Belfry @ Pikeville 9/19
Pikeville will play hard and lose. BIG
jetpilot Wrote:Yes, the foam is starting to trickle down both sides of Belfry fans' mouths, and it's only Monday.

Pikeville 28, Belfry 12

No wait, that's ACT scores. Will give a football prediction later. Or not.:moon::biggrin:

Confusednicker:

The reason the fans are foaming at the mouth is because they know its one time of the year that the JV and freshman get alot of playing time. Just excitement to get to see their kids score and play against a varsity team. Confusedhh:Confusednicker:

All we need is commentary from a Williamsburg turd whose whole schedule couldn't put a combined team together and walk onto the field to face Belfry.

:thatsfunn I laughed out loud on that one!
I think I'll be about done with this thread, but I will say I think Pikeville is a #3 or #4 team in 1A... and that's with Williamsburg ahead of them which I think will be a dandy of a ballgame. This year, Belfry is a top 15 team in the state of Kentucky in my opinion. Even though Southwestern, Harlan County, and Henry Clay weren't the class of their class, all 3 teams never really got close. Unfortunately, I think an average Belfry team like 2009, 2010, heck maybe even early 2012, this Pikeville bunch would give a great game. This team I think is just too big, too strong, too deep, and too fast. Pikeville coasts from here, though. When I suspect we'll be hosting Bourbon, I'll have Twitter ready to keep up with the Panthers vs. Williamsburg.
Also, Jetpilot is one of my favorite members of this site. Dude can troll and joke but he's also for real and pretty cool.

Now to your reply to my post.
Yes I do know the Pike County is the largest county (LITTLE) in the state and yes I know Pike County has more millionaires per capita in the entire USA (POOR). The one downfall to typing on here is words don't always express what you are trying to say.

You think I used the words POOR and LITLE together by chance when I was describing Pike County.....???

You don't think that maybe, just maybe I used those words together on purpose????

How many other counties besides Jefferson can say they have two schools with three different state football championships and a state basketball championship?

You're welcome (I think...lol) !!

MY point, which you seemed to miss, was all those championships happen, in part, for a reason. And that reason is the deep financial backing of both these schools. (And no, it isn't "unfair" that financial support is uneven across Pike Co. because it comes from alumni and coal, usually alumni IN coal, and they can spend money where they wish. Just wanted to cut off whining by the other county schools in how they don't get the same support...lol).

Though you mentioned Jefferson Co., you're really talking about Trinity and St. X. Those two are known for their DEEP pocket financial support.

Though some might like to believe certain areas rear superior football talents, it isn't about the county/area at all...it's about the $$ (as with -many- things). Money buys better/more equipment, better/more coaching, and better facilities. All of which creates wonderful recruitment inducements to draw the best players from larger geographic areas. It's simple common sense.

It's off this thread's subject, but I not only researched a point, I proved 2A in that day was NOT the weak sister among the classes (3A and 1A were -both- relatively weaker by the numbers !!) - and this was back when there were 4 classes.

From reading these threads I wonder if I'm going to have to do all that again as it's STILL commonplace to hear people throw off on 2A.

Confusednicker:

Not this year IMHO without trying to get side tracked.

I think this 2014 is an especially weak year for 3A, 4A, and 5A.... not much depth in terms of top quality teams. In all three classes there are teams in the Top 10 who in recent years may not be Top 15 teams.... and teams in the Top 5 that normally would not have been Top 10.

1A is really weak from the midpoint down...but I think this is one of the stronger years I have seen for teams 1-7

6A is more balanced and strong than any year I can remember.

2A I think is especially strong this year... The Top 12 or so in 2A is as good as it has been in a long time. Proof of this came last week with Middlesboro. Also Desales is a force.

LOL... that's actually pretty clever.

This is part one for Belfry's EKYTakeover.

This week the Tug River All-Stars take on the Lower US 23 All Stars with all the best talent from Pike and Floyd County. Win that game and advance to play the Upper US 23 All-Stars with all the best from Martin, Johnson, Lawrence, and Magoffin County (Johnson Central).

If the Pirates win that the next step is playing the Central KY All-Stars from Paris drawing the best of Bourbon, Nicholas, Scott, Fayette, Harrison, and Clark County in the Semi's.

Actually, I think you have to call Belfry the "Greater Williamson All-Stars". I don't think the Pirates have anyone from Warfield, Kermit, or Ft. Gay yet (though I could be wrong...lol).

Nope...cant do it. Noah Corbett was from Logan County and over the years Matewan has been the Pirate's top recruiting battleground according to many.
^ Don't forget Chattaroy.
PaytoPlay Wrote:^ Don't forget Chattaroy.

Chattaroy doesn't count. Kentucky annexed Chattaroy when the new US119 was built where it crosses back and forth over the river. Score one for the good guys and all the Belfry boosters who obviously had a hand in the engineering and planning of that road!
Pikeville has a solid team this year. They will make some noise in the playoffs until they face a very good Williamsburg team. Belfry on the other hand is a flat out machine this year. I know a lot of Belfry faithful will correct me on this (EKU), but they will plow through the competition en route to Bowling Green. I don't care if they face Central in BG. I simply don't think anyone in 3A can stay within 2 touchdowns this year.

I don't recall who, but someone mentioned Pikeville's line matching up even with Belfry's line. :dontthink You sir need to watch some film on Belfry. They will dominate the line on both sides of the ball.

Belfry wins this one by as many as Haywood decides.

Belfry 45 (Haywood will call off the Pirates early)
Pikeville 13 (All against the JV)

Sorry PHSForever

No need to apologize, Blackcat. You are entitled to your opinion the same as everyone else. And I don't remember in this thread, anyone saying the lines match up. It is pretty obvious they will have a significant size advantage, and depth, on the line.

I think it was either earlier in this thread or in the PHS/SC thread where a SC fan was talking about the size of Pikeville's line. Contrary to public opinion, size doesn't always matter , but Belfry is really big even by their standards. However, PHS blocks well by using a combination of decent size, blocking skill, and quickness.
^^^^

From watching Pikeville games I tell you something that the Panthers really impress me with and that Belfry better account for.

This is one of the better HS teams I have seen at blocking downfield and from the WR Position. Almost every time you see an explosive run by Pikeville you can almost be certain that on that play either someone made a massive crack back block or the SE tied his man up 15 yards down field.

If you are a Belfry LB your head better be on a swivel as soon as that play starts going outside because the Pikeville ends are looking to take you out of the play.

I was surprised with how easy some of Pugh's TD runs were against Hazard and after review it was because the Hazard secondary simply couldn't get off blocks or the pursuit had been wiped out of the play completely.I saw some blocks Estep had where he held his block for at least 5 seconds if not more.. by the time the defender shook free Pugh had came alongside them at full speed and the defender had no chance to catch him.
Belfry by as much as they want could be running clock by halftime.
There is no way possible that Pikeville hangs 21 legitimate points on the Pirates - unless it is in the 4th quarter and we have our starters on the sidelines.

My prediction

First Quarter
Belfry 14
Pikeville 0

Halftime
Belfry 27
Pikeville 7

(Start of the 4th Haywood pulls the starters)

Final Score
Belfry 41
Pikeville 13

:lmao:
Anything new from either team? This thread has stalled. Not much new to say I guess.
What's left to talk about. Belfry wins big again. Seems pretty strait forward to me.

Now the haters begin again.
With Belfry having Coach Haywood thats worth at least a 21 point advantage by itself. So the game starts at 21-0 Confusednicker:
Not trying to start a rumor, has anyone heard that Joplin was leaving the Belfry program ? This kid is an amazing athlete and I would hate to lose him. I'm not looking for details of why just hoping this is a not true.

He is a good athlete, not amazing IMO. Would not have been starting had Catron not been hurt. Very good player, but learning to run like a Pirate back is a different animal. According to my source, Joplin informed them today that he will no longer be playing at Belfry. Makes the halfback spot thinner with Catron still injured.
Pikeville wins in blowout fashion Confusednicker:
