I liked how he was used his freshman year. Short passes were dangerous. Still are and will always be. Not saying he can't throw longer passes but why throw down field every play when you can move the ball with the short passing game that sets up their running game as well. I would be working my passing plays to compliment Rice. Every team I know wants a good QB. Clay County has one. So, like you are saying you have to have 5 beasts up front, Clay has a couple that can beat anyone in front of them, but not 5. So that's where you keep the opposing defenses on their toes with the passing game. To me most of these teams overthink their teams to the point they are just one big struggle. I had rather be good at 3-5 plays and run them so well that the opposing team has a hard time stopping them rather than have a whole unused playbook that the team struggles running half the plays.

I agree too, like JC and Belfry it seems like most of the better teams are simple. Bell is the same way. From watching most games CC has done a pretty good job of keeping it simple from the way it looks.

 Clay could schedule Bell County, North and South Laurel and possibly Somerset or Whitley County on the schedule. Like to see some of those local teams get some matchups.

Bell would be a good game for clay but they might be a district opponent soon. South laurel would get beat 40 points by Pike central or magoffin So that would be a down grade in scheduling. From what I’ve seen, South wouldnt be a competitive game right now for Clay, 2nd quarter running clock would be likely. Clay was better than Somerset this past year. North and Bell would be solid competitive games but like the other guy said, Bell may be a district game soon.

That 2010 team was loaded with talent! Stepp done a great job there before that too. The Clay County program had taken a steep dive to a bottom 5 or 10 program state wide over the next decade and you can say what you want but over the last couple of seasons the players and coaches involved in Clay County have improved a football program as much as anybody has in our state.

For me, I don't like seeing Clay County any higher than 3A. I really hope when the redistricting happens, they get in with the 3A crowd. When Arnett inherited Clay they were in 5A and from then to now it's been a steady decline in enrollment. Stepp did an excellent job but looking back he too was in 3A. 3A is a perfect fit for Clay County IMO.

Looks like a good rivalry to me. Sizemore was a South Laurel Assistant Coach, I don't see this being a bad pickup game, South won't be down long. Somerset will be much improved than last year, most the state was better than Somerset but what for 1 year.

Going by those most recent scores Clay seems to be much improved!! Didn’t know they were that bad just a few years ago. Hadn’t really followed the program since the early 2000s

Rock played them until the last redistricting. Clay is 1 for the 21st century against the Rock. Not why they would be dodging the "Tiggers" .

Clay County basketball has a dominate record against everyone. That doesn't mean teams wouldn't line up to play them and crush them now. Your logic is broken. I think most teams just see rock not relevant anymore. Including their coaches.

That was also in the midst of what is probably one of the strongest generations of talent in Rockcastle County's history as well. Very good football, baseball, and basketball teams in the late 90's to mid 2000's. Would have to look it up to confirm, but there was a State Runner-Up in football, first trip to Rupp in memory in basketball followed by another trip or two where they were capable of winning a game and a run of four of five regional championships in baseball from 2000 to 2004. That's impressive for any school.

Clay Co had a losing record last season. Bell Co would have smoked them and Corbin would have beat them by 100 if they wanted to. North Laurel would have smacked them around as well, Somerset was down last year but prior to that would have put it on clay. The only sure win Clay would have gotten in the last few years from that group of teams would be South Laurel. With that said, I can assure you that nobody dodges Clay Co because they are worried about losing. They may dodge them so they don’t have to play at Clay Co because it’s always a home cooking shit show. Sorry not sorry, you all worked hard to earn that reputation.

If clay county can line out the defense I can see them winning 6-7 games. Their Skill players as a group are as good as any in the mountains. Should be a fun team to watch in the 7on7s.
