I dont think this game is important because the winner of Pulaski Co. and Harlan Co. will be playing for the state championship.

Oh, I see. Well I guess we should try to get the message out to both JC and HHS to not even waste their time playing this. This will save a whole weeks worth of bantering back and forth. Thanks :eyeroll:

This just in: Birds will go on the offensive friday night. Word is they're code is "mountain storm" for their assault. Rumor is the offensive battle will start friday night sometime around 7:30 with a ground attack followed by an aerial offensive like the world has never seen. The Birds will leave the town in ruins. Towles, Mccoy, Gold, Seidl, Abner and Co. will return to a ticker tape parade and Highland pride will continue thru December.....Birds Defense: Ready .....All systems go.:flame::redboxer:

Congrats to both teams and can not wait to get to game

One way that JC could help theirselves in this game would be to make the stadium a completely intimidating atmosphere. NOT LOUD but INTIMIDATING. Nothing like going into an intimidating atmosphere and having to try and play in an intense game in any sport. The fans could have a real effect on this game if they did it right.

:eyeroll:What do they have to imtimidate with? Attitude? Bad music? Are they gonna sic that fat deputy on us again? Really helps to have a history of winning, maybe a championship or two.

Of course if a key player goes out of the Highlands game early you will read the "what if" posts. All I am saying is that I want to see JC beat a healthy Highlands team so that we do not need to read such posts. If Jude or Hall go out early with an injury, it is unlikely JC will win the game because they are so integral to the JC offense and defense.
In 2006, Blake Johnson was eating up 5, 6 or more yards on every carry and JC was driving deep in CovCath territory down by one score. His injury hurt the Golden Eagles on both sides of the line. I think that CovCath would have won that game anyway but the margin would probably have been much closer with him in the lineup for four quarters. Johnson Central lost a playoff game in similar fashion to Bell County back in the Musick era when its stud fullback/linebacker was injured very late in the game (I believe it was Bowling). Without him, the JC defense could no longer slow down the Bobcats' ground game and Bell came from behind to win the game.
Injuries are part of the game and they do have a big impact on outcomes. I want to see a healthy Johnson Central team beat a healthy Highlands team and leave no doubt which was the better team this season. If the better team turns out to be Highlands, then I will wish them well with the rest of their season. I never like to see a game determined by injuries or blown calls.
Fair enough. I must have misinterpreted your post. I thought this part of your post that I quoted "and listen to the excuses for the loss" seemed to be implying that if Highlands lost and if Towles doesn't play and if a Highlands poster pointed that the outcome could have been different if Towles had played, you were going to say we were only making excuses.

Cov Cath gave up 60 to Ryle and 50+ to St. X. I hardly think they're run defense is on the level of Highlands. Ryle only put 28 on a badly bruised Bird team. Just something to think about:eyeroll:

Only if the alcohol is flowing from the trunks of your cars again like it was in '08. Not that I mind, I enjoy tailgating myself, but it somehow seemed to filter into the locker room that HHS used after the game also.

im so excited to listen to this game and im not a jc fan but im definately behind them in this one.... the rivalry between these teams reminds me of the rivalry between hazard and highlands in the 60's and 70's, some legendary games were played then just like the one this friday night will be.

Nah, he was mad because people were trying to watch the game from the end zone track. Chased everyone, which was fine, but as the crowd was walking off he said "And I hope your team loses, too!" or something to that effect. Good for a laugh, but little else.:please:

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Highlands 1st and 2nd string RB's sit out the cov cath game? If I have the wrong game, which one was it? What would JC have done with their 1st and 2nd string RB's out?

Why would Highlands sit out their first and second string running backs against a district opponent, especially following an open date?
Corey Compton, Jordan Streeter, Jake True, Daniel Gold, and Patrick Towles combined to rush for 130 yards against CovCath. Who sat out?

The key to this game in my opinion will be the play of Highlands D line. The last two years, Highlands has gotten some outstanding play out of its D line. This year Highlands D line has looked vulnerable at times. If they don't come up big in this game, JC is going to score a lot of points. If the JC runners can consistently make it to the second level before being hit, it will be a long night for the Highlands Lbers and secondary and make for a very sore weekend.

Compton had some nice runs in the first half; sat out the second half against CovCath. Streeter, True and Towles played the entire game I believe. The strength of Highlands O this year is not running the ball, so I'm not surprised with the lack of rushing yards against CovCath (or any other team).

Would that be because they will host the state semi-final? Or because objectively specaking you believe they have the talent to beat either JC or HHS?

While I generally tend to cheer for Highlands as they are in my alma mater's district (Scott High School), the Birds play against Dixie worries me and Jude worries me more at this point.
I feel like this Highlands team is only an "average" Highlands team if you compare them with past teams.
With that being said, I'll pick Johnson Central in the upset...
Johnson Central 35
Highlands 28
