. Agree on baseball. Belfry will be worse than Phelps in baseball. Graduated 5 good players and lost the best returning player.
Anyone else feel what’s going on with players leaving Belfry is eerily similar to what happened at Prestonsburg about 7-8 years ago. They lost nearly all their talent to either Paintsville, Pikeville, or JC and the program was a doormat for a few years and still haven’t recovered. Belfry’s won’t be that drastic cause they still have talent but it’s nowhere close to what it was the last 25 years.
Reading the tea leaves that is Facebook says more will be gone before this is all said and done.’
Wonder if any of them will be wearing a maroon shirt that says Hail Pikeville?????

No clue, I’ve asked and o have others.

I think 5 of their 6 best players left leave. Maybe all to Mingo.

If that happens Belfry could go 3-7. I’d really like hear the issues going on. I understand some of the kids who go back to Mingo but kids are leaving in every sport. This isn’t just a one sport problem. Another girls basketball player left to Pikeville today. Go read David and Darryl if you want to know. If they do leave we should know tomorrow. Practice officially begins tomorrow.

Oh man, that would be cool!
Stanley leaving is a bit of a shock to me. I know rumors were swirling but I had to see it for myself before I believed it. He did practice with Pikeville yesterday so it’s official. I understand the Mingo kids going back to Mingo with David but I can’t understand this move. Family are die hard pirates and dad played at Belfry and coached several of the past seasons at BMS. Anyone care to elaborate what is going so wrong at Belfry that kids no longer want to be a part of it.
You’ll get your answer next June. Supposedly the principal is retiring and they are getting rid of boys and girls basketball coach and baseball coach the day a new principal is named. At that point it’s too late

So is the principal who parents are most upset with? I know him but my kid had Rod Varney as principal
Dang, I'm a big fan of Coach Haywood. I hate seeing this happen.

Who will be the next principal is the main question. I've been told there are 4 in house with that certification and 2 of them are current assistants who apparently do not want it, another is near retirement as a teacher, and then one that is a younger guy. I would assume they will go after the younger guy who has years left and may stay there a while. Pike County has reputation of hiring those positions as in house hires. Likely the assistant principal Varney is the next football coach so I would say he wouldn't want that position. I have heard that there is a Belfry grad working as an assistant principal at another county high school, could he try and get it? Next June could be interested on Pond Creek depending on who is hired in the spot as principal.
