Robbery in Russell Co

papagrit Wrote:If you all (Knox) take it to Boyle thinking like an underdog and coming out fighting like you did against us at Rockcastle....I'll give Knox a good chance to put one on Boyle. It'll be tough...but I sure give Knox a heck of a chance against Boyle if that is who they wind up playing.

Knox, Russell and Rock are all excellent quality teams with quality coaches. Let's all buckle down kids (and coaches) and show the 5th what the 6th is all about. We know how each can play so let's get after them in 2 weeks. Only wish Rowe was with Rock to make them complete but maybe you guys will rally.......we're behind ya'll!

I don't think either team felt like they would dominate this game. I do think that every team we've played has underestimated our defense, but Knox came ready to play. The fans of both these teams should be extremely proud of what they've done this year, and nothing would make me happier than to see a D6 rematch in the playoffs. But to get to that, these teams need to start focusing on D5 and play like it's a 1-game season every week.

vundy33 Wrote:Yeah really man...Knox Co fans bitch and make excuses more than any other fans I've seen pretty much. You ever think that there is a disparity in the penalties because the other team made less dumb mistakes? Obviously that's what happened...quite a few people have posted in this thread and all have said nearly the same thing, the game was called decently for the most part.

I still say this is just a couple of people from the Panther Nation that are obviously disappointed and looking for something to blame. I would think the majority know that this was just a back and forth game that showed just how competitive this district is. Both teams played great games and Russell just made some plays down the stretch that made the difference. So, I for one am not going to make it sound like this is Knox Central's fans as a whole complaining.

For those few of you who are complaining, show a bit of class for the Panther Nation. I sat there and watched this game along side another Knox Central graduate, and I assure you we both saw and discussed the same bad calls and no-calls. The pass interference call benefited Russell Co and was a bad call, but Knox Central's last score would not have happened if the holds and blocks in the back were called during that drive. In fact, there were three obvious ones on back to back to back plays, none of which were called. I'm sure there were others both ways, that we may have not seen, but you play through it.

Rather than get on here and complain about the officiating it would be nice to discuss the game itself and how proud we are that we had the opportunity to watch two of the better teams in 4A go at it for four quarters with both having an opportunity to win coming down to the wire. This was likely one of the best games of the year, and one of the biggest in both teams histories.

Yes there were some bad calls but Russell County proved that they had a lot of heart to still compete and play really good ball at the end. Russell proved that they would not give up. cudos to Russell

I can't believe others are on here telling some to stop complaining about the refs when they do a lot of that win or lose. Also, what fans think is a block in the back is most of the time not.

If you are referring to my comments after our game with LCC then you know that I wasn't complaining about it in the same way. I said the officiating was horrible for the huge number of no-calls on both sides of the field, and that the players deserved better officiating. I certainly didn't say that it effected the game, in fact I stated that it probably didn't. Here's my posts....read them then go troll elsewhere.:

laker20 Wrote:No disrespect taken, but their replacement QB played a really solid game. He passed the ball extremely well and didn't really make any mistakes. This game was all about D-line from both teams. They didn't allow our run blocking, and we kept constant pressure on their QB. I don't think they had a gain over 3-yards during their first 4 or 5 possessions.

The officiating in this game was bad; really bad. Not so much biased, just horrible officiating....hope they were just having a bad game themselves.

laker20 Wrote:Maybe you should watch it again. I have, and my opinion second time around is the same.

On the LC TD their receiver shoved our corner down in the end zone while the ball was in the air. An obvious Off. Pass Int. On the LC's only drive down field in the 2nd half there should have been a number of holding calls against LC...on one particular pass play one of our lineman slipped on a rush and the LC defender held him down with his hands for a good 4-5 seconds. Then after we held them on that drive we were facing 2nd and long and our QB threw for an incomplete pass and one of LC's lineman took at least 3 steps after the ball left his hand and planted him.....again no call.

I don't think that there were any bad penalties called, there were just a handful of obvious ones that weren't. I don't think it would have made any difference in the game....I just hate when the officiating doesn't match the quality level of the game being played.

laker20 Wrote:I don't disagree that there were probably just as many calls missed against the Lakers. I'm a pretty unbiased person in most respects, but not during the actual game play. I also agree that they can't call everything, but plays like where they late hit our QB when the score is already 33-7 should be made.....no exceptions. That is often what leads to a game getting out of hand. Fortunately, both teams seemed to have been well coached in discipline.

Are you an actual ref? If so dont you have some kind of code that your supposed to stay off social media and sports forum sites?

Most on here don't know the difference between good and bad officiating. They think they do but I doubt many even know what the rule book looks like.

I have stayed off the site intentionally as I do my best to stay positive on here. Anytime you talk about refs you run the risk of simply being chalked up as a sore loser. But if you know me you know that is not how I go about things. Facts. The personal foul that was called on Diamond was a miss. And yes, for the 1 or 2 who don't know it yet - he is my son. A kid comes to block him and he puts him on his can and that costs him a 15 yarder (2nd one in 4 years of starting football). The film tells the story on some of the other calls as well. The personal foul call that made the field goal possible was a miss. 23 was in bounds when he made the hit. The fumble was a terrible miss. 13 was down - that was not a fumble 100%. The penalties on the extra point were wrong. The pass interference call was likely the biggest miss of the night. On the touchdown where 28 swept left for 23 yards our 50 (shirt pulled out 6 inches from pads on film) and 23 (literally was tackled) were held in clear sight - no call. Painful stuff for a team that was trying to make history for their school.

All that said, what does it matter? Did those calls and misses change the outcome of the game? Fact is we will never know but my feeling is they did. Were those guys inaccurate or unethical? Who knows. This has been a hard year for me and refs. I do my best to teach my sons to respect all authority and learn to accept defeat with honor. Losing is a part of life and must be accepted with grace if you are ever to overcome it. This year my son lost 2 games of his senior season to a ref who ejected him with 50 seconds to go in a game that was already decided for FAR less than fighting I assure you. And now he gets the memories of some inaccurate calls that likely cost him and his team a District Title. That is life.

Don't lecture me about how to lose. I have posted 2 times in four years about refs. Our loss to Pulaski 3 years ago and this one. In both cases the film and the statistics tell a clear story. Still, Russell County is a great team with an amazing RB, a top notch secondary, and good fans. I wish them the very best in the playoffs. But to not speak the facts of this game is as big a tragedy as all the people who complain about refs every time they lose. And the film plainly shows that there were several critical calls that likely altered the outcome of this game that simply were wrong.

First off I respect your tone Football1. But you are still seeing the game from a one-sided perspective. I was an unbiased spectator who must say the game was called poorly both ways. I believe if was Knox's last touchdown, the reciever who scored was clearly offsides, which allowed him to easily get open. Also, much of the second half showed KC line holding just as much as the RC line. Poor officiating both ways. And the personal foul to set up the RC's field goal was called not because of where the hit took place. KC's player clearly hit RC player in bounds, but the call was the KC player attempting to drive the RC player into the bench. All in all in was officiated very poorly both ways. I, in no way believe that you can honestly say that the officiating determined the outcome of that game. And like I said, I respect your tone football1, but must 100% disagree. Nick Britt for the Lakers seemed to be two steps fresher than anyone for KC in the fourth. First off, he is naturally one step faster, but was in much better shape as well. Heck of a game by two great teams. Good luck to both in the playoffs!

I respect your views and your post but I'm sorry to say, I saw this one different football1, granted I haven't seen a replay because I was in such a hurry to get to the field early to visit some of the panther fans that I forgot to set the DVR. So, everything I mentioned was from off the top of my head. I recall 2 personal fouls, 1 where one of our players was hit well after the whistle and 1 where our player was hit out of bounds. On the out of bounds our player was a good yard out, and yes the KC player was still in. The pass interference call was just flat a horrible call. The fumble was a strip that occurred after the player had been stopped but was still on his feet and prior to the whistle. It could have been called either way, but I felt it was a fumble. And I've already stated that there were numerous holds and blocks in the back against KC that weren't called, and that there were probably several that could have been called against us that weren't.

I simply saw this game as an exciting back and forth game where both teams were giving it everything. Other than the pass interference call I didn't see anything that major other than the no-calls, and I sat and watched most of the game with a KC football alum who was there for and cheering for the panthers.

Nonetheless, your opinion on the officiating bares more weight to me than posts from those who started this thread in the manner they did and I wish I had the opportunity to see this game on tape. As I've said before, I wish the Panthers the best and hope they go and Do Work at Boyle Co.

Thanks. You are always a class act. My opinion of the poor officiating does not change the fact that RC is a quality team who I hope has a great run in the playoffs. It is very unlikely KC will get to face RC again, but I hope we do. I think that would be a Regional Final.

As are you. There's an outside chance that we could see some rematches. I hope one of our districts teams make some waves in the playoffs. I think we all have great, young teams with fan bases that will follow them as far as they can go. I have to say, we've never had more opposing team fans than we did this past Friday. The Panther Nation supports it's team as well as anyone. Good luck to the panthers and I hope to see #50 playing on Saturdays next year.

I appreciate your perspective but I stand by my opinion. I know that does not change the fact that this game will be a loss for KC from now on. Russell County can paint another year on their sign as District Champs and KC will continue their hunt for their 1st. But I honestly believe this game was altered by poor officiating at best and flat out cheating at worst. Sad.

Well put Football1, we battled stardust over the idea of 2 game ejections. Respect your opinion on this one as I also watched film from 2 sources and 3 angles but, most of calls you refer to were not that clear and judgement calls on the refs part, even in watching all the film angles. I also had a son playing in game and enjoyed the respect showed by fans on both sides. How is your son doing?

Great to see you another thread. Codi is fine. Mild concussion and nothing more. Back in action either this Friday or next.

I'm the first to admit that it is tough to be unbiased when you have a kid playing. And maybe I'm not. But the fumble, the unsportsmanlike to give them a 1st down which gave them a field goal, and the no call on the tackle hold when the scored were just too clear for me not to question.

At this point it is all a mute point. Refs are independent contractors who frankly are not accountable to anyone for missed calls whether it be from an honest error or the vilest of motives. I have no idea why things went so poorly from an officiating stance in this game. But as others have said, we could have found a way to win this game - but we didn't. As such Russell gets to add another year to their banner...for that - Congrats and best wishes to Britt and crew in the playoffs!

He was addled and emotional about the game and probably hyperventalated a bit. Once he got settled down it was just a throbbing headache. He likely will sit out this week and be ready to roll against Boyle.

Good news on your son.....be proud of him as you deserve to be because he is a manchild. We enjoy his gifts and talents. Reguardless of all, the game was still as exciting a game as one could watch on a friday night. Thanks to the kids for such a game and thanks to the cordial fans on both sides.

I have to say, I've enjoyed the move. I have a great deal of respect for the players, coaches, and fans of all of these teams and that's something I'm ashamed to say I didn't have in our old district. I'd love to see Coach Roark get Clay Co going by next season, because I have a feeling that this district is going to be even tougher next year.

laker20 Wrote:Knox had two personal fouls (each were easy calls) and should have possibly had a 3rd.

They had two pass interference calls. One was a blown call where Russell Co's player slipped on a cut and went under the KC defender. The other was an intentional grab by the KC defender, which was a great play because it saved a TD catch.

They had an offsides and a delay of game...both were must calls

So there is 70 of the 90, not sure what the other 20 were from off the top of my head.

The Lakers were called for offsides and a false start. Our players have had relatively low penalties all year because there taught discipline. If you notice we don't hit players out of bounds and we stop once plays are blown dead. You might also notice that between the play our guys help the other teams players off the ground and tell them when they made a good play. It's the Laker way.

Like I said, let's wait for some of the more realistic and knowledgeable Panther fans to weigh in.

Just sayin....

Idk about this, my mother lived in russel county for a while. I attended quite a few football and basketball games there and aloot of the time there was bad sportsmanship from the lakers, when they played adair county in basketball it got ugly lol

I did not see this game, but would like to say that bad refs should be called out. Believe it or not ref do cheat for teams at times.(not sure why) Look at the Belfry Pcc game thread pics posted show why ref should be called out. You may not know this but PCC player punched a Belfry player in front of ref and he failed to do his job. Report is kid has broken nose cracked cheek and stitches in his mouth. A kid is now hurt out for three weeks all because refs never took control of the game, and let PCC get away with a lot of dirty play. Belfry won easy so im not crying about refs cheating Belfry making them loose, but instead I am sayin refs need to call a fair game to protect our kids. TongueirateSho

Adair Co has been the exception because they are our biggest rival. For several years it was very hostile environment when these two teams played.....kind of like Bell - Middlesboro or Whitley - Corbin. However, for the past several years it hasn't been that way. I think social networks like facebook, etc have changed some of these close town rivalries. Most of the players know each other and get along really well. So, it tends to keep the tempers in check a bit more.

Got a job, work 6-days a week, 52-weeks a year. Unfortunately, there just aren't many Laker supporters on the site. So, if you are going to read about Russell Co there's a good chance that Laker20 will be the one saying it or will be commenting on it. Just the way it is.

There is no reason to blame the refs, In this game if we play our best ball then there would be no doubt that the outcome would have been different. We just got out played and my hats off to the Lakers.

Consider this. Blaming refs for a loss and pointing out obvious places where they missed calls that likely altered the outcome of the game are different. I, like any decent sports fan, get tired of every time a team loses the fingers get pointed to refs. But this fan is not guilty of that. PCC beat us passing the ball. HC simply beat us running the ball and stopping our offense. Period.

No matter how much it bothers anyone from Knox or Russell - the hard facts are there were calls made in this game that were WRONG that likely altered the game. To not call it out when it actually happens is just as bad as those who cry wolfe each time they lose.

Boo hoo, cry me a river! Fans are fans for a reason. Refs are there because they love the game. They don't just show up on a random Friday night and ref a game. You "fans" can keep screaming and yelling and they will keep making it able for the boys to play the greatest game of all.
