Russell @ Belfry 11/19
#91
I have to take the Pirates by 14; however, they have to hang onto the ball or this one gets interestings. I guess just having a Belfry and Russell game is interesting as always. I hope all Russell Fans have a safe trip to the CAM.
Welcome to the best site in town! If you need anything, just let me know.

I think belfrys O line is too good..belfry will win this game to go play somerset..but if russell can force turnovers..and play keep away, i think things will get very interesting. I played against russell..and i watched against belfry ( knee surgery ) i was more impressed with belfry, alot faster but russell has some VERY VERY good player DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS TEAM LIKE WE DID! or they will come out and let you have it.
#93
anybody know if any starters are out for either in this one?
#94
I'm really looking forward to seeing this game. Alot of history between the two teams.

This matchup makes for a great game. with both teams being physical running teams the offensive and defensive lines will need to step up for both teams.

I believe that Russell's QB #20 will be the difference in the game. this kid is really athletic throws the ball well but is most dangerous with his feet.

I think Belfry will take this, if the game were anywhere else I would think it would be closer, but the CAM is an amazing place.

When the school district first came about way back when, the team had new uniforms ordered. We were already the Russell Red Devils but that was before technology. The uniform company sent maroon instead of red, and with money as scarce as it was way back when, they kept the color. Pretty cool story I think.
If the game was to be played on here Russell has already lost hands down. It will be interesting to see on friday why many feel Belfry is so much better than Russell. I feel this game will be very close and will be decided in the last few minutes.

Predictions on this forum are posters opinions, nothing more, nothing less. Games are won on the playing field.

I think the opinions are based upon which fan base posts the largest amount of comments and predictions.

I have no dog in the fight, but would like to see Russell pull an upset this Friday night. (An upset according to the poll on this forum) Belfry has a very strong tradition and usually has extremely good teams, and definitely have had their share of District and Region wins. So hopefully we'll see a "new face come Friday night!"

A bit of a back-handed compliment to Russell although it was unintentional.

I hear in the spirit of our beloved Devil fans Jeepman and FBALL... Rusell has officially changed their mascot for the remainder of this season from " Russell Red Devils" to the "Russell Rodney Dangerfield's"

Most definitely unintentional. Russell has my respect, for any team that gets to the third round in the playoffs should be respected.

Many years ago when my mother went to Belfry (she is 83) it was also maroon.. How many Pirate faithful knew that?TongueirateSho
TongueirateShoMy mother had yearbooks from 1947 and later and most of the 60's and 70's, I have seen the maroon on Belfry with my own eyes...

Ok folks by show of hands who's going to this game?

I'll be there early grubbin' on some good Belfry tailgate food if anyone wants to stop by and introduce themselves. (as if anyone actually wants to meet me)

I won't be hard to find. Big guy wearing an 06 Russell lettermans jacket (that belongs to my son) with 53 inside the football on the back.

If ya wanna say hello shoot me a PM or a text to 606-923-3821
To FBall and company:

I think the reason some are favoring Belfry is by viewing the Russell schedule and results from this season. The very close victory to West Carter at home. The two td loss to Mason. The romp Ashland put on Russell when Belfry competed with them. The losses to Greenup and Raceland. Even the unimpressive victory over Boyd Co., and etc.

All that said.. I certainly respect the Devils. They are very well coached, come into this game playing their best football, and they always seem to have a team that matches up well against a running football team.

I think it will be close. But I will also favor Belfry by 1 score at home. I'll be there Friday and look forward to a great game!

GO PIRATES!
To add to the thread. If a poster from each school could list the starting lineups for the teams with class, size, #, etc that would be awesome. Top reserves too.

Example

Belfry

QB Tyler Williams #4 JR 6'0 175 lbs

What time does the tailgating start, so I can try and make it. What I was referring to about the concession stand was the last time I was there it was so crowded at the concession stand at half-time that when I finally got my food it was almost half way through the 3rd quarter, that's all. I really love the stadium and I'm planning on being there this friday. GOOD LUCK to both teams and can't wait to get there to watch a good game.

GO PIRATES!
Good Points.

Counter Points though. Belfry did lose to Sheldon Clark 22-6. Johnson Central Put it on Belfry almost as Badly as Ashland put it on Russell.

West Carter - Russell did win a close game with West. The Devils did run the ball for over 300 yards against the Comets. Fumbles and more so penalties kept the game closer than it should have been. Also not making an excuse for West but when Belfry beat them they lost Cline on the first series of the game. He is their playmaker.

Mason County - An onside kick to start the second half turned the momentum to Mason County. Momentum that they took advantage of. Again Mason loses their top offensive playmaker and leader in the first quarter against Belfry. Thats a big advantage for the Pirates.

Ashland and Raceland there were no excuses for. Ashland Jumped on them early and being honest it looked like Russell just layed down after that. Belfry didn't have alot of success against the Tomcats either. They still lost by 2 TDs.

Raceland was a game that I think Russell should have won by 3-4 TDs. IMO that was a coaching victory for Raceland in that Russell allowed them to just pick apart a soft zone defense instead of putting heat on the opponent.

Greenup was not a bad team. 4 interceptions in the red zone tells you all you need to know.

Boyd County was a coast game to be honest. How bad do you want it to be.

Both teams are really pretty similar in that they both improved and seem to be playing their best in the playoffs. Should be intersting Friday night.

"No respect"

I don't think it was back handed. Its just a fact that many from the mountains are more familier with Belfry's history than they are with Russell's.

In all honesty they are about even historically speaking. Both have 300 win coaches. Both have been very good consistantly for a long time.

Russell
2 State Championships
1 State Runner up
10 Regional Championships
18 District Championships

I think Both of these schools expect to be playing this far in the playoffs.

And lets not forget that they were both in the same district for a good number of years when only the district champ went to the playoffs. Those were some real battles as well.

Russell leads the series with Belfry 12-9.
Good points FBALL (as usual), also don't forget about BOTH of these programs, neither one is a FLASHY team, all they do is line it up and play SMASHMOUTH football, it's LET'S LINE-UP-AND-RUN-IT-DOWN-YOUR-THROAT type football. Both COACHES know each other well enough that it's going to be that kind of game. And that's what makes this game so great. GOOD LUCK to both teams.
