2013 preseason powerhouses

knighted Wrote:IMO....Bowling Green might be the best team in any class next year. They return 14 senior starters from last year that we know of. Lexington Catholic begins their season at Bowling Green and their second game Catholic plays St. X in our bowl. It's going to be a tough start for Lex Cath to open season with. This year I'm thinking maybe FTH was the top team in the state. But of course that's just my opinion.

It's tough to say on that. Highlands has been waiting for this class to come through for awhile. Their seniors to be were the best Freshman group that I ever saw. Potential is a nasty word, but they could potentially be the best in the state next year.

HDE Wrote:I think Williamsburg will be the team to beat in Region 3 of Class A. They return almost all their skill guys.

In 5A, Pulaski County and Madison Southern will probably battle for District 7. I know Southwestern has some very, very good players coming out of middle school.

Harlan County will be the District 8 and Region 4 favorite. The Bears bring back a very strong junior class and will probably have the three top players in the district in Whitehead, Long and Wilson.
Whitley will be a solid second. Letcher may overtake Perry Central because Perry Central loses their playmakers.

I agree with you HDE on HC being the District 8 and Region 4 favorite.

However, I see the the District 7 having four different teams battling for it. Pulaski, Madison Southern, Southwestern and North Laurel.

I know everyone counts NL out of it each year before the season. But, NORTH IS ON THE RISE. Loosing only two key players, Velasco and Hacker, from this years team. The Jags are going to be a better team. Returning stars, Nelson, McFadden, Blair, and both lines.

Pulaski loses Goins and four other key position players. I do not think they can go undefeated next year again in district play.

Madison Southern is losing a half-dozen key position players and I do not think they will be as good as this years team.

Southwestern was a very young team this year and should be much improved for next season.

Lincoln County was also young and should be better.

South Laurel- I have nothing to say good so I will not say anything!!!!!!!!!

I really think Trinity will be nice, as well as New Cath, and watch out for the Somerset Briar Jumpers to make a title run. Returning all of their skilled positions.

FTH and Bowling Green should play each other next year. Would be a great game for Ihigh to archive

Reggie B is bigger and more of an athlete than Travis. He was the #2 WR behind James Quick. He will do more with his feet. He does have a cannon, but will not be as accurate at Travis.

The Trinity JVs handled X fairly easily this year after losing a close game as Frosh last year. If any team in the state RELOADS it is the Rocks.

It will be interesting what Wolford brings to X next year. I for one do not think a part time coach will be able to outwork Coach Beatty who eats, sleeps and breathes football 24/7. He may bring a bump for a year or so, but I see the recent history as the new normal for this rivalry.

I respect your loyalty and I hope Russell County is very competitive next year but I think you will find out that it takes more than a handful of good players to expect RC to compete for the regional title next year. Lex Cath loses a lot of depth but we will be really strong in the skilled positions. Our line play will be very good too as long as we stay healthy. Sounds like the Blue Chickens, no disrespect intended, will again be team to beat in 4A once again.

Really? D1 offers and he hasnt even played a game at QB. He may be able to run but his throws are all over the place, and behind him is Delvisco/Young. You gotta agree that is a step back in that position. Reisert and Jackson are some nice young backers that will help the Defense. Nobody on that roster can replace Quick, evidenced by their stuggles in the playoffs without him. I think he can get a nice running game going with whats left on the roster. Yes they do reload but this will be the biggest test in a few years for them.

russellpride Wrote:So let me get this straight fairview just went to state title game right? I know they lose 3 great backs but you think they are just going away? State title appearance does a lot for your program don't see raceland being great at all they are not physical and pretty soft but that's my opinion. I don't know if they think they can truly be great program their kids don't seen to care or a bad pikeville team wouldn't have beat them that's soft mentally and physically. So why should they be district favorites? Crazy

I am taking into account: What each team has returning, who they are losing and the match ups that will create. Fairview isnt just losig 3 great backs in King, Brewer, and their best all around player Turner. In those 3 alone they lose that ability to score on any play, they lose the ground and pound grind out the clock in Brewer, they lose two yds and a cloud of dust without King. Most importantly, they lose the team leader in Turner. Without him, they wouldnt hae had the year they did.

Raceland returns their leading rusher and scorer in Daylin Beach(1,000 yds 20+ tds) they return their 2nd leadig rusher in Litteral(875 yds and 10+ tds). They return Elkins behind center 1200+ yds and 20+ tds. Along with that they return the 2 leading recievers in Messer and Vance. They also have an influx of freshman coming in that could compete for varsity time, which I think will push many of the returning starters from last year to play with added spark and desire. What they lose will be a big return man in Valencourt and a couple senior leaders in Boyles and Caldwell. But they will be replaced with better linemen. Raceland will be much better next year in relationship to this team.
What Raceland returns vs what Fairview returns: isnt the difference.
What fairview loses is. That is why I believe they will be the district favorite. But that is why they play the game on the field and not on paper.

Bowling Green has won 30 in a row. I believe they will be at 45 in a row, at the end of next season.

No talent on the schedule for next season?
#42
No, it's a cupcake schedule. Smile I was just messing around. We have a tough schedule, as usual. I think we are playing two teams from Tennessee. Blackmon from Murfreesboro and McCallie from Chattanooga.

Belfry has proven to be the best in the mountains. I see no change in that.

Darn... That's a tough start for Lex Cath. as least the first 2 games. Well are they looking at another 3 lost season perhaps?

Im a fan But I like Wayne County next year in 3A... 10-2 last year put out by central in a close game at the end of the year.. 17-18 starters retrurn! depending on the game...

1A mayfield 2A NewCath 3A Central 4A highlands 5A bowling green 6A trinity. I hate the 6 class system the only one of these that aren't locks are 2A And 3A.

I agree with most of your points. MS thou, IMO returns quite a bit of talent. They are still very young. Plus, they had a QB move in who provides that loss from #17 last year. The new kid threw for over 2300 yards at Tates Creek, should be a nice combo with Harris. Plus they return most of their defense.

I think it will be PC and MS again for the District Title.

Highlands is going to have a great senior class this year. Loaded up everywhere. With T having to replace the big 3 from the past 3 years, i think the Birds will be the best of the state. Sorry BG but you are number 3 again, unless T takes a bad turn with rookies at the helm.

depends on how the recruitng class of 2013 goes for Fairview will determine how or if they will be a heavy contender this upcoming year. I would be shocked with all the attention on Fairview for recruting violations that they bring in any kids from Huntington or anywhere else for that matter.
#54
In 1a from what i can see Mayfield will be a favorite again,
#55
I expect Owensboro Catholic and Caldwell county to battle for 2A dominance in the western side of the state. Both teams have stud QBs to build around.

Well prepare to be shocked, from what i'm hearing. Also they have some younger kids transferring from Boyd. They are always preaching "BITW" but they obviously don't believe in the kids from the Wood.

mason Wrote:Trinity will have Bonnafon at QB and he already has D1 offers.

Kid is obviously an exceptional athlete with great physical skills and I hope he does really well as the QB of T. But unfortunately Zeke Pike comes to mind. Zeke also received all kinds of D-1 offers before he started one varsity game as the QB. The offers were based on his physical skills demonstrated at camps and combines. Unfortunately, those skills didn't equate to a whole lot of wins for Dixie Heights and Zeke as the starting QB. Zeke obviously had some personality "flaws" that hindered his ability to lead his team and quite frankly, he didn't have the talent surrounding him that was needed to have greater success. Hopefully Bonnafon doesn't have those "flaws". But playing high school QB takes qualities and characteristics beyond just having the physical skills that D-1 recruiters want and that fact that he has already received D-1 offers doesn't in my mind equal almost guaranteed success for Trinity or him as the starting QB. For Trinity to be really good again, not only will Bonnafon have to prove he can actually do what a QB has to do, but the players replacing Quick and Dawkins on O and all the departing defensive players are really going to have to step up.

Having said that, I wouldn't bet against Trinity repeating unless X, Scott County and a couple of other possible 6A contenders really improve their game.

How is Highlands going to replace the seniors they lost? I know they had a good hard running runningback and a few receivers that were Juniors but am not all that familiar with them. How many seniors graduated from their starting line. Can next years QB run like McCoy or will Highlands move to a more passing based attack?

I think the OLine is returning 4 or so "starters" all huge avg 250 or so (Highlands rotates OLinemen) senior TE is like 6'- 20" 240. ath basketball type.

I know McCoy was a B.A. but there was debate about putting him back at WR and putting Hueliston at QB. Hueliston is a pure passer that is crazy accurate and can move DBs around like fools.

Highlands will have arguably the best RB tandem in the state in seniors Zac Harris and Jaylen Hayes. Zac Harris has been pounding suckers since he started as a sophmore. Jaylen Hayes is crazy dangerous speedster that is going to break out this year.

I think all the WRs are going to be back and they are pretty good.

The D is going be crazy Seth Hope is going to be the best Defensive player in the state, Wroblowski will be an all state LB. and the DBs are all coming back but one.

Best Bird team on paper in a while

Highlands will deffinately be among the best next year. I also think BG is among the best also. Flip a coin, I'd put either one of those two teams as #1 and the other at #2
