Russell @ Raceland 8/27
#91
I can’t tell, but if the above post about Raceland’s holdbacks is written by “Westwood Eagle“, then I see why RamDad is laughing.

That’s my biggest problem with all of the transfers, recruiting, and holdbacks. Hypocrisy. Fairview was the king of all transfers a decade ago and it worked. They got to the state title game only to lose big to Mayfield. They messed up by letting an ineligible player play so the house of cards collapsed. Many schools have had their moment in the sun. It’s Raceland’s time now. They don’t have as many transfers as Fairview had (only ones I know of are Taylor from Ironton, Webb from Symmes Valley, Lundy from Russell, Lykins from Russell, and Farrow from Ashland - there may be more but Fairview had at least double that), but the Rams do have a few holdbacks. I say good for them that they managed to convince multiple kids and parents to hold back. The 15th region has done that for a long time.

Schools in our area have to watch it, though. Once the transfer train starts rolling, it can get out of control and run off the tracks, especially in a small area like ours where there’s a lot of pride and envy between schools.

I think it’s funny cause I wish we was this huge transfer school that these cry babies say we are. If we was I believe we would have a state championship or two by now haha. The problem is this…..football in the area sucks! We don’t have enough schools dedicated to having great football programs so when a kid comes through and sees he doesn’t have help on the team he plays for he just jumps to another program. It’s happened at Ironton for years. It’s happened at Assland. Now Russell is going through a huge step back because their numbers in JFL are gone. If Raceland was getting beat by 50 points by all the bigger schools around here you wouldn’t hear anything from anybody. Incase people haven’t noticed Raceland has built a new middle school, put new turf on the football field, the baseball program is trending up and the baseball field looks amazing. People notice these things. Stop crying cause Raceland has broke no rules

I didn’t really agree with the state creating the holdback rule but it is what it is and everyone in the state had the same opportunity so I see no real advantage there.  As far as transfers go, the problem is like you said we live in a small area with rivalries that are petty in the grand scheme of things.  If a parent thinks a school provides the best opportunities for their kids then I see no problem with transferring.  Go to an area with a larger population like Lex or NKY and you will find kids transferring all the time and other people just mind their business and go their own way. Unfortunately instead of being supportive many people in our area take it personally when people want to leave for better opportunities.

Fix your own problems instead of trying to start problems for other people. Gtfo here w that crap. Racelands transfers are all legit and by the rules. So are the holdbacks. Cry me a river and we will use them to build a bridge loo

Russell has been bleeding kids for more than a few years now. I remember not to long ago that they didnt even have a 7th or maybe it was an 8th grade team. Their JFL has been hit or miss outside of 1 particular group (the now 7th grade class). I am somewhat confused by Russells BOE and the decisions they make. They are sitting on a large chunk of money that they will not for whatever the reason, spend. They havw the money to update/upgrade their facilities, which has shown to breath new life into programs across the state. I just dont understand it.

The hypocrisy is selling a "We are family" bull$#!&", using parents and "born and bred" Raceland/Worthington kids to fund the program and the school and then stab them in the back come their junior and senior year by actively having staff and assistants recruit outside the program to replace them!! COVID holdback was one thing and was deserving across the state but don't forget that Raceland held back 10-12 kids for a couple years in a row! Not to make them more educated and to prepare them for the real world but for FOOTBALL!! LMAO! I personally know families that are very pissed within the Raceland School system from the impact that these "football holdbacks" problems caused as well as residents that refuse to support the school at all for this reason! So its not all Raceland people. Also blaming parents and administration not kids. Any school that's doing this or promoting transfers by the dozen has lost their way and has truly forgotten what school is actually intended for! Yes Fairview did get caught up in the bright lights by listening to the wrong people. Those people where also swiftly removed! That doesn't make it right for Raceland to do it also! Raceland is mostly worried about building a Football program rather than taking care of their own thats came through and supported their youth program!! The facts are in the roster while their hometown kids are on the bench!! LMFAO!!!! Forget building a bridge, heck with the money that somehow Raceland has acquired you should build a dome over the new turf field!!!! Us visiting fans would love to sit in the air conditioning as we watch some of the best players from every school play on the same field. LOL Just because its legal doesn't make it right to your kids that have came through the program from the bottom and now they sit and watch kids play in their jerseys from other schools!! If you are ok with that then either you don't have a kid thats went through a program or your a coach/staff that ONLY cares about winning a game. Hey, be proud!! You have collected many great athletes from different schools and held back enough kids to be bigger and stronger than most! You should win games! Get over yourself and take the criticism! You created the culture so now you must OWN it!  Curious as to who's in the "transfer portal" for next season??? ALL eyes on Raceland!!!  Wink

Moral lecture from someone who likely supported Fairview during the McPeek years. Classic.

Thank you EKU!! At least someone recognizes the MORALS involved!! Did not support Mcpeek due to exactly the same issues! Lifelong Fairview kids also sat and watched transfers play in their jerseys. But now we are who we are and Id much rather win or lose with kids that actually deserve to wear the jersey!

Typical "Ramdad" lmao! Try to push the subject off on something else. Im sure your kid or relative is a starter or maybe a transfer and not affected! MORALS, MORALS, MORALS! LOL I bet you don't have this conversation with the parents that supported the program through youth league, donated time and money to the program that now watch their kid not play or play very limited due to the "holdbacks' and "transfers". Fairview admin, coaches and or "starters parents" couldn't have the same conversation either. Definitely not envy. More like disgust!  Dislike
West Beagle...you know not of what you speak my friend. RAMDAD and myself are parents of kids that were directly affected by transfers and holdbacks. Our sons play ball together, Raceland families birn and bred. Both went from being two of the top baseball players in their class, to moving down the pecking order because of the transfers and hold backs. You know what we say? Work harder, push yourself, let the chips fall where they may. No one cares when you get into the real world if a company goes and finds someone better at your job and hires them and move you down the bench. I have another son that will likely be affected by holdbacks and transfers in the future. It is what it is. Hypocrisy? Thats laughable. 99% of those in orange that called Fairview out had no problem with legit transfers. Fact of the matter is 90% of our transfers come from neighboring county schools. Sure some moved over from Ironton amd one from Symmes Valley, but its all legit. We invest in everything we can at RWHS. Bass fishing and Wrestling teams were added as extra curriculars. We also began a media class as well. Not to mention the arts department is absolutely kicking some serious ass on the stage on a national level! Onward and upward. Hats off to you and yours for calling us out for investing in OUR kids, no matter how long they have been here. We have just as many, if not more transfers every year that never play a minute of sports. Keep digging bud. You will hit China eventually and that will just allow us to get some of their kids to!hahahaha

Nope ….I do t have a kid on the team. I issue with your argument is this. You supposed this though process where everything is fair…equal! It’s not!! It’s not that way in the real world. At the varsity level of any sport the best plays. They day of my little Jonny should play cause it’s fair are long gone. When these kids get into the real world is mommy and daddy gonna go to their boss and through a fit because they got fired? In the real world if someone is better then you at your job it’s time for you to move along. That’s the way it is! If you’re good enough to play then you will play. If you’re not….to bad. I had a kid that was effected by this and I agreed….the you he player that took her position was better so it was time for her to move on and she did. As far as your comments about parent’s being upset at Raceland….you are just trying to stir shit cause I haven’t heard anything out of the normal! That crap happens every year for as long as I can remember.

Again, typical "Ram" dad! However something that we agree on! The best on the team should play and others should work hard to try and EARN a spot. That hard work is generally rewarded with playing time. What you want to sell is that, put the time in, work hard buuuuttt... if we find someone better outside our system we will replace you!! That isn't how it is i the REAL WORLD! If it was you would be out of a job as well as myself. Most companies are loyal to employees that work hard daily and show up for work everyday unless you've done something to get fired. Not sure what line of work your in but Im glad im not in your occupation if your worried that your boss is always looking to replace you! Maybe you should ask a Raceland parent whose kid has been affected by this instead of assuming because you've not heard from them!! LMAO
Why do you guys keep responding to this jackass? Pot stirring is all it is. Good luck to your eagles when they play transferville in October.

He’s a new member….I don’t think he’s a westweed boy! I believe he’s a disgruntled Raceland parent.
I think he's a homegrown homer now as well. As mentioned before...my kid has personally been affected by it. I know each and every parent of a kid that has, they never said a word to me. We never even thought twice about it. Id rather my kid be apart of someing special than be a top dog on a consilation playoff team.

You are a fool if you think your company or any other company out in the real world is loyal to you. As soon as you stop making them money you will get the axe bub! Another thing…..you asked what would I say to the parents that’s supported the youth groups and donated money and time? Good for them. But if they did it in a effort to buy their kids playing time then that’s on them! If you back a program and give money or time you should do it for all the kids….not in the hopes that it gets your child playing time. For those who do that I say thanks but no thanks….we don’t want your kind here!
Amen RD. The JFL is a prime example of what our program has been building for years. We had over 120 kids sign up for 2nd-6th grade tackle football and cheerleading. That doesnt even include flag. Ive spent the last 15 years working in the JFL. My only goal was to leave it better for the next group, than it was when we started. We dont hang JFL banners. We are building to hang state titles. Thats the goal in all sports, academic team, yiu name it. Its the goal. If a kid can fortify that with his or her academic and atheletic ability, we want them in our school system.

So now someone with a different opinion than "Rams" are a "Jackass"? The only "kind" you want there is the "best athletes"!!! Just own it!! It is what it is and you should at least just be honest with everyone!! Always sidestepping the obvious!  LMAO I've also been through it once at another school as well! Definitely not at Raceland or am i a disgruntled Raceland parent. But what if I was? I'd love to stir the pot internally with that bunch!  What you guys are doing affects the entire area! Beating other teams with transfers from others schools or 19 year olds is what should happen!! Stack, the deck and keep telling yourself and your parents whatever sales pitch you need to so that you feel morally correct!! Russell beats Raceland by double digits if the two kids that transferred from Russell that you are preaching about stay at Russell !!!! LMAO By the way, if a kid and a parent give their heart and soul within a program for an entire career and they are put in the backseat due to several transfers that came to a school just to play "football" their junior or senior year and take that kids place without putting time in then that parent and kid have every right to be upset and you are the "jackass" if you think differently!! It wouldn't have anything to do with them "buying" playing time! Only a self-absorbed, self-centered person who believe its their way or the highway believes that!! Ill also definitely not get into a back in forth with RAMS that want to win at all cost. I'm sure there are many more coaches and parents in the area that agree with me than the few that agree with you!!
Cry me a river. I lived in Russell school district but I’m damn sure glad I went to Raceland instead. 5 minutes away from each other you all are acting like we are flying them in to play. Parents should be able to send their child where they see fit.

See now you just showed your football IQ …..which you have zero. If “those” two kids were still on Russell’s team the Rams still beat them. Go watch Russell’s line play! Fat slow and lazy! They blocked nobody. You can have three D1 all state running backs. If they are getting hit before they get the handoff it means nothing. What do those two kids have to do with negative rushing yards for the game ? I could understand your argument a little more if we had like 15 state championship and went undefeated every year but we don’t have one championship and I believe only two undefeated seasons in school history. You are miles off with your argument. If you’re that jealous of the Raceland family go get you some orange and hang with us for a couple weeks. Btw….you know how many kids on Racelands are complaining about playing time ??? That would be zero sir!! It’s funny the adults are the ones bitching about a child’s game but yet the children are having a blast

I agree.  Just as those parents from Coal Grove, Ironton, Huntington, Spring Valley, Boyd County, Ashland, and Charleston saw fit to send their kids to Fairview a decade ago.  Even with all that, they fell short in the title game.

Honestly, I’m all for what Raceland has done.  They haven’t gotten that many transfers and they somehow got a few classes to hold back a good number of football players.  It put them above the local schools like Russell and Ashland who either didn’t allow holdbacks or couldn’t convince the collective to do it.  To me, though, when you go all in like that, there’s only one definition of success, a state championship.  Pikeville, who gets transfers and usually has old players as well, is all that stands in the way.  I hope the Rams get it and get even more players next year. They deserve it with the facilities they’ve built.

As for whoever would have been playing for Raceland in the 5 spots where there are players who didn’t at least play middle school ball at Raceland, I agree with the others.  Tough luck.  Find some other sport or club you’re good at.  Success in football does not equate to success in life.

The only thing the hold backs did is level the playfield for Raceland when it comes to depth. On average the Rams would have anywhere from 6 to 10 seniors in any giving year. Now they are playing with the same amount of numbers that bigger schools are playing with in each class. Nevermind the hard work he kids and coaching staff puts in. Nevermind that most years Raceland can’t handle the depth of larger schools and crumble late in the fourth quarter. All people see is dominance from a poor small school that nobody cared about until they started losing to them….badly! Check your own programs. Spend less time worrying about what’s going on down the road and make your program better.

All this isn’t at you 16th haha

I’ve been around Raceland either as a student, athlete, or coach since I was in kindergarten and my mom, sister, and uncles went there as well. I’m as homegrown as you can get lol. In my time as a player I’ve had spots taken by transfers but never get bitter because they were just better than me. It happens. Over the years I’ve seen so many kids come and go but the one constant is the family atmosphere. For me football games are a great time to catch up with old friends that I’ve known my whole life and the slogan “this is home” is for real and not just a cheesy catchphrase. From the outside I can see how someone may get bitter but for those of us who have been around the inside of the program from a long time it makes total sense why people would want to come here. I’ve spoken with several people who have transferred and every one of them and their parents always say they were made to feel at home from day 1. That in my opinion is the big thing that makes people want to come to our school system.

Name the kids that weren’t getting playing time. We were subbing like a hockey line change against Russell. There were more kids getting PT than at any other time that I know of. Put your money where your mouth is and stop overloading your ass with your mouth. Depth is a great thing and we used it.
