Who are the two coaches that have been showing up for weight lifting?

Kidd, Po, Sizemore, and Welch are there everyday.

Let me say this Change starts at the top before results are made. Schedule looks good for a 2A school and it may save some jobs. On our way to Corbin. Have to do what is best for kids.

I don't have a problem with South's schedule, you have to be build interest in the team somehow, playing nobody's for a few years worked for Knox Central and Clay County.

Mountain Coach Wrote:LOL. Didnt Justin Haddix get the Perry County Central Head job after 1 year of coaching exp and they won 8 games to your 0 last year. I do beleive Coach Jay Gray was the passing game coordinator. From what I have HEARD, their are some coaches who want him there, and some who don't. Only because there role is gonna change. Knowing Jay Gray I know he is an exciting young talent. He will be a great coach. Dont see where a 0-10 season and 4-7 says you keep anyone you have? Also before you attack someone personally just know that Coach Jay Gray would crush you. 4 years in Ranger Batt means when he wakes in the morning he is already better than you. I hope he doesnt go to SL, We will take him in a second.
Haddix inherited a team with HUGE talent on offense and maybe the best linebacker in eastern kentucky. They also had a SOFT schedule including casey and knott count. They played 8 games at home too. All that helps.

Heard on the radio that North & South Laurel are hosting a 2nd Annual Laurel County Weight Meet this Saturday March 12 at North Laurel Gym. Interested to see how these two do at the meet. Anyone know who are some teams that are going to it?

That's what I am wondering, it's been awfully quiet on here for a few days. Anybody new out in pads any coaching changes? anything?

Heard from a player that South did shuffle some of their coaches responsibilities around, one of the assistants has been running the defense and that gray would indeed be coming to South. But they is coming from a kid so who knows.

Heard Harlan was huge at the meet. Pretty much a sure bet at the Region. Amazing that Estill was that strong. Good to see one of the Local schools in the top 3.

Justin Gray will make a difference for South Laurel. He will be there only if he is not named as Head Coach somewhere else in a couple of weeks!!! Coach Gray is the hottest ticket on the market right now!!!
03-21-2011, 12:42 AM
I don't think he has the credentials to be a HC just yet. I'm very surprised that South is going to hire him as OC just based on his experience. He might be great but just saying he hasn't proved anything yet. What is he certified in?

Who is running the defense right now? I thought Coach Welsh did that?

One thing I notice on here is the rate at which coaches are hired/fired in Laurel Co. If you look at any good program, they have consistent staffs who coach together for long periods of time and they dont fire/hire based on what happens in 1 or 2 years. as long as there is no consistency you will never succeed. Too much change is not good.

I am not critcizing the guy. I don't even know him, but to annoint him the hottest ticket around? Come on. What has he done? Seriously, all this does is set him up to be a huge disappointment if things don't work out.
03-21-2011, 09:33 AM
Is he going to be the head coach next year?
Iis there a lot of support in laurel co for sports?

If there is any school that would hire a guy with virtually no experience it would be Laurel, but I think it's just in an OC role.

Hottest ticket on the market? He should have no problem getting a job. Everybody will be wanting him.

You are exactly right Former.
Im sure SLHS Card knows this, but Laurel county is all about the POLITICS.
Its why they cant keep a good coach. I know personally that its completely up to the parents, one of the down falls to having wealthy contributors to the program.
If the administration would get on the right track and leave it up to the coach theyd be much better off.
Ive seen many times where a much better athlete was passed up on for a horrible kid because of parent and politics.
The first thing they need to do is have 2 DIFFERENT Athletic Directors.
The fact that the same guy is the AD for both schools is ridicolous even if its the same publice school.
This has worked in souths favorite a lot over the years and North usually gets the shaft when it comes to sports. Now that all the talent has cleared out of the from the early 2000's, they have no where to turn.
A lot of things need to change because if not, and Welch tried to do something on his own, theyll have another new coach at South next year.
03-23-2011, 11:04 AM
1 AD for both schools, that is absurd.
I doubt Coach Chris Larkey plays politics at NL, I am sure he plays the best players, at least that is how they always did in rockcastle.
There is politics in every county.

They do not have the same AD at both schools. They may have a county wide athletic director but the schools have their own AD.

PBR Wrote:They do not have the same AD at both schools. They may have a county wide athletic director but the schools have their own AD.
Your right they do have an athletic director at both schools, Keith Gilbert at South and Jimmy Durham at North, but Randy Leger is the director of athletics and is who does most of the decision making.
Larkey has done a good job at North at playing the best players, however, the last few years there has not been much to choose from. Also, i was referring mostly to south in regards to politics.
If you live around this area, which you may, you know as well as i do that many parents wont even let their kids play sports because of the favoritism shown.
Welch is in their and that how hes kept his job even after a dismal 0-10 season.
South should be one of the premeir jobs in the mountains as London is the best recreational town in the mountains and has the best economy as well as the largest population.
Its just the way laurel county has been and always will be.
