Prestonsburg Blackcats 2013

If true i dont think it was done in order for a weaker schedule. I see they replaced them with Knox Central.

The schedule is definately weaker. Picking up Pikeville (7-6), Powell (2-9) and Knox (10-2). While dropping Perry, Pike Central once and Belfy. Knox is the toughest of the 3 and they are average over the last decade with the exception of last years team who only had 2 loses but they graduated their top players. Regardless nothing beats the Pburg vs. Belfry rivalry no matter how good or how bad either team is. Makes me sad.

We (Belfry fans) will miss the game too guys.

Good luck this coming season!

I agree with some of your statement. Nothing beats P'burg vs Belfry game period. Those games have the largest crowds of any game of the year.

I do understand Knox loses a lot this year, but so does Belfry. IMO thats an equal trade (though i would prefer the P'burg vs Belfry rivalry to continue).

Perry Co & Pike Central have been on a downward spiral the last 2 years. Perry loses 22 seniors this year including Beatty, Pray, & Robinson. The reason for 2 Pike Central games was because neither team could schedule a game for that particular week. Prestonsburg winning both by a combined 57 points.

Powell along with Pikeville where both young teams last year. Powell only having 7 seniors and a combined 29 sophmores & freshman. Although they didnt show any improvement toward seasons end & lost to Pike Central IMO not a big drop off between the 2. Pikeville on the other hand only lost 5 seniors and will return 9 juniors along with 14 freshman who seen a lot of action last year. Pikeville also improved drastically as the season went on. I look for Pikeville to be very competitive this year in place of Perry Central.

Those are my reasons for saying i dont see the schedule really being weaker with the changes. I think overall it was an even trade off. I will miss playing Belfry though. Hopefully they can get the rivalry game back soon.

Who are going to fill the holes the Griffith Brothers, Williams, Kidd, and Vandine leave on defense for the Blackcats?

Who is going to fill holes left by the Griffith brothers, Williams, Kidd, and Vandine on Defense? Anyone know who looks to fill spots.

Those are some tough shoes to fill. Of course every year we ask ourselves this very same question only with different names.

The D-line you will have Steven Perry, Thomas Spears, Austin Holbrook, & Kyle Wallace.

The LB positions possibly Johnathan Mullins, Chase Ousley, & Dalton Frasure.

The DB positions Grant Anderson & Seth Marcum for sure. Other possibilities are Chatlin Jarrell, Steven Litte, & Cole Bartley.

The one player i think could be very versatile on defense would be B.J. Holliday. I could see him at either LB, DE, or DB.

Saw a lot of improvement in the Ousley kid last year defensively and showed promise in limited action on offensive side of the ball. Another kid was the Goble kid on defense as DE had a real high motor on defense.

I agree.

I spot that you do think of missing is Johnathan Stidham on extra point. Pburg will truely miss him if they don't have someone good at this position. Sean White did good job in JV. Stidham made a big contribution this year with 41 points.

Knox Looks forward to showing you AVERAGE. LoL
#44
Wasn't the Ousley kid the leading rusher and scorer for the JV last year?

Thats one persons opinion. I referenced them with the likes of Belfry.

IMO, they are way better than average. I'm sure thats the opinion of most Blackcat Fans.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I said over the last decade (10 Years) and according to KHSAA Knox record during that period is 61W - 52L overall and 6W - 7L post season with 3 years not even making post season. On a 4.0 grading scale that is actually below average with a 53% winning percentage.

As far as BlackcatFan#1 comparing to Belfry, well I'd have to disagree. In that same 10 year period Belfry has 109W - 25L overall with a post season record of 36W - 8L having 2 state championships, 4 runner ups and 3 semi finals.

With all that being said I do think it will be a great game and Knox is on the rise after adding coach Scottie Russell. All I was saying was the 2013 schedule is a little weaker than the 2012 schedule and that I hated not seeing Belfry on the schedule cause the Belfry vs. Prestonsburg rivalry is unmatched in Eastern Kentucky.

I was not offended at all. You guys have a great program that will be an honor to play. Ten years ago we were terrible. Over the last 5 or 6 years our team has seen the value of having a feeder program and a better stregth and conditioning program. Coach Russell has been tremendous as well.

We know we will have our hands full. The "average" comment just gave me a place to build a little fire. We are excited to have the shot at playing you guys. We will do our best to show you the progress we have made over the last 10 years when we meet in Clay County.

My comparison is for now. I was not comparing a 10 years history.

Is there anyone who played on JV that can step in and play and impact the varsity? Or is it going to take a couple of games to get on track and try to find the right fit for these players who will fill the holes let by graduation?
#50
I honestly don't know what to expect. Blackcats lost a lot of key pieces from this past seasons team. What defense they did have, they pretty much lost. On offense they lost arguably their best player in Williams. Returning Jarrell & Frasure will be huge, but if Anderson doesn't play then that slows down that offense a ton. Anderson is their fastest player and only proven route runner that can make a play on the team.

Blackcats really need a lot of guys to step up and I'm sure they will. They'll be young, and I'm confident that they'll be able to capture another district title, but getting past the 1st round of the playoffs is going to be tough.

Wish they would've kept Perry Central on the schedule. These two have developed a rivalry and each of their last 4 or 5 games have been nail biters. Don't know why that series is over, but I think it was a mistake losing it. Dropping Belfry is understandable, because Prestonsburg clearly isn't on their level right now. I like the addition of Knox Central to the schedule, as the Panthers have been playing some really good football in a upper class over the last 4 or so seasons. The Sheldon Clark, Lawrence County, and Hazard games should be dandys.

no one to watch that may have potential from the jv? it will be wait and see?
#52
Last post wasn't worded correctly. It was a question about if there were any JV players that had the potential to play at varsity level ?
#53
It's hard to seperate the JV from the Varsity because so many Freshman and Sophmores saw action on the varsity level. Spears, Perry,J. Jarrrel, Frasure, Marcum, all started as Freshmen or Sophmores.Holiday, Ousley, C. Jarrell and Goble all saw significant action on the varsity and performed very well. Walker and Evan Jarrell were the difference in the Perry Central game but both were injured shortly thereafter and saw limited action while they recovered. The players I look for to make a significant impact this year are Eric Collins and Sean White on the O-line

P burg wil be fine...Great QB returning....Frasure may be the most talented kid on their team..What happens with Anderson will mean allot..he dont like to practice, but when the lights come on ...on a Friday night...he will be there...
#55
The blackcats had a great freshman class this year. one of the best in the state. what will the next freshman class bring?
#56
Did Seth Marcum, Chatlin Jarrell, Steven Litte, & Cole Bartley see enough Varsity time to take on the main role? Can they keep competeing being the underdogs? Marcum looks good, but does the other three have the ability to keep up on Varsity and fill holes when needed throughtout the season?
#57
Cole Bartley didnt even hardly play on JV or varsity last year..

Does anyone want to speculate what the lineups may look like
for next season?

Seth started on defense all year and will play well. The others know what to do and played limited varsity and will play good but will get better as season goes on. It is getting that game experience that kids really learn about football and were improvements come. You can practice all you want be game time is when you learn the most.

With the playing time Seth received last year i see him taking a big step forward this year. Kid plays hard & dont care to hit.
