Its the ego thing that worries me. Last years seniors were selfless. (gary runyon a three year strter his junior year and a great fullback, give up fullback and inside linebacker to play only outside linebacker never muttered a word, just produced.) i cant see this class doing something like that, hatfield has the right mindset, may has the right mindset to jam it in the hole and bulldog three to four yards, the projected starters i dont know
As for the camps, we should be proud of these kids for doing well. I didn't need those invites to know that the five kids who were invited are the real deal. Trust me!

Payton Mullins has already said, if he has to move to o-line he will. These guys just wanna do what it takes to win.

Agree ^. These kids are gonna work hard and be successful. Those who legitimately don't buy in won't figure in.
I prefer to be VERY optimistic. I mean sheesh, on the D-line: Timmy May, Hayden Hatfield, Barnes, James May, Joey Duty, #16. At LB: Messer/Ghormley/Mullins/X (that is a nasty bunch). In the secondary: Robinson at Safety, Thacker at CB, Huddle, Dari, Cameron Johnson, etc to step up with solid athleticism.
What is not to like about that defense?
Offense will be a little more up in the air for sure. How do you replace the leadership of Williams and the (IMO) maybe the best fullback to play the position at Belfry? It won't be easy. But look at what you have coming back. Warren has done nothing but perform, even when asked to as a Frosh (with 8 INT's). Robinson had a solid year last year and will only mature. Justin Johnson is primed to breakout this upcoming season after a good Soph season. Trentity Carr seems to have really taken his offseason seriously and everything I hear about Austin Hatfield is positive. And of yeah, on the line - I like Jude/Taylor/James May (who i think will be a nasty G) and Messer at TE. Leaves two spots that need to be filled, but Im sure there are young men to step up.
Why be negative about this upcoming team? Do they need to work hard and commit? Of course! Are the pieces there? Yep

You see I read this entire post before I made a comment. I see coments on how little brothers are twice the ballplayers as there older brothers who worked hard and acomplished much in there time at belfry. joey duty is a great kid, and in time he is on the field, court or diamond, he is probably the smartest one out there. but his big brother worked hard, didnt start going into his junior year, earned a spot and started in two state championships. dont run him down. fields was a three year starter earned all state his senior year, and his brother who hasnt played a full season since 6th grade is twice the ball player he is. he didnt even play last year and i bet he dont play ever again. there are seeral other comments that i used to make the conclusion that imaturity and ego could be a real problem. you cant go by what you did in little league to say what kind of ball player you will mature into. the leadership of this past senior class will be sorely missed. do i think we have what we need yes, just because i see a potntial problem and say it does no way mean im a hater, no way!

belfry football could be great this year but there are alot of underlaying problem occuring as we speak. there will be alot of kids we are looking forward to see play this year that will not even be playing all of this will come out soon most are lineman. haywood will have to do what he always do build most of his team. if belfry can do that than could possibly win the east. but if not finishing 3rd is the best there going to do. i hate to say that but i see it coming:yikes:

I heard practice doesn't start until the 23rd? Seems like Haywood usually starts a week later than he could.
Football can't come soon enough. Are the scrimmages Hazard and Boyd Co. at home?

This is a quote usually made by several Befry supporters, "we get better as the season goes on". Maybe you could be ahead of your normal game if practice started when available. Maybe that could be the difference in a State Runner-up & a State Championship.
Dont take these statements wrong. I support Belfry in there State Championship run every year, and they are one of our biggest rivals. I"m just saying.

I didn't think practice was allowed until a certain amount of days before school. We always start the Monday of my birthday (28th), I know that much.

Dead period is over. Practice can start now. Not in full pads, but you can still practice.

i am one of biggest Belfry fans there is, and i totally agree with you..why waste 2 wks ,the younger ones that may play this year could have 2 extra weeks to help get the system down..

Let's not pretend they're not doing anything, I'm not sure why we don't do the practice as soon as available, but they do have conditioning and weight training twice a day.

How many Friday nights are played in just helmets & cleats?? Until you are able to put pads on its just glorified 7on7!!! If I'm not mistaken football is mostly blocking & tackling, so how much of that can be accomplished until you can put pads on?? When teams are so called peaking in the early season the Pirates are still getting better, its a good formula & seems to work out pretty good on Pond Creek.

As i stated dont take the statement the wrong way. There is a lot to learn in these glorified 7on7. I know football is mostly blocking & tackling, but there is a lot of fundamentals to be taught with out the pads on. I was simply saying with the extra 2 weeks practice you could have more trophies in your case.
I support Belfry when there not playing my team. This was not meant as an insult or anything of the sort. I'm simply saying a lot can be done in those 2 weeks without pads. Technique, timeing, etc.

It wasn't taken the wrong way its just how the all-time winningest coach in KY has done things & it works. How many players look like all-americans without pads on & when the pads do go on they just don't have what it takes.....A BUNCH!!!! Its just my opinion that there's not anything that can be accomplished in those extra 2 weeks of practice without pads. It just becomes boring for the players & coaches plus if your fortunate enough to play until December that is a LONG season.....but everyone has their thoughts on the subject of when to start. Which is the right one??? Who knows!!! Its all about what your head coach feels comfortable doing. GOOD LUCK except on Sept. 7th...LOL

Speaking of 7 on 7, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at about 6:30 at BHS they do so, it's fun to watch. Gets me too ready to the upcoming season.

Did they close the bridges that lead to West Virginia or something? How many more players will Belfry get from the new Mingo Central program this season? I'm looking forward to our matchup in Putnam this year!
