Anyone get to watch any of the spring practice? How many of the key guys weren't involved due to other sports?
Any updates are appreciated.

Word is the LCC D-line and Head Softball coach, Jay Perkins, will be on the pirates staff next season.

Well knowing nothing about the man, I'm sure he is a talented and qualified person to join the team.
Welcome aboard coach! You are going to have a LOT of talent to work with, including a
6'4 300 lb junior who COULD be great (Barnes), James May, and many others!
Just hope you love the 5-2

Here's all I've got, Preston Dotson won't be playing this year ... I have zero comment on that.
Trenity Carr and Austin Hatfield seem to be your two fullback candidates, no surprise there, right? Lol.

Hear Carr has been an animal in the weight room this offseason..
Shame Dotson won't be suiting up. Kid would have really helped the title run Belfry is gonna make.

Go pirates
04-18-2012, 02:30 PM
Carr has been working out faithfully. The Pirates will be back full force as usual but do have a few spots to fill.
04-18-2012, 10:43 PM
whos going be filling them?
04-19-2012, 12:30 AM
Most significant needs IMO:
FB - Looks like Carr is working hard to get it. But it will take more than being strong. Requires good blocking, effort, hard running, toughness, etc... I doubt it will be decided until week zero.
DE/OLB - to take Gary Runyon's spot. No idea who will step up here, but I hope there is excellent competition for it.
Center - No clue? Someone help out. Have to figure James May at a G. #54 and #57 are returners and should lead. I don't know the underclassmen, but assuming Willis steps up and takes a spot, that leaves one spot for someone to step up.
SS - I wonder if Haywood will move Robinson over to SS and try to fill the FS spot with a newcomer. My intitial thoughts are Dari or Cameron Johnson, but I'm sure others will compete for the spot
WR - My guy tells me Dari/Eli Huddle/Cameron Johnson here. One of the three needs to become a playmaker
NG - Maybe I am optimistic, but I expect Barnes to be a load in this spot next year. Haywood will want a "speed" option against teams that spread it out.
IMO everything else has returners or backups who saw a fair amount of time last year. I for one and looking for a BIG year. Talent is there, just depends on how well Sani Warren can run the show (I think he will do very well) and how good the team gels.

i know Messer will be at one of the ends on defense, and maybe Haywood uses him more down the middle of the field, cause he has gr8 hands...

The vacant De/OlB spot is one I expect to be filled by Trenity Carr. Athletic, getting bigger, he seems like a good fit there. Offensive line will have Taylor, Jude returning and mix in Willis, maybe Barnes, May, Macky Francis, to step in. Sure would be nice to have Preston Dotson, lol. FB needs to be addressed. That's the key!

i know justin will probally be the main hb, has he added anything to his frame this year, so he dont get hurt as much?
04-19-2012, 10:38 PM
justin looks like the incredible hulk has put in lot of time in weight room he will be fine. if he runs the ball like he did last year look out posssible allstate hb i like the way the hb ran the ball especially against the tough teams ashland , breathitt county. sani warren is ready for the quarterback spot and should electricified the fans this year the guy can flat out throw.long story short BELFRY IS DANGEROUS irateSho
04-20-2012, 12:00 AM
Justin's biggest help? New, tighter fitting jerseys. Gonna be harder to tackle his elusive little ass when you can't just grab his shirt!
04-20-2012, 10:11 AM
i agree i just hope they are good uniforms and not the practice type with the holes. belfry deserves better.
04-20-2012, 11:01 PM
dont tell me Belfry getting new uniforms after all these years.

Only a few months away from season...cannot wait. I think Belfry will be solid again and will pick up 10+ wins on a tough schedule. I think overall they'll finish 2nd again in their class, Central will be loaded.

just depends on there line play, cause they had Central beat expect for the big pass play at the end of the game, and its almost going to be same teams expect for 4 players on both sides..i think Sani will be more of running weapon, and if they use Messer down middle of field, that just helps the backs in the long run..

Central always is, but Central on that last drive ran #24 down our throats after we shot down #8 for about 3 quarters, well #24 graduates, so does Ace Wells, and quarterback Tahj Milliken. Offensively Central loses alot, defensively not so much. Let's hope Belfry can fill their gaps better than the Jackets. Sani steps in pretty well at QB. If there's a year to do it, this could be it, if you ask me... or at least I really hope! Lol.

This thread is too quiet, it's only 4 more months. I'm starting to get excited. Tony Messer visited UK over the weekend, good to see a Belfry boy getting a little college love!

Tony is huge, not slow, and naturally mean. Get Arkansas State after him to, this is a kid who deserves to CHOOSE where he wants to go to college to play football. We're at an era where Belfry football should be represented in big time college football, not one guy to UK and the rest to UPike. Sky is the limit for these kids.

I got to see Belfry perform one time last year. I thought they had a balanced attack rushing the ball, I do think replacing Willis will be big, but Johnson IMO was quick and will be a threat again next season. Since you guys are talking college recruiting with this team, what do you think of #71 Michael Barnes? From seeing him last year I thought he was a monster for such a young player. I only saw him once, but he definitely has the size and some skill to possibly get some good D1 looks IMO.
