Doss vs Corbin
#31
Corbin is the armpit of the 13th region. A lot of ignorant, uneducated people there making the rest of the region look bad.

You may want to go back and check the stats on that.:eyeroll:

They(not the entire fan base, but unfortunately more than the average fan base) are jealous of anyone else who has any success, which is something they need to get over.

Jealousy sparked all this? You are a genius.

Most animosity directed towards Corbin comes from the fact that any of those things you listed would never happen if they had to do like every other school, and play with kids only in their school district. Heck, most of the basketball team should be playing at other schools. Lol. Couldn't care any less personally, but that's where the animosity/hatred or whatever comes from.

Tops in the region for making statewide news for racial incidents too (basketball and yearbook staff in about a six month period). You forgot that one. I think that might be more of the reason for some of the animosity than girl's soccer or volleyball.

I believe the boys golf team won the region as well this fall and the Redhound Chef's team was state runner-up while the bowling teams also had great seasons. The tennis teams have won the region virtually every year for the past 15 years too. I think the swimming team may have won the region last spring as well.

When you have a lot of success, there will always be people trying to tear you down and make excuses why they don't have success.

Same reason so many people hate the Patriots, Alabama. You eventually just learn to embrace it and keep whipping everyone close to you in sports. You either get better or make excuses. Keep making excuses.

Every school has kids that are from "outside their district". You can name any school in the tri-county area and I can name specific players in specific sports that live outside their district. For most I can name kids that live in Corbin's district. Does Corbin get some kids? Yep. It's the 13th region, kids transfer all the time. Nobody cares when a star basketball player from Williamsburg transfers to south Laurel for his senior year, or a linebacker who came up through the Corbin system is Lynn camps third leading tackler though. Those schools don't make a big deal about it, and their not fueled by jealousy. They want what is best for the kids. The true reason everybody in this area hates Corbin though is because Corbin ended most of their careers in one sport or another. Knox is specifically fueled by Corbin jealousy. "They hate us cause they ain't us."

Knox’s best basketball player played at Barbourville his freshman year. Lynn camp’s best player is from Williamsburg. People only care when they play for winning teams.

Maybe P can see if Jellico is available and hope the bridges don't "freeze" over LOL

From what I understand about the video, he was making fun of the Knox Central fans, which he shouldn't be doing, and had nothing to do race. It was just all blown up by outside people and a couple of relatives on each side.

Some people need to grow up and get a life, or at least a job so they don't have so much time to spend on here trying to stir up trouble.

I'm just saying that Corbin (in general)..not just the school, sports programs, etc., is viewed by many, including minorities that I have spoken with, to be ignorant racists. Now, can you have successful sports programs and be ignorant racists? Apparently so!!

Which, of course, no mention of this young man's use of the N word to Knox Central players and/or the point guard from South Laurel last year.

But the Instagram video was all in good fun, and we need to quit causing so much mischief.

I’m glad you commented and opened your mouth so any doubts of you being ignorant were immediately erased by your statements! It’s either “Corbin is racist and everyone hates them” or “Corbin gets people from other districts” I if the town and school is so bad like you say, I wonder why so many people from out of district choose to send their kids there?

The Corbin of 1990 is not the Corbin of 2018. A lot can change in 28 years. I don't disagree that this town has the reputation as a racist town, I'm not even gonna say that it didn't earn and deserve that reputation. I will say that Corbin today is not a racist town, no matter what the folks from barbourville "think". Also, Corbin doesn't just achieve success in sports they create successful young adults. Highest average act score in the area. Highest number of kids that are college and career ready in the area. All this while the state had to go into Knox central. Are there bad apples here and there? Yes. Just like there are bad apples everywhere.
#53
Guys let them say what they must say, I have learnt you can’t win a debat with a rock. If that is how people choose to view us then it is there loss, as a whole I feel Corbin is not racist, we don’t recruit but the door is open and if a kid wants to attend come on down we would love to have them. Kids wouldn’t be open and willing to attend other schools if the grass was greener where they are at. Is winning important at Corbin yes, why wouldn’t it be it should be everywhere. The difference with Corbin and some others our coaches, teachers, fans and administration truly care about each and every kid and there success on and off the field or classroom. The parents truly go above and beyond for every kid whether it be star or water boy they are embraced and cared for as if it was there own because they are Redhound family. This speaks volumes about our community and we would love for anyone to come be part of it and hopefully that will change some opinions of us.

How many African American students attend Corbin Ind schools?

Legit question: when did the first black kid attend Corbin High School (and stay longer than a week or two... as I've heard people who attended Corbin High talk about how they would try to see how quick they could get them to leave for daring try come... in the 2000's).

2018 Corbin may be better than 1990's Corbin, but 1990's Corbin is basically Civil Rights Era for most other places... kind of a "nicest guy in prison" or "most sane person in the insane asylum" there.
#56
I know for a fact that African American students went to Corbin for all four years of high school in the early 2000's. There may have been more before that I honestly don't know. There were always students of other races at Corbin before that.

As far as the "nicest guy in prison" comment. Nobody can change the past, but I've lived in a lot of different places and Corbin today is no more racist than London, barbourville, or Williamsburg. It's as simple as that.
#57
All the schools in the 13th region should drop Corbin. Having to travel 200 or 300 miles for games, the administration will fix the problem real quick.

Also, 1990's Corbin is not civil rights era. It was bad, but people forget just how bad racial tensions were then. I mean, 1991 was when the Rodney King beating took place. The early 1990's were also when the rash of black church fires took place. Racism was a big problem all over the country during that time. I personally thank god that we as a nation and community have managed to make progress since then.

They've both at least live in their respective school district.

Now that I think about it, Corbin is the only school in the region that doesn't have black athletes or at least had black athletes in recent history. That really speaks volumes about the culture there.
