Need to continue having the kinds of classes we are right now, very good for depth and allows greater rotation and development. Several JV games scheduled too I believe.

Panthers will be a handful this year for whoever they play!

Was looking at the schedule this year, pretty sure what to expect for the most part from most of these teams, biggest question mark I see in terms of knowing nothing about the team is Lucasville Valley from Ohio. I see they've played Raceland and Fairview in the past, anyone on here can give us an idea about them?

Valley lost the house last year, but are year in and year out one of the contenders in their region. I would put them along the same lines of an Ashland. Even on a "down year" for them they are a quality opponent. We (Raceland) played them last year and had them on the ropes at their place, great facility, great atmosphere, and a classy program from the HC to the water boys and fan base. We play them again, only its at our place, this year. Usually big and mobile upfront and atheletic at the skill position.

It can only help Pikeville get better for the playoffs if they are that quality of an opponent. The classifications in some other states confuses me sometimes. Would their class be comparable to a 2A in Ky? Or are you referring to numbers/scheme/talent with the Ashland comparison? Pikeville will have about 55 on the roster this year.

I believe they would be the equivalent of a 2A school. Last year they had a pretty tough team but as Scotty said I think they lost a lot. They had some really good athletes and some decent size up front. As far as their scheme goes, they ran a spread and threw the ball a lot last year. It was a good environment and their fans are passionate about football. From what I have heard it is a hard place to win at and when we played them last year I believe they had a 20+ game home winning streak which was broken a few weeks after we played them.

Pikeville is in a tough spot. Anything other than Bowling Green will be perceived as a failure

I don't think that will be the case. All I've heard is people (outside of Pikeville) talking about who is gonna replace Pugh. Pugh was a beast, no doubt about it, but he wasn't the only Senior on that team. Charles and Jarrell were huge playmakers, not to mention a couple 4 year starters on the line. I myself am on the outside looking in, but Pikeville does have more than one hole to fill. I'm sure they will have another outstanding RB step up, like always, but to say if they don't make it back to Bowling Green their season will be a failure, I don't buy that. Paintsville and Raceland both have a lot of guys returning. Any 3 of these teams could end up in Bowling Green.

I agree. You got to throw Hazard in that categorry as well because they return more than both Paintsville and Raceland... Pikeville will expect to repeat and they should have high hopes with a big junior class returning and a good experience QB back.

Tough spot? It's a great spot, wouldn't have it any other way!

Don't think so. I'm sure this Panther team has a goal set, but not a tough spot. A lot of football teams would like to be in their '' tough spot.''

Really don't know how long it's been since I've seen this many on Pikeville's roster. Good to see the commitment and interest in PHS football.

East is a four headed monster, Pikeville, Paintsville, Hazard and Raceland with the Panthers being the favorite until someone proved otherwise.

If Pikeville has a 55 man roster then those are the kinds of numbers that will allow a 1A program to sustain a high level of success for a while.
Things are really looking nice for the Panthers!
Did Bataille do any recruiting camps this summer? How did he perform? He looks every bit as good as Tanner Morgan did at this point in his career and Morgan became a D1 player.

I don't know any results from it. Someone else may have better info on that. Definitely looks like he's added some good muscle for his frame. May have even grew an inch or so too.

Roster will definitely be in the neighborhood of 55 once all is said and done with attrition from first couple weeks of practice (that's pretty normal everywhere, get one or two who quit), beginning of school registration, etc.

Word is that the wavier wire has been good to the Panthers the last couple of days. Depth on the line on both sides of the ball should be takin care of!!!!!!!! And the skill players will get a huge boost also.

Not trying to take anything away from Pugh but number #15 I can't remember
his name was a playmaker on bothsides of the ball he will be hard to replace
for the panthers
