Clay County 61 Perry County Central 60
#61
Woody played for Clay on the 85 and 86 teams. I think Stephen was in 99 when Clay beat Harlan in the finals and in 98 against Red Bird.
Rodger Simms Cotton (from Harlan) played on the 89 team, I think.

Where does Richie Farmer's son currently attend school?

Well I would have liked to have talked about the game on here....

My thoughts on the game, and my thoughts and a dollar will buy u a cup of coffee. LOL, so here goes: PCC was up 22 to 9 in late n the 1st or early in the 2nd quarter. I thought PCC subbed a little to early but it is what it is. The game was very boring and PCC looked like they really didnt want to be out there. No fight at all from them. I dont think PCC understands that they will always get everyone else's best game. Until they do they will continue to lose these types of games. I truly thought CC wanted this game more. Cornett, Beverly and Johnson didnt have great games. Credit CC defense or whatever you want to, they didnt play very inspired!!! With that being said, the ball was clearly out on CC w/ 2.4 secs left but CC got the ball back. Then the foul on Cornett w/ .7 secs left was questionable at best. I know some on here say he was killed but the kid shot it into Cornetts hand and cornett blocked it so hard that he fell to the ground. If you call that foul then you have to call the last one when Johnson got mugged!!! I know some of yall will bash this post and feel free, but thats just the way I saw it. If you swallow the whistle on one end you need to on the other end. That wasnt the case in the last fews secs last night. I still say the lose is on PCC because they allowed CC to hang around. Congrats to CC on a good win!!!!

Everyone knows Clay during the Bobby Keith era got more than their share of transfers, IMO nothing wrong with that says something about the quality of your program when kids want to come and play for your program.

Peace be among us.

Didn't the 13th and 14th draw in the first round of the state tournament? Could possibly see these two again.
Clay County has a very good team this year. I for one would like to see them make it back to the state tournament. It's been a long time for them and they certainly have the tradition. Also would like to see Jackson. County make their first trip to Rupp. Clay and Jackson had two great games during the season, one a two point win for the Tigers and the other a one point win.

I would LOVE to see this rematch in Lexington.

And someone mentioned Perry robbing Clay County with the refs in the Classic...

if Perry makes two 3-pointers early in that one...
Dores win by double-digits

I sat directly in front of that .7 shot from Johnson. If he hadn't had to come down with it, Perry Central wins but he did and Bowling got all ball. I'm talking palming it in Johnson's hand. I would love to see the photos. Great draw up by Spurlock that I'm sure they had practiced many times. The pass was phenomenal. Reed was fouled pretty hard on Clay's possession. He leaned into Cornett (no offensive) and it made it to where when Dalton turned around he had to mug him. Perry Central looked "gone" after halftime. Clay County almost owned them in the third quarter. I hope this isn't the last time the two teams face this season.

And I don't want to heart about it being close heading into the 4th. It was Clay County vs. Justin Johnson in the third.

I was at this game thought it was actually a good game. However when a game comes down to the last possession saying someone owned the game is a stretch to far for me.

Peace be among us.

It dont matter who won this game last night. Its all for real starting Tuesday if Perry loses to Hazard then its over we can take our ball and go home. If Clay County loses then they can take their ball and go home. I believe neither one of these teams will be in the sweet 16 in three weeks. i think Perry will beat Hazard just because its at Perry I believe Knott County will win the 14th region. I believe Corbin will win the 13th I may be wrong but one of these two that played last night will not be in the sweet 16 if not both I believe.

LOOKAYANNER Wrote:If Clay County were in the 14th region this year they would be rated no better than 4th best team, possibly 5th. I would rate Perry Central, Knott Central, and a now healthy Hazard in front of them on a neutral court.

Is that with or without transfers?

rojas Wrote:I hope that stuff doesn't go on anymore. I was told by a referee friend of mine that during the Keith era coach Keith made it known that if you were calling a big Clay Co game and you called it the way Coach Keith wanted, a new suit would be waiting for you at Dobson and Keith clothing store. My friend said he never accepted the suit but his officiating partner sure did.

During the 1991 season, Clay Co. was deep into their 100+ game home court winning streak. Bo Rhoden of Corbin tipped in a missed shot for the Corbin win a couple seconds before the final buzzer. An official who had not yet crossed the half court line called over the back and waved off the basket. Just one example.

Theres a name i hadnt heard in a while.
Rhoden was a beast. Good athlete. If my memory is right, he was a heck of a baseball player as well wasnt he?

zaga_fan Wrote:I called it as well.

However, when any big name team from the 14th plays an away game in another region around here right before the tournament - you can expect a loss.

I didn't see it so I can't comment too much - but I'd almost guarantee that Perry Central got the ole' Bobby Keith special.

Had Clay went to the 14th region they would of got the "transfer special" Confusednicker:

You're way off. Bowling was on the ball defending the inbounds. Rice got the block, but the foul was with Lyttle having Johnson's left arm. I'm a die hard CC fan, but if the whistle blew on the Cornett block it probably should have on the other end too. Clay has to clean up the mental lapses. When missing a FT you have to put it in the rim. Almost lost the game with that bonehead mistake.

My apologizes if I am wrong, I was only focused on the basketball. However, it was a block and #32 and #23 can be seen different ways in excitement.

If there was a bad call one way it was made up on the other end. This game means absolutely nothing if you lose, but if you win it is momentum heading into your respected district and region tournaments.
#82
UKCC are you blind? Lol.
#83
I heard the next time these two teams meet that Richie Farmer and Heston Beverly will be having a classic one on one at halftime.

I specifically said the third quarter. More of owning them overall. I honestly thought the Tigers were about to pull away before Johnson stepped up. The game remained close.

When you say owned to me this is big win. This was close game Perry even led midway of the fourth quarter. Clay played a good game. But when a game comes down to the last possession I don't think anybody owned anything.

Maybe these two will play again. Would be good game. But several other teams may prevent this from happening. Time will tell.

Hazard Wins 14th Harlan Wins 13th.

PCC - I saw no team chemistry among the PCC players, they are missing the stuff that makes good teams great.

Clay - is the 13th favorite but so far Marcum's teams have always folded to a major case of Chokeitis in the big game in the past.

But Whatta I know

It sure gets hard to bite my tongue when I read what some of these trolls put on here, Perry fans and haters alike. Regardless, I said in the prediction thread that this wouldn't be a bad game for Perry to lose, I hope it lights a fire under them going into the post-season, I would love to see both of these teams on the floor at Rupp, it would be a great game. Congrats to Clay County on a good win.
