The mighty Pirates, sail into the Cumberland Lake where they are met by a small band of Warriors. Who pull a sneak attack and ambush the the mighty Pirates and pull off an unbelievable 1 point victory.

Belfry wins this one . 32-10

Belfry 35
SW 14

I don't see them running wild on Belfry's front 7, and I also don't see SW containing Belfry's running game. This will be close in the first half, but Belfry wears them down in the 2nd. I'm excited to watch this game!

If JDOAN rushes for 30 or 300 he will have earned every damn yard against a talented Belfry team. Jordan has nothing but respect for Belfry and how they play the game! Belfry is going to bring it and by no means is SW backing down! It's going to be a hard hitting football game with 2 great head coaches! If you're free Friday night come to the Reservation and catch one heck of a game!

If Southwestern is more than just Jordan Doan then they have a chance, if like many teams to face the Pirates over the past several years they are a one trick pony and rely on one man to get the job done then they will be in for a very, very long night.

It looks like their line has good size, and their fullback seemed to be pretty tough. It's going to be a fun game to watch, I just didn't see enough talent (1 game film) for SW to beat Belfry.

I love how people assume that there's no chance in hell that anyone but their team has improved on the offseason... I can say this, if anyone from Belfy has worked harder than Doan on this offseason then kudos. This game will be tight SW run D steals the show and SW takes the W. Yes I said SW will hold Belfys run game in check

But no one has a rush attack to the likes of belfry. You don't just key in on one back. We have 3, well 4 including the QB that can run and score. And when they get tired we have 3 more that will come in and continue. If your defense can keep up then it will be close.

Last year Austin Hatfield rumbled for a buck fifty eight against the Warriors and Justin Johnson added another hundred yards, JJ is gone but there are at lease 4 backs on the depth chart that I think could take 100+ home with them. In both games this year the Pirates have had no fewer than 8 guys rushing the football, very few backfields in the entire state will have legs as fresh as Belfry has on any given night. What few fail to remember is that by this time last year the Pirates where already starting to be bit by the injury bug.

In Somersets loss to the Pirates in the PCB last year Doan rushed for 114 yards. I don't think he gets that again for a few reasons. A.) This starting defense is nasty and B.) Not only do the Pirates have personal film on Doan they have experience against him. If Doan gets help it will be a great game, if he's the one man show and people expect him to take down the Pirates with his legs alone then it will be a long night for the Warriors.

So Southwestern fans feel Corbin is a better team than Belfry?

Should they get on here and post that they're going to get blown out? Most fans that part have a vested interest in their team: a child or grandchild playing or something. Of course they're going to pick their team to win.

Let me ask you this: What teams in the state would typy post on here that you expect Belfry to lose against, ever?

I think most Warrior fans know this will be an extremely tough game but I'm sure they expect their team to compete and hope that they win. I'd say you wouldn't find any realistic fan that thinks Corbin is really better than the Pirates.

I am asking an honest question.

And you are asking the wrong person.. and for that matter fanbase. Go back to the Henry Clay prediction thread and you will see Belfry fans typically aren't afraid to view their game from at times a brutally honest perspective or even call it that it wouldn't surprise them to see their team fall. It's not a lack of confidence but a by-product of playing a difficult schedule and a team that is built for the end goal.

Some Southwestern fans have been quite cavalier in their predictions. There is a difference in saying "Doan will be the X Factor and come through" and saying "Doan will run all over them". Especially when you are talking about a defense that has been lights out.

What I do know is either team banking on seeing the same teams that played last year is in for a major shock. Belfry was a night and day different team in November, let alone a full year removed. When they played Southwestern last year the Freshmen were all wide eyed and still adjusting.

Southwestern I honestly think is the single most improved team pound for pound in the entire state. Night and day difference not only from a personnel standpoint, but from an attitude and confidence standpoint.

As for the game at hand... what I see being overlooked thusfar is just how good this Belfry defense is. This is essentially the same starting defense that going back to November of last year has only allowed 3 total offensive TD's to prolific offenses such as Wayne County, Bourbon County, Pike Central, Henry Clay, and Harlan County. Of those 3 TD's... one came from a drive that started on the 2 and another was directly aided by incorrect clock keeping. This is a lightning quick Pirate defense littered with playmakers and hard hitters.

With that said, I think Southwestern scores some points. I love the Doan kid and his versatility. I think his yards rushing will be hard to come by, but he has enough explosiveness to manufacture the big play. Even more impressive is his ability to make plays catching the ball out of the backfield which is something Belfry hasn't seen and probably won't see to his level. I simply can't see Belfry bottling him up for 4 quarters.

In the end though I think yards and points are simply not going to come at enough of a premium for Southwestern and Belfry's offense is a little too big, too deep, and too skilled.

Belfry 31
Southwestern 20

Pirates keeps a very competitive game in hand and SW adds a late score to make the score reflect that.

He tried yesterday found out there was no way he would be eligible so he stayed at SW. Rumor coming from Warrior camp is his dad went off on Coach French over MVP honors at the Don Marshall Bowl. Also dad is mad about the number of carries his son is getting.

Where the hell do you people come up with such garbage? I personally know that both Doan's are extremely happy at SW and none such thing has happened. It has been and always will be about winning to them! At the end of the year trophies and personal achievements hold little value, so I find it hand to believe anyone would act that way over a MVP award. This site is 40% football and 60% he said she said, do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut unless you've heard it with your ears or seen it with your eyes.... Or better yet if you're not talking football then don't post period.

LOL....when was the last team that said they held Belfry's run game in check go ahead research it, it will take a while...It ain't happening pal..Ok let's say you are right, we throw it on ya...SW does not have the team speed Belfry has..and definitely dont have the size..if we go down and don't tackle and turn the ball over, then it will be a game...

Southwestern keeps the game respectable during the first half, then Belfry's size and speed take over in the second half. Belfry wins 42-14.

I guess there is no reason for the SW Warriors to even show up. It should be obvious to all the Warriors, that the Belfry JV probably wins and is a much faster, better prepared than anything we could ever put on the field. You guys should just call Coach French and tell him final score, save yourselves a bus ride and we can start to prepare for our next weeks opponent and save ourselves the pain and anguish.

I think Corbin will be tough as barb wire when they meet. Corbin is getting better faster than most teams in the state.

Southwestern is in for A well coached bunch of top quality athletes, they will find that French is also A good coach with A bunch of good athletes, mistakes could very well play A big part and possibly the outcome. I don't think Southwest has played up to expectation nor have they jelled this could be the place and the breakout game, I want to say Southwestern with my heart but, I pic Belfry by 18.

I have all the respect in the world for the Belfry program. Played against them at the old Belfry High school field in the mid 70's and got our brains beat in. Know doubt, they are very talented and should be favored to take it all again. But some, not all, make being a fan of your program difficult. I am from the mountains of Letcher County, pull for all the mountain teams when not playing them. I usually avoid responding to these type of threads and here we're praying for your safe travels and both teams Health...

Is Southwestern going to be able to get new QB eligible for this season?
#88
This game will come down to defense and yardage allowed for both teams. Unfortunately for Southwestern, they're a little plagued by the injury bug on defense, which could hurt late in the second half.

On the plus side, the Warriors are not limited on the ground to Doan only, as the North Hardin game proved. With Edwards, Pruitt and hopefully Whiles back from his injury, the Warriors should be able to spread the ball around a little and free Doan up some. Pruitt also threw the ball well against North and with a little help on the receiving end, which Coach French has stressed this week, things could get interesting for Belfry.

I think we all agree that Belfry will be a true test for Southwestern this week and their depth may make the difference in this one. I also know that the Warriors won't just lay down because a powerhouse is coming to play. Safe travels to the Pirates!

2010 Prestonsburg Blackcats held Belfry to 164 rushing yards.

I said I wouldn't pick against Belfry again this year after the Henry Clay game.

Belfry 42
Southwestern 20 (with 14 being scored against the JV)

Good luck to both on an injury free game.
