Belfry -55 Pikeville-13 Final
#31
EKUAlum05 Wrote:I mentioned this earlier but it may sound crazy but I actually think the Pikeville OLine looked about as good as it has all year. They created a positive surge at times for Charles and for the most part kept Battaile from getting hit hard on his throws.

Pikeville looked good in Special Teams. Sloan had 30 yard returns several times and the returns were well blocked. The kick coverage was good and disciplined and even when Hunter set up a return that he trying to bounce outside they didn't let him break it for a super long return. All signs of being well coached and frankly positive signs for a 1A team in a class that special teams typically are abysmal.

Battaile struggled throwing because there simply wasn't open players or any YAC, and he often was having to move out of the pocket. With that said he made two beautiful high level plays. He threw a perfect slant pattern to Sloan I think for like 15 yards that probably goes for six against any 1A team they would have played. The other play was the one he extended with his feet, reset, and led his receiver on a 4th Down for a big gain inside the redzone. There are only a handful of QB's in KY that can make that play.

Charles was a gamer and played very well. Loved his running on that one scoring drive. They at least forced Haywood to take a timeout to light into his kids.

Where is Rhodes? He hurt?
Severely sprained ankle two weeks ago. Just got the boot off and should be good to go soon.

Getting out Healthy against this Belfry bunch - Is a win in my book. #5 for Belfry is Beast running the ball . . . #10 - runs hard TALENT TALENT TALENT
We all know about their line - So I think considering the Pikeville boys did well at times keeping Wyatt from take too many hits on those throws.

I was irate about the late hit on Wyatt in the end zone when it appeared he was way in the end zone and even slowing down - watched the replay of that online and - I think it was probably honest mistake on Belfry's players part - Hillard Howard Field needs Paint in the endzone - and that late hit prolly wouldn't happen - all that green and just white lines - prolly lose track where you are in the heat of the game .

Good Luck to Pirates the rest of year! (i dont think they gonna need any luck they got the talent)

Pikeville vs Hazard in a couple weeks should be a good matchup!

Totally agree.

You can tell on the video that Hunter clearly had no clue where he was in proximity on the field and when he and Varney saw him splitting the gap I think they both reacted out of instincts.

You have to think those guys arent used to seeing someone running in the secondary on them

I talked to Devin about the late hit he said our endzone and most of the rest is a different colors and Pikeville's is the same color as the rest of the field so he didn't know where he was

Yeah it's def. hard to tell sometimes - As a fan in the stands sometimes gotta watch the ref on those close ones. Def. need some other color end zones on the field - Ide say where UPIKE shares the field -Is why they left it plain. But my 2 cents (as if it mattered) lol - make one end zone UPIKE make the other PIKEVILLE - or some kinda generic design - I think we got one of the first and oldest turf fields in these parts - like to see it updated. But baseball shares it as well so got a lot of ground to cover ....

We commented on the radio and my wife even mentioned it this morning about the sportsmanship on each side. A lot of helping each other up and helmet pats etc.

Yes all these kids know each other for the most part.... - and I always see the other supporting the other's teams after this game is over - and wanting to bring State Championships back to Pike County. In 1A and 3A - here's to them both doing it again!

Big Five-0- Wrote:That's what I like about this Pikeville team. They don't give up, and just keep on playing. They've been in a couple of situations this season, but never gave up. If anyone has never seen Belfry play this season, then you really don't know how good they are. Don't think they would have any problem running 6 or 7 variations of the option per game. Big, (understatement), fast, strong, and talented. After seeing them play, i'd put them up against any football team statewide.....regardless of class.
You could put a 1A All-Star team together and they couldn't get within 2 TDs of Belfry....They are just THAT good!

My only problem with that (not saying he is lying) is that they both had to avoid the goal post to hit him. Have a very hard time not seeing the goal post. But the worst part is both took shots at the helmet area of someone running upright. No call for that. It LOOKS like headhunting. But don't take it for me saying no class or anything, I'm not accusing them of that.

First Wyatt and Varney are buddies and second of all there's nobody who really cares what you think Smile

Avoid the goal post. Since when did Belfry d backs line up behind the goal post. Dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Both hits were chest high good solid hits just awfully late which has already been well documented. I sat right beside the TV crew and watched an immediate replay. You are acting like a penalty was not called. It was a properly called penalty. Nothing more, nothing less. Let me check my grammar and proper punctuation before I post this so no one misunderstands my meaning.

Always a remark from a PHS fan that makes more than that person look bad. I can still recall the butt hurt when a Belfry freshman scored on them a few years back on a 4th down on a simple dive play. SMH.

I said it LOOKED like headhunting. I specifically said not accusing anyone of it, and I was simply pointing out why some would think it was a cheap shot. Go pound sand, dude. I'm allowed the same option for speaking my piece you all are. Goodness.

He turned his shoulders at the last second to avoid the post. I was literally 20 yards from the play, man. Didn't say it was intentional. Wyatt was hit dead even with the back line of the endzone almost.

As I've said on other posts, I really wish the Pirates best of luck the rest of the season. Truly. Was simply pointing out MY viewpoint and why some could perceive it as a cheap shot. That's all. Good luck against Knoxville Catholic.

I never once acted like a penalty wasn't called, I POINTED OUT A VIEWPOINT. Y'all need to chill. And I could care less about your punctuation, grammar, or spelling.

Trying to get a rise out of jetpilot, who has been mysteriously quiet this week, but to no avail I guess.

That's funny Pikeville moved the ball haha, then anytime Belfry put starting D line in they stopped them. Any time Belfry wanted to buckle down they stopped them except one play.

Having watched football in Eastern KY for 20 plus years, this is the best Belfry team I have ever seen! No chance for any team in 3A! Their O-Line is just ridiculous and they have some of the most skilled runners. If they don't turn the ball over they can compete with anybody in the state.
