Pikeville vs. Paintsville (Class 1A Championship)
I predict a tight game with “PHS” coming out on top. Lol! Congrats to both teams on a stellar season!
PantherMaroon Wrote:KHSAA ruled today that Kash Daniels has one game of eligibility remaining and will play Friday against Pikeville. :flame:

The last time Pikeville was undefeated in 2014, Paintsville beat Pikeville. The next year Paintsville was undefeated and Pikeville beat them. But that is not going to happen this year, Pikeville in a close one 21 to 13.
He probably wouldn’t play to protect his future on the Bluegrass Championship Wresting Circuit.
2000PHS Wrote:You could create an All-Star team of Pikeville’s last 2 opponents and they couldn’t beat Williamsburg. We both hammered Williamsburg hard on here but at least on offense they could ball. I’m assuming you watched that game, they had some very good WRs and Ponder did Ponder things.

It may just be wishful thinking on my part but I feel that Paintsville is the best team Pikeville has played in a long time (this year) and that is going to help.

Haha you forget how you were raving about NCC that beat Beechwood at Beechwood? Then Holy Cross beat NCC? Also you must not be aware of what Pikeville D (and O) did to Ponder and Co. last year? Running clock 1 minute into second quarter? You will say that was last year and I will say yes Pikeville is better at this point this year than last.

You like to use words that I didn’t use... A lot. Raving? Beating Beechwood isn’t easy. They made it to the Final 4 playing similar competition to what you guys have faced this year and then went to Mayfield. Paintsville didn’t score a lot on Williamsburg last year but did hold them to 1 offensive touchdown so I am willing to admit that I was wrong about them and they had improved offensively by a considerable amount. However, whatever they gained on offense, they lost on defense because Paintsville just got into a power set and ran at will.
Panthers Dominate Wrote:And you never answered why if he lived in the backfield last game and didn’t have a sack or a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. He didn’t dominate last game and won’t this one!!

Must not watched the game or you are one of those people that only watch one player at a time with no knowledge of what’s going on elsewhere ....
And for you that don’t think #22 played very well against Pikeville in the first game, I hope you are all on the Panther coaching staff and don’t make any adjustments or game plan for him at all. You know it is okay to face really good players and acknowledge it.

You keep using the bad competition thing and it doesn't fly. Hazard beat Paintsville and played Somerset close throughout. HC beat NCC and won 11 games. So spare me the easier road. Pikeville is simply steamrolling teams.

And every good team Williamsburg faces gashes their defense. Paintsville went to the wire vs Wburg and Pikeville had a running clock on the same players a minute into the second quarter. Really that simple.

I'm done. I think Pikeville makes a believer out of you Friday.

You don’t believe HC and Hazard are good teams. Paintsville was a MASH unit going into Hazard and still had a chance to win.

I think since August I have said that Pikeville is the favorite. That has been consistent throughout the year. I just think that their schedule (since Belfry) may have some a little over hyped about their true identity. Which right now is better than 2015,2018 in some people’s eyes. That’s a lot of confidence. I went back and watched the 1st game. Paintsville is a completely different team. Offense is totally different. Pikeville may have and probably did hold some new stuff because they haven’t needed to show it but for the most part they haven’t changed, just gotten much smoother at execution.

You can talk about 2018 Williamsburg all you want. I’ll just reference 2019 Pikeville/Paintsville game that was decided by 1 point and a missed 23 yard FG. We CAN match up with Pikeville, not saying we will on Friday, but we CAN. I’m sorry if that tarnishes or offends the Mighty Panthers.
I also completely expect #28 to have a “package” or set number of plays designed for him. Similar to 2015 and when Pikeville went to the I formation to seal games.

Now look who's putting words into people's mouths haha...I seriously doubt anyone is tarnished or offended. You can go watch the first game until the cows come home and we can all spout our opinions on here, luckily for us all none of it matters - it will all be settled by the guys on the field Friday.
You say you were a mash unit at Hazard. Aren’t you similar to that now with Ray and the young Phelps out or was a lot more players not playing in that game??? It has to hurt them some losing 2 of their top 11 players with a small roster. Pikeville wasn’t healthy in the first matchup and had a young Qb in his first game on the road also. I look for this to be a good game that could go either way just hope for a injury free game for both teams.

What I can’t figure out about you guys it could have been more than 1 if 28 would have went on to the end zone but he did the smart thing and went down. But Paintsville did not score in the 2nd half and really only had the long run by the quarterback in the whole half. Now go back and watch the film and tell me I am lying. Like I said before and I will say again this is going to be a good game and have never said it wouldn’t be and yes Pikeville has got better and yes Paintsville has, too. But some of you guys like they are more improved than anybody else and I have heard that about the best player on the field (and he is a very good player) but one player don’t make a team. So Pikeville will come with their team and you guys come with the best player and we will let them settle on the field. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

My completely different team comment was talking about our style of offense. We were 4 and 5 wide alimony exclusively in the first matchup and now we have transitioned to a power running team.

Most of you Pikeville people have said you expect a hard fought game. However, your loudest supporter probably does not share that opinion.

We started a freshman QB at Hazard- making his first ever start and Allen was out of the game early with an ankle. Losing anybody in class A football hurts but your starting QB and best overall player was too much to overcome against Hazard.

Patriot, you do realize that Pikeville only scored 3 points in the second half? Paintsville was inside the 5 yard line and inside the 25 yard line and Pikeville’s defense did what champions do, stopped us. All I’m saying is that Paintsville can make this a game.

You have transitioned to a power run, I agree. But there’s little to no threat of a passing game, which enables good teams to cover 1-1 and load box vs run. Being one dimensional can hurt. Let’s be honest here, your toughest game in the past 3 games was against Williamsburg. You had 53 rushes for 345 yards and 2-8 passing for 24 yards and barely escaped. That has to be a real concern. Pikeville’s balance in passing and rushing allows them to open the playbook a little more. I’m not saying it guarantees a victory by Pikeville but it definitely gives them more options.
Paintsville 20-7

But it could have been at least 9 and 10 if they make the extra point. I don’t believe that Paintsville can make it a game but I do believe it will be a game don’t think it’s going to be any can to it. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

#28 did what was right. Yes, that was the classy thing to do also. That would've been a 15-8 ballgame...xtra point 16-8. But he didn't and I for one , proud of this young man. Btw, if Paintsville's line dominated the whole game, then where is more than 8 points ? When it comes down to it Friday, what your going to see in comparing both lines is PIKEVILLE- Strength, power, athleticism, speed, technique. Paintsville- BIG. Pikeville wins this one, once again.

I have no doubt that’s what you will say. That’s all you have said so far, that’s not possible. Pikeville is the only team thats gotten better from last years williamsburg game. Funny how the more games Pikeville has played the better they’ve gotten. If other programs could just figure out how Pikeville does it.
I have a question for the Pikeville faithful. Do you guys switch out the scoreboards in your home games? I was watching some of the highlight tapes on YouTube and I noticed some games had a scoreboard that had the team names in lights and in other games a traditional scoreboard with the team names in print was used.

Old scoreboard was on its last leg. Didn’t even work the Raceland game. Had all kinds of problems this year.

The city was able to get a new one installed before the Region Championship.

I think you missed the pic of a new scoreboard being put up a few weeks ago Blaze. Both very similar in looks and had Community Trust Bank as sponsor. The old one had some electrical problems.

My bad Thunder. Didn't know anyone had responded.

Gotcha! When I was watching the videos I was thinking surely you guys didn’t swap them out every game lol.

Lol ! Not hardly. Not cost effective and too labor intensive:biggrin:

And IF Paintsville made a FG from 23 yards they aren’t throwing and taking a knee that last drive.
After watching the recent highlights of Pikeville and seeing Paintsville play Raceland twice I think Pikeville has an advantage in overall athleticism. Paintsville has some big strong guys but across the board Pikeville looks like they are much faster and they have the size to match up with Tigers. I think the combination of speed and strength will give Pikeville the edge in this game and I wouldn’t be surprised if they won by a few scores.

Pikeville 35
Paintsville 15
