For, it is now the Ads chasing us. Last I checked the Cards have 12 state titles and the Ads have 10.

missthefield Wrote:Guys, Mayfield and Caldwell games need to be thrown out the door as far as comparing that game for any other team to prepare for either team. I see other posters always making some kind of comparison, this game is never good for that. Caldwell County is a better team than what they showed against Mayfield, history shows that. When Crittenden played Mayfield for several years the score was always respectable, while Caldwell always beat Crittenden worse than Mayfield did most of the time. Different teams play other teams better than others, I don't know why but they do. Catholic and Mayfield should be a good game, but I wouldn't want to be Catholic going to Mayfield, even when they don't play well they win, they don't have the Caldwell county mystery going when they play anybody. Not that it matters, but I'm a stat junkie, so curiousity got the best of me. It's false to say Crittenden gave Mayfield a better game than Caldwell most years. I looked up every year that Crittenden played both Mayfield, and Caldwell, and Mayfield beat Crittenden more handily more times, it wasnt by a wide margin, but still the numbers favored Mayfield. Even if the number where in Caldwells favor why does it have to be Caldwell that is better than they show against Mayfield. A case could be made the other way around that Crittenden is better than they perform vs Caldwell. Heck Caldwell beat Crittenden in 85, and only won 3 games that year while Crittenden won a state Championship the same year.

We hear this same talk from Graves fans every year. They are always better than they played against Mayfield. Their team always gets much improved after they get done with the Battle of the Birds. Wouldn't it be just as easy to say, dang that team is good and we are glad to see what we need to work on moving forward? What would the Tiger faithful say if we got on here immediately after the 2013 game and told everyone that we just played bad and gave them no credit for playing better.

Kracken Wrote:CS, what was it like playing with JJ. I still say he's the best hs player I have ever seen. To avoid getting the natives restless I have to caveat that statement with this, I'm new to this party and wasn't here for any of the Parrot or Bright years.
It was a lot of fun watching him take over games... the only part I didn't like, was him swooping in out of nowhere and tackling the guy that i was about to hit... i cant tell you how many time I completely whiffed because the guy disappeared from in front of me... only to find JJ laying on top of him.
Lets try to get back on the topic of OCATH and Mayfield..
Time Will Tell, what about this year's OCath team is going to cause problems for Mayfield? After watching 4 games of OCATh film, i only see one player that would have caused us a little problems (#11)... but we would just put our best corner on him and shut y'all down.... so I'm curious as to what aspect of OCATH's game that is going to difficult for Mayfield to handle.

Maybe the same rule does apply to Crittenden, I said some teams play better against different teams than others do, didn't I. As for not giving Mayfield credit, when did I never give Mayfield credit, tell me, where did you get that. Also in 85 Caldwell beat Mayfield too while only winning 3 games and they were state champs that year and I heard Mayfield fans say it was because it rained. All I'm saying is I've watched Cadlwell and Mayfield since Robert Mayfield played for Mayfield and Mayfield has had the better team most of the times, but Caldwell for some reason doesn't play Mayfield like they do every other opponent most of the time. I'm not saying they would have or should have won a lot of those games but I am saying they shouldn't have gotten beat as bad as they did in a lot of them, if you seem most of the games you would know. The series is something like 45 to 10 in Mayfields favor but they are not 40 points better when they win most of the time. Losing while playing well is acceptable, but quitting when you get down by 20 isn't. Mayfield has a great program and has been the best in western Kentucky for a long time.

Is #11 the kid that cost MF a state championship last year by standing there and getting knocked out?

You go a ways back if you seen Robert Mayfield play. Got to bust your chops alittle, but you make some good points. I think I may know who you are.

Not sure that it cost them the state championship....(I'm a huge MF fan, but i think CAL still would have beaten us)... but he might have been, IDK, but I was sitting on the OCATH side right in front of the hit and he definitely, 100%, positively, certainly, and whatever other words that go with those... hit him in the shoulder and slid up... a clean and legal hit that made me want to strap up the chin strap again.

The sad part is that was a terrible call to eject Arnett last year, but it wasn't even close to the worst call of that game. The worst one was when they called a block in the back on my own boy, after he got hit from behind and fell forward striking a OC player in the back side of his calf. What made it even worse was the fact that this was on a punt. The ball died at OC's 40 and they took it back to our 40 and then marked off 15 yards for the block in the back. That turned out to be a 35 yard penalty instead of 15. How does those things happen by a crew that is supposed to be so good that they get a semi final game?

By the way CS, I really was proud of all those teams you were on. But, by far the best team since 2002, has been 2010. I would say that the 3 undefeated MHS state champs would all be able to claim they were the best team in Mayfield history.

The sad thing those referees were the same refs in Mayfield in 2015. Mayfield fans said it was home cooking in 2016. I thought all football fans knew these refs come from different regions.
Regardless the same crew that did the game in Mayfield in 2015 was the same group in 2016 in Owensboro. I donât remember mayfield complaining in 2015.
The worst call of the night and there is no denying. I even had Mayfield fans from another site agree with me on this. Was the catch Bright had out of bounds. That was the worst call of the night

Mayfield is a measuring stick for s lot of teams. Been on the wrong end of that stick a couple of times. Mayfield wins and advances to play one of the beast from Louisville. Until they get past that one no need to worry about Danville

The pass interference call on MF when the OC kid tripped over himself without another player near him was the third worst call of the game. 55's call above was second. The worst call from that game came the following Monday when the KHSAA decided to enforce a rule that isn't even a rule. They admitted at their meetings this year that it's not a rule and has never been a rule in HS football. Whole thing was a disgraceful sham.

Worst call was not having enough relish in the concessions. Just kidding I agree with Kracken, cause I just knew Kincer would be cleared to play on appeal, I was shocked when I found out that Julian Hackett basically admitted it was wrong call but upheld it anyways. I'll never have respect for than man again. I immediately got sick to my stomach and had a feeling Mayfield was in trouble the next week.
