They work as hard or harder than many teams because of their small school size. They don't have the enrollment or the backing many schools do. KUDO's to the kids from Phelps.... they are great!!!!That was my whole point exactly!!! You need to read closer next time! Good luck Hornets!!!

How many kids go to Phelps? I was just wondering because they always talk about being a very small school. I know they are a small one, but I was just wondering is all.

Shelby Valley will be good, and aslo will be Pikeville, neither team will struggle and be like 10-20 at the end of the seasonn, valley will lose about 6 or 7 like Pikeville will

I can see Pikeville losing games early in the season but picking it up as the year goes on. It seems like they always do that where it takes them so long to get their football players back on the court and in basketball shape. Those Honaker boys, they are amazing slashers. They are strong enough that they are very tough to handle when they drive. Pikevilles sucess will depend on how quickly they can get back in the shape and have the level of play they have right now after their football season is over with.
Valley has some amazing guards as they normally do. I dont know about that Bryant boy who throws those wild elbows. I do not think that a 15th region ref in a high school game would allow him to do that and continue to play. I look for Valley to be very high in the rankings at the end of the season when it matters most.
Prestonsburg lost alot of seniors that had alot of minutes in varsity last year. The Patton boy can play when he wants to. It seems like he either plays very well or he is just there filling a spot. The 3 point shooter they have, I think I heard them say he is a Hall. He can flat shoot the lights out of it. If the get to where they can play as a team more, they will surprise alot of people.
Belfry is a very solid team. They have a great running game. They set up offense when the running game isnt there. They are a very well coached team. I see them being under-rated at the beginning of the year but gaining spots in the rankings each week.
Paintsville, they are Paintsville. They have a a boat load of talent. If BMR can get all the petty problems solved and they play team ball, then Paintsville will have to be back at the top of the list in anyones book.
I am very excited about this coming season. And I also think that the team that gets the ticket to Rupp will represent the region better than we have the last few years. I just hope that when this season is over, all fans of all 15th teams support whoever goes to the big show.

Allen Central only had 6 or 7 players who showed up. It will be very hard to evaluate them as a team. But from what I saw, they are still a scrappy team who will give their all in the games that I saw.
Pike Central after losing Brad Lowe will have to find someone to step up and lead the team. I think they could be a good team if the right chemistry is found.
Jenkins is a team of hustlers who, like Allen Central, will give their all in every game. I just dont see them having enough stallions in the stables to keep up with the bigger schools in the region.
Betsy Layne lost a lot of seniors as did many schools. I can see them making it to the regional tourney but as a runner up team, not the district winning team out of the 58th district.
East Ridge, I didnt get to see them play this summer even though I saw where they were in the summer camp. I cant respond to them at this time.

Do you want a total of 7th thru 12th or just the 9th thru 12th.... Basically.... this year's graduating class consisted of around 65 kids. Let me know and I can break it down...
Thanks for clarifying your earlier post... I do tend to be a little biased when it comes to these kids. I PERSONALLY know how hard these children work. I went there myself and I know what it feels like to be considered "underneath" everyone you play!!! I don't think any child (be it where ever they are from) should be made felt as if they aren't worthy.... I wasn't knockin your post though... Sorry if I offened ya with my reply.... Let me know and I can put some numbers up for ya!!!

I understand what ur saying about Pburg, they have unstoppable shooters and Patton who can be the best on the team or he could be the worst, as soon as he starts taking the games more serious he'll be a force..

From grades 9th through 12 there would be less than 300 students, is that about right? I really dont know....

Yep.... around or UNDER 300!!! They are a very small school. Tons of talent though. Great kids!!!

^ Edit on the above post:
I went and checked to make SURE and as for a TOTAL there was 437 in the entire school- 7th thru 12th.... so basically.... around 300 or less was correct....

I knew they was a small school, I used to work over there. I just didnt know it was that small. I was guessing in the area of 550 to 600 students.

If Prestonsburg can get Trevor Patton some practice time this summer, then the 15th will be in trouble. No, you don't have to havebig men to win this region, but if Prestonsburg can develop Trevor into a dominating center then this may be a year that you will need one. Trevor plays football so he will be gaining muscle, and he's around 6'6 or 6'7 so the size is there. If he can put these things together on the court then I think Prestonsburg will be able to dominate down low.

However, I watched all big men in the region this summer and it is very safe to say that none of them will "dominate". There are no dominant big men at the present time in the 15th.

I think Patton has give up football to only play basketball this year. So he can concentrate on improving his post moves and technique.

As far as everyone knows!! I sure hope so, it would be a big mistake if they ever have the regional tourney anywhere else again...ever!! Great place to watch a game and great atmosphere for the boys and girls tourneys this past year!!

Valley will be the team to beat in 06-07. E. Justice is the best point guard in the 15th and Bryant is right there with him. Hatfield and Newsome should be able to give them what they need inside. If these four get to play together they will be something to see. If you think they can't play with the big boys , you are very wrong.

Let's not put a target on their back so early.... Usually with young teams inconsistency is a big problem. With so many young players that will be heavily counted on, let's not proclaim Valley the regional champion for the next 4 years like the Paintsville fans did...
