Highlands 2011
#61
If thinking Highlands will whip Johnson Central convincingly the next three to four years means I'm smug and arrogant, then I'm smug an arrogant. For the next three years, Highlands has as much talent as they've ever had at any given time IMO.

Yeah and the Cincy X fans thought they'd whip Highlands in 09 too. Not only were they smug and arrogant, they proved to be stupid too. Some Highlands fans thought we'd whip Ryle the second time we played them last year. Not only were those fans smug and arrogant, they proved to be stupid too. See

Fact is, as high of the level of talent on Highlands team the next three years may be, neither you nor I can have a certain idea as to what the talent will be at Johnson Central for each of the next 3 years.

I agree with you that the talent level at Highlands will be very high the next three years. The highest ever? I don't know if I agree with that. The 3 classes on the 07 team were pretty darn stacked. You had two of those classes go undefeated their senior years and the other class went 14-1 with the only loss to Colerain. If the next three years compile a 44-1 record, we'll talk. I hope you are right by the way, but it's way too early to make such bombastic comments.

You're correct. It may be too early. But I enjoy making J.C. think about what lies ahead. It wears on them.

So, I guess an official respose would probably be along the lines of, Based solely on this particular post, while I once probably would have (when it came to yourself), bottom line I guess," I really dont" would be a correct assessment on your part.

Perhaps when it all comes right down to it, maybe there has been an incorrect evaluation from this end. Some of those we revere, may not be quite as we assumed. Sometimes it happens. However, I will afford you this. There is no doubt that HHS is in a class by themselves. Year end results have certainly demonstrated that fact over a very long period of time. Anyways Chuck, good luck on reeling in #21 next year. You should be an overwhelming favorite.

It's the same ole' song and dance. When will it end? Ah, the typical scenario of a JC fan posting an inflammatory comment, a Highlands fan responding, and the typical end result of grown men arguing back and forth. :flush:

Anyone know how the districts are matched up for 4A playoffs this year?
It would be a shame if Boyle and Highlands are on the same side.
Classic state match-up.

I think the Rebels and Birds are on the Easern Side together. They (and/or Lex Cath) would have to meet in the Semi-finals.

What class will Highlands play in? 4A or 5A?

Highlands has been moved to 4A starting this year (2011).

So would this mean that Highlands vs JC would be R3 if both are victorious and No 1s? What notable teams are on the other side of the bracket (State Match-up)?

Seems like our side of the bracket is stacked (HHS, Boyle, JC, LexCath, CovCath, Bell?)

District 6 - Clay County, Knox Central, Rockcastle County, Russell County
District 7 - Covington Catholic, Harrison County, Highlands, Holmes, Pendleton County

Here's the playoff pairings information (from the KHSAA website which I think is current but can't say for sure):

I think Holmes will be in over their heads next year, do not expect them to make much noise. It will be interesting to see what Cov Cath does next year. Not much talk about them, but I think they are going to be better.
Oops, I mentioned somebody besides Highlands in a Highlands thread, I hope Adoptedpurple doesn't think it should be deleted!

So, if I read this correctly, and if Highlands is the number 1 in Class 4A District 7, and are fortunate enough to be in the region 4 finals, they will play at home. Then, if they can win that game, they would be on the road at the region 3 winner's field in the state semifinals.

Where are the finals in 2011?

Will current HHS junior WR Beau McGhee figure to see a lot of playing time next year? It sounds like HHS will likely have some depth at the WR position in 2011.

Also, who will be playing TE for Highlands this year? I think last year's starter, McGurn, returns. Will the TEs be used primarily for blocking or will they be used a receivers more in 2011?

McGurn will return as the probable starter. There are two soph TEs that are pretty good though. True and Hope. Dont know what sophs are D and which are O yet though. True would probably be more of a blocking TE. McGurn more of a receiver.

As for WRs Sheehan will def be a starter and the go-to-guy for Towles. They've been playing pitch and catch since Gold Team. Beau McGhee will def be in the mix. There are a couple younger guys that have some talent though... Christian (JR i think) is a big body with good hands and athleticism. I would pick him to have a break out season this year catching the ball.
#78
oh, and I almost forgot. This year will be the debut of Jack Collinsworth (JR injured last year)at WR. He should really be in the mix for that second spot. It might be better to have Collinsworth split wide and have Sheehan at the slot. That would be a big problem for defenses.
#79
Its pretty much the same for JC and Highlands as far as where they have met in the past couple of years. If Both keep winning they will meet in the region championship just as in years past.
#80
what is the secondary going to look like this year? we all know Bruns will be a force and Carter New held his ground last year as a JR. With Abner and Siedl leaving. Who are the other guys that will have to step up? Murray? Maybe Ben Streeter needs to switch to D. Jake Meyer? Drew Hueliston is a soph-to-be that will be a fierce safety some day. Jalen Hayes- probably will be on O, but he could start in the secondary this year.

birdman44 Wrote:That is a ridiculous statement. You cant post stuff drunk or you will look like a fool. SK has never beatn Highlands and never will.

The best SK year of all time was Miles Simpson SR yr. This same year Highlands dominated Cincinnati St. X, beat Ryle twice (both times by 20+ points), and won state undefeated. This same year SK got owned by Ryle by over 20 points.

Now you seriously believe that SK could beat Highlands that year? (2009)

Some year off in the distant future maybe SK will get one from Highlands but first they have to get the guts to schedule them. Highlands has never lost to SK and has always had a better team.

Talk about posting stuff drunk and looking foolish? The best years of SK were the last three years. And the year you say was the best SK never got owned by Ryle when Miles was a senior. Thats the year SK went to the regional finals and lost to X in Louisville. The year before that SK went all the way to the state finals. And this past season we faced Ryle in the regional finals and lost to them. So before you post drunk again check your facts please. As a matter of fact I can tell you that we owned Ryle the 2009 season that you speak of. It was a cold, wet, rainy night at SK and was televised on FOX Sports Ohio. I still have the DVD if you would like to watch and refresh your memory?

McGurn will be a SR and he looks good in the weight room from what I hear. I would imagine he would be in there for blocking purposes but he can also run the football with great speed. He really has packed on some big time muscle

Dont get me wrong, nothing in sports is impossible, but to say that Simon Kenton would have beaten highlands the last three years is a bit of a stretch. I mean sure, I could see maybe a miracle upset in one of those 3 games. But to say you would actually win all 3???? HAHAHA. Just be happy if you could play em close in the first half.

Yes i too was drunk and foolish... I did make a mistake about Ryle vs SK in 09' (the best SK year ever, that ended in a loss like every other SK year).
But, in no way was i as drunk or foolish as saying that SK would have beat HHS any three years in a row in football ever. The pioneers have def become a real football team finally. They had some freaky talent in the past 3 years. The best they could have done against Highlands in the past 3 years would be a close loss.
Highlands team speed, blocking and tackling is second to none in No. Ky. FACT.
HHS easily shuts down teams that have 2 or 3 gifted standouts. pinning the game on the rest of the team that is usually slow and mediocre compared to them 'birds.
It's what happens when you dont have a football offseason, and you condition and practice 6 times more and harder than any other team.

After 2 days of spring practice the Birds look strong. Less than one week removed from basketball, Patrick Towles is already throwing 60 yard lasers on a dime to Sheehan. Former back up QB McCoy is taking snaps at slot receiver. The offense is going to put up ridiculous numbers in 2011.

I was up there on Tuesday and can confirm what you posted about Towles. His arm looked strong and accurate. If Turner again works his magic, and I have no reason to think he won't, the Birds should be exceptional on O. And that D is going to be flat out wicked.
#89
Sheehan to me looks the most improved to this point. He's gotten bigger and his hands seem to be stronger. When you couple that with a 4.5 the skys the limit for this young man. You might even hear Towles say "Run Ozzie run." Brad Rouse has really gotten a lot bigger and looked good at the safety position. Typically there are a few players each year that you really notice a difference in size from the previous year. This year there seems to be a lot more. David Christian is really doing well and and will catch a lot of (varsity only) passes this year. Certainly this team may not go 15-0, but if they did, it would not be shocking. Boyle County and Elder probably have the best chance of preventing this from happening.
#90
Highlands by 4-6 TD's over Boyle.
