Is this true?

Here is my 2 cents. I know that this is a couple of stupid people doing stupid stuff. But I wish Knott Central's administration would call it for what it is. It made me sick to see that they said the USA chant was because they are the Patriots. Don't lie about it.
#32
Admin was given every chance to do something about this but they chose to look the other way! They brought this on themselves!

They were just plain stupid and I won't post them on here.

I will say that they contained vulgar language, a burning flag, a noose and more racially charged garbage.

It was an unfortunate situation and if my players were involved I would sit them. I know BB has a lot on the line with a good team and a lot of pressure, but that wouldn't be something that I would put up with.

BB is not involved at all due to the fact that the incident did NOT involve basketball players. It has been alleged that it was 1 or 2 students at Knott County Central, however those 2 students claim the twitter accounts were created under their name in order to send those horrible pictures, and they were not involved.
We will never know really... the pictures were horrible, the USA chant was just a pep section being a pep section, and now it is over.

We have an awesome semi final night to look forward to.

This isn't the worst case of racism I've seen around here.

However, I think we all know that this is the actions of a few reflecting on an entire fan base.

The "USA" chants were harmless IMO, but the pics were out of line and I'm confident most people in Knott County were ashamed to see them.

Thank you Zaga. This is one of the first times I have seen someone post about this situation and it actually made sense.

Just another note..the pictures that were sent by Cordia students that made fun of/ stereotyped/ etc. ALL of Eastern Kentucky are FINALLY circulating on social media... THIS IS NOT A ONE SIDED ISSUE... as they usually are not.

This was never a one sided issue. Yes cordia fans did make a photo that stereotyped kcc fans. But kcc came back with racial photos. Whenever you use the words black and white and throw in a noose your asking for the law to be brought into it. If kcc would have came back with a stereotype photo it would have been ok. And cordia is in eastern ky so they bascially stereotype d theirselves along with kcc, but their are multiple african american canadians in this area now and two were singled out. Where was these chants and signs when jbs came to kcc? That what's going to stand out over everything.
#37
Cordia sure has changed a lot from the times i remember going on the road and playing in there.

Those 2 toothless MEN were students?

What did those pics look like? I'd say they aren't as bad as the other ones

Do you really think KCC can play "victim" in all of this? I don't care what Cordia sent to KCC students...there is NO excuse to bring race into this!!!!!!!! Photos were sickening and violent. And it might have been 1 or 2 students that posted it but I also saw MANY "likes" on these photos. I can see why these students did not have the judgement to "know better" because apparently the adults don't either. It makes me sick to hear excuses from students, fans, parents, and KCC admin. If you don't condone it, you are supporting it!
#42
Who cares about this foolishness. Lets settle it on the basketball court. Hollaring USA when you are playing a team full of Canadian Transfers, well I dont think theres nothing wrong with it. Not trying to be racist at all. It is what it is. Dont matter if it was 5 white Canadians on the floor for Cordia. Heck KCC has 2 black kids on their team. I dont think theres to many race problems in Knott County.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well. Lol

In this day and age I have always thought this stuff was a part of our past not the present. The two students that did this had to learn this from someone and I would say that would be their parents.
This a disgrace not only to eastern Kentucky but the whole state. What does this say about the way we are raising our children? God help us all!!

I was so upset I got my words jumbled... If you condone this behavior, you support it!

What does skin pigment have to do with it? I don't understand.

This is on yahoo sports now. If its going nation wide as a uk fan I hope Mr. Wiggins doesn't read into before making his decision. He is mentioned at the end of the article.

This was all started by anita madden, who is mad because her husband didn't get the superintendent job. She went to a board meeting and demanded everyone's resignation because board employees wore knott central shirt's. She said they were all racist. Hiring Rhodes and all the recruiting, was done just to beat BB king because he is the brother-in-law of the superintendent.
Now look what a black eye she is giving all of Knott County.

This whole thread has been about skin pigment. I do not think Knott Central has a race problem, just some really ignorant kids stating some really bad things. Those kids need to be severely punished. If they catch who done criminal things to whomever these Canadian kids are staying with, they need to go to jail. This thread was started about Knott Central not being able to play due to racial issues. Kentucky Department of Education may need to investigate both schools due to possible racism and a public school used as an avenue for recruiting for athletic endeavours instead of academics.

The couple of pictures posted from Cordia's side pales in comparison to what was done by Knott Central! I have never seen such racist actions involving a high school basketball game! Not only the pictures but the USA chants were obviously directed at Cordia's Canadian born players. Absolutely rediculous and completely uncalled for!

I am sure that almost everyone in the state has heard about it but, if you have not, here is the link to the article on WLEX.

lol, you got to love the intensity of mountain basketball.

When you have a region like the 14th where teams absoloutly hate each other and are constantly competeting year in and year out, then bring in foreign exchange students, your asking for it. These are kids, they dont think before they do.

The Yahoo Sports article was terribly written.

Did you read the comments?

I hope those people got what they wanted- all of eastern Kentucky looking terrible over a couple of high school students. (the USA chant was harmless people!)

News story just came up on yahoo news. If any of the individuals are caught they should be punished to the full extent of the law. All of this over A crazy game. And the sad part is the 14th region represenattive may win 1 game in the state tournament not like we are playing for something important.
#54
If I was Cordia I'd take the court with an American and Canadian flag and demand Oh Canada be played before the game.
#55
I don't know about and haven't seen the talked about pictures floating around, and from the sounds of it I don't want to. If they are that bad, then whoever took/posted them and the person/people who shot out the window in the house and destroyed the mailbox and whatever damage may have been done, those poeple are just trash and should be dealt with as such.

The USA chants though, thats a different matter. I'm not saying I am in agreement with it, but, whats racist about that? They have "questionable" (supposedly) transfer students from another country (Canada), and the KCC students gave them a hard time about it. I'd say they would have probably done the same thing if Cordia had 2 or 3 lilly white British kids who transfered, especially if it was "questionable", and were good players who elevated their team to new heights.

Not all eky. Knot county central has been mentioned in every article. Cordia will make it well known no other school acted like his while our players were eligible. And their pretty sure kcc didn't either. Including playing a jbs roster with two african americans also from canada.

I think that's the bad part it shouldn't reflect the school or county as a whole.

Canadian basketball transfers subjected to racism from Kentucky high school fans

By Ben Rohrbach | Prep Rally

One Kentucky high school basketball team either has some of the dumbest student fans or the most racist. Or both.

After tagging Cordia (Hazard, Ky.) High players Emmanuel Owootoah and Marlon King -- both Canadian transfers of Caribbean descent -- in Facebook and Twitter posts featuring a burning flag and a noose hanging over the oh-so-creative phrase "[Expletive] Canada," Knott County Central (Hindman, Ky.) High students began chanting "USA!" prior to a district championship game between the two schools on Friday, according to reports published on Kentucky.com and ZagsBlog.com (h/t Big Lead).

"They should have better class than that, man," Owootoah told Kentucky.com after dropping 24 points in a 66-60 loss to their rivals 20 miles down the road. "But at the same time, I thought it was funny. I don't let stuff like that get to my head."

The Knott County Central principal told LEX 18 News the chants are "open to interpretation," since his school's mascot is the Patriots. Good one. The principal knows only of one student who was involved and says the taunting goes both ways between the schools. OK, then. Nothing to see here, I guess.

But what about the fact that Eduardo and Jessica Flores, who serve as guardians to both Owootoah and King, have bullet holes in their back door, a smashed mailbox and report "repeated" attacks on the children, according to the ZagsBlog.com report?

Might want to address those issues instead of trying to bury them under a rug by claiming the least egregious of all the acts -- the "USA!" chants -- are "open to interpretation." Especially since the teams may meet again with a regional title on the line this week.

Not a good look, especially since the University of Kentucky has scouted Owootoah. He might think twice about the Wildcats, even if the acts of a select number of folks from Hindman don't reflect the opinions of most other Kentuckians.

Likewise, as the Big Lead notes, No. 1 national recruit in the Class of 2013 Andrew Wiggins is expected to choose between Kentucky and his father's alma mater, Florida State. Wiggins is both black and Canadian.

Until the fugitives came fourth about web photos, damage to mailbox, and shooting of the house it has to be about knott as a whole. No other way to say it until then. And the chants wouldnt be so terrible if the other stuff hadn't happened. I mean really a noose and then shooting of the house in which the Canadians stay in. Wow
