Harlan County @ Belfry 9/5
Do-double-gg; that's some of the funniest pictures I have ever seen!!

Confusednicker:

Belfry0304, did you see your picture I posted yesterday????
I already voted so I cant vote for both teams to lose Smile
I'm certain Gut can help you remedy that problem, doug if you want.
So all jokes aside I got to watch some video on HC last night:

1. That Bryan Station score is misleading. Harlan County is a much better team than that Final Score suggests. That game reminded me a lot of the 2012 Belfry vs. Henry Clay game. That was a tight ballgame at the beginning and the Pirates moved the ball at will...but crucial turnovers, special teams blunders, and isolated incidents of poor tackling that led to big plays ultimately blew a game open that was tighter than the scoreboard indicated. The only difference here is the young and wide eyed Bears had it happen at the start of the game whereas Belfry's came after Halftime.

2. I came away impressed with HC's line in particular #53 (Harris) and #78 (Caldwell). Caldwell is no surprise...he is an All-State guy and most people in EKY know about him... but the Harris kid really surprised me. He isn't the biggest linemen but he is tough as nails and is always the low man. He was straight abusing the bigger/faster defender. I presume Caldwell will get Horton and that will be a great battle...but the matchup on the other side with Harris will ultimately be the wild card that determines if Belfry penetrates the backfield or not.

3. The biggest surprise to me though was #12 the Huff kid. Absolutely no offense to that kid with what I am saying, but when I first saw him my immediate impression was "Weak Link" because he does not look like a RB, and frankly he isn't very fast. Then when he touched the ball my entire viewpoint changed. That kid is a wrecking ball! He ran through tackles and refused to go down on initial contact and used his frame as a weapon. Of the HC backs I think he worries me the most. For all the positives about Belfry's defense they are still a team who relies on big hits and undersized players with good speed... I am a little afraid Huff's ability to bounce off tacklers will lead to 7-8 yard gains unless the Pirates are tackling low.

4. HC is not a very fast team. They are very strong between tackles but they will struggle to find yards outside against Belfry and their passing game needs a good bit of work. The question will be:
- Can HC stop Belfry more than the Pirates move and score? Obviously if Belfry turns it over this greatly helps HC.
- Can HC keep the sticks moving and the clock running to keep this one tight? If it is tight in the 4th they have a shot.
- Can HC dial up just enough big plays to gash Belfry?

Think Belfry better buckle their chin straps and play good ball....still I like Belfry 28-14
^^
You think you are SOOO smart!!
Just because you are 100% correct?? Give me a break!! Confusednicker:

Cornet #21 is a good RB in the making. He's a little green, but I have been surprised at his level of improvement from one game to the second. He's bright and sees the field incredibly well. He will be somebody to watch!! Now, Demarcus' little cousin, Ball #2. I expected little contribution from him this year, but he has proven me dead wrong!! (I love it when that happens!!) This kid doesn't have the size on him but he would take on Zak if he thought he needed to get a yard!! Tough as nails and football smart!! I'm so excited to watch him grow this season. He needs to eat.

Harris, Caldwell and Helton are quite formidable in that O-line. I don't like excuses, but last post-season play, we had JUST lost 4 starters including Helton & Akal to injury. Children, had we been 100% healthy, it could've been a whole different scenario. I know, shoulda woulda coulda....I'm just sayin'.

I don't know this for sure, perhaps you can enlighten us EKUAlum, but I don't think Bryan Station ran more than 4 offensive plays for the first half. All their scoring came from crazy things. We would get the ball back and move it well, then shoot outselves in the foot just for giggles. We ended up having 400 rushing yards. Heck, we even PASSED the ball in this game. Completed them, too!! LOL We always start the season shaky, and learn as we go.

No matter what happens, I want both teams to bring their A games, and the better team will win!!

Go Black Bears!!!!
We know Belfry has lost one player due to injury for now. Are there others from either side banged up/questionable for this game?

Go Black Bears!!!!
I agree Jake needs to eat and I told his mom the same thing. He will be OK, but he's gonna take some big hits Friday night. If we can keep turnovers down, the D can get some stops it will be closer than some think. Plus the pirates have put the ball on the turf in the past, let's hope that near perfect game was a fluke and they will make up for it with a few turnovers that we can capitalize on Confusednicker: Either way its gonna be good ole' smash mouth football.
^ Turnovers can certainly turn this game in either direction. I suspect Harlan County will be able to move the football with the power running game. If they can't, then Belfry is indeed going to be very tough to handle this season.

Jake needs to come and live with me or BlackBearMama!! LOL

Jake will take some big licks tomorrow night, but he's learning and this experience can only make him better.

Hey, like the Black Bears, the Pirates normally start off the season on shaky ground. I hope that returns for just one week!!!! Confusednicker:

Almost time!!!
This could be one of Belfry's best teams.....Belfry by 2 touchdowns...
Granny Bear UR COOL.....
Go big red....pirate's pirate's pirate's....
Belfry's speed will win this game.....
U guys make this fun!!!!!
I overheard some men talking today at work that Belfry and Harlan Co was playing tomorrow night. Can anybody let me know if this game is taking place? If so, Gut, why don't me and you go. I tell ya what, I will even let you buy gas, food, and tickets for game. Whatcha say big guy?
One more day. Can't wait for these two teams to grind it out in some smash mouth MOUNTAIN FOOTBALL at its best. One thing I know for sure is no matter the outcome. Both teams will take away from this game what they need to, to get better for the long haul.
