Who cares... goes back to the same point... I think that you beat every team you play as bad as you can. You make them dread playing you year in and year out. On down years, many times there dreading to play you may allow you to sneak by with a win.
JJ has the record, deserves the record and competed to get it. Great job JJ and great job to the staff at JC.

I totally agree with that statement. Maybe that's why Highlands will pound Johnson Central again.

He (the coach) can't have it both ways I remember last year after a 49 to 7 loss to Boyle Co. in post game talk complaining about Boyle running up the score for thowing in long yardage situations late in the game. My point being if you are going to run up scores on teams don't complain about someone running the score up on you.

Davenport in most games he would break state record every friday. And that goes the same for most of our backs. I am sure if they had the touches that Mr. Jude gets they would break the state record. But at Bell County we are focused on winning games, not breaking state records. We are more of a team rather than a great player.
There is no doubt in anyone's mine that JJ is a tremendous athlete and a great running back. Scary thing is the fact that he is only a Junior. He will be returning next year for Coach Matney. You also bring up the fact that JJ is tremendous wrestler for Coach Matney on his wrestling team. Which blows my mind even more in the fact that he would leave his star running back and best player and a great wrestler on his wrestling team in a game for the selfish reason of breaking a record. I do applaud JJ on his effort and yes he does deserve a reward and accomplishment for his achievements. But this reward should not come in a slop game, against a less than average team. When your team is up by 40+ at half time and you already have 300 yards it is time to call it a night, which is what most coaches with class do. Take coach hilton for example we were up big at halftime and he let every starter, both offense and defense leave their helmets and shoulder pads in the locker room.
Yeah that sounds classy..:please: congrats jj :1::rockon:

He may have 1600 yard but it's come against teams with a combined record of 26-39. You look at the teams JC has played against this year and compare that to East Jessamine. There's no teams like Spencer County,Madison Southern, or Owen County on JC's schedule.

Maybe they should have pulled him earlier since they were playing such weak teams. And yes thats sarcasm. I would hate to go through an entire season and only play in half the game minutes.

I think everyone needs to take their blinders off. Not once on this thread has anyone said anything negative about Jude. He obviously had a wonderful night and I hope he remembers it for the rest of his. All the negative talk has been directed at the coaches questionable decisions. If all accounts are accurate then their is no excuse for these actions.

Anybody who knows anything about football knows the kid should not have been in the game after the outcome was no longer in doubt. Like many on here have said, there are plenty of backs every single week who could rush for this many yards in a game if their coach let them play all 4 quarters in a rout.
By all accounts, great kid.
By all accounts of people who don't have a dog in the fight, stupid coach.

That is so true, but that also includes not allowing them to score ( by not making an attempt to tackle the opponent - which is as I understand it what happened) is also a part of that.
Really for me that is the only part of this story that bothers me.
I really don't care if he kept his ones in all game, and I don't care who you set the record against it is still a record and his accomplishments are huge.
I just wish it had happened in the natural course of the game. Unless I am wrong about the whole allowing Woodford to score so the score wouldn't reach a running clock.... am I?

The video is on IHigh.
There were 2 things I saw along those lines.
1) After a long run to inside the 10, late in the game, JC kicks a Field Goal on first and goal.
2) On the mentioned KO return, the coverage team are all young linemen who run in mass towards the ball (well, really they run as hard as they can but are slower than most little league teams I've seen) and when the return man breaks to the outside the only one who can get him is the kicker who runs off the field so fast he gets to the Woodford Sideline faster than the KO returner. No one seems upset they gave up a long return.
3) The starting offensive line is in the whole game. Couple that with the starting QB who is limping badly throughout the last half of the 4th Quarter. When Jude makes his final carry he literally can't get up for a while. When he does he staggers to the corner beyond the end zone (opposite his home bench side) and disappears. (One of the announcers says he was throwing up)

Woodford closed the gap as much as JC coaches wanted them to close the gap. It would be hard to rack up all those yards with a running clock.

I disagree. JC was subing in the first quarter. This JC team is not as deep as some teams and has alot of young guys playing. When JC starts subbing they loose alot quick. Woodford left their starters in the whole game and Matney had to make sure he did not let Woodford back in it the game. JJ was stopped cold on alot of plays. He did not have a cakewalk, he earned every yard.
The glasses of jelousy need to come off some of the posters here, you are just envious of how far the JC program has come and of JJ. Some schools win by scores of 70 to 7 and yet we did something wrong?
JJ has conformation here, if all the complaining losers on here think Mateny did wrong and that JJ's record is tarnised, it must be a good thing because I do not see any hint of intelligence or sportsmanship in thi thread!

I saw JC subbing on defense the whole game after the first quarter. Where they never subbed was on offense.
JJ should be applauded for what he did on the field. He is/was a warrior without doubt and he pushed himself as far as anyone can in a game.
The score has never been part of the debate in my mind. My questions/issues were raised in my previous post and I won't restate them here.
Again, congrats to JJ Jude and his line.

Ive seen intelligent posts from people that say that he shouldnt have been playing after halftime. It was that team's senior night, and to embarrass them in that fashion is terrible. To say that they had a chance of coming back after the first half and your rb has 300 yards rushing already is an ignorant statement to make. Im happy the boy got the record, but your taking a chance on getting a kid hurt over a game that means nothing. Imagine how bad it would have been if the boy would have got hurt in a game that was already decided. The whole season means more then one record, and JC's season would have been ruined if JJ would have got hurt. Saying his record is tarnished is wrong, because he broke it and thats all that matters. The player that had it before him, broke it against one of the worst teams in the state. If im not mistaken, the team he broke it against didn't win a game that whole season. ? Anyways, congrats to JJ. Goodluck to JC against Montgomery Co friday night! Hope you all get the district title!

People are posting that they are not saying anything about JJ. But when you are a TEAM as close as the JC team is, you might as well be talking about JJ and every other player on the JC team when you talk about Coach Matney. Because they are one and the same.

Records were meant to be broken, i have no problem with leaving this young man in to break this record when it could be done.
This is something he will carry with him for the rest of his life.
I remember back in 2004 Whitley played Knox at Knox and Ladale Rider had almost 400 yards at the half on like 15 carries, which was little carries because over his career he averaged about 35 carries a game as a starter, but in the second half he didnt play, he could have easily broken the record as well but I can see both sides point of view in this. By the way the score of that game was only a 34-6 win for Whitley.
I also remember David Jones from Belfry rushing the ball for like 400 yards in the first half on like 11 carries and they benched him as well, IMHO i say if the kid can break it, let em, but if it detrimental to your team that the player breaking the record doesnt get hurt, which Rider and Jones both were, i can understand benching them because the coaches would never here the end of it if something did happen.
Congrats Jude on your new state record.

I will say this, this time of year your One's have to play at least 3 quarters. Going into the playoffs your kids have to be ready to fight for a whole game. If they have been pulling him at half time all year, I can see leaving them in there to get game work, game shape.
After reading some of the post, which is worse, having the score ran up so much (something like 70-12)where you have a running clock or having a team "allowing" you to stick around so a player can break a record on you? I honestly don't know.....

Sounds like a guy (coach) that really has the best interests of his players in mind. :please: And for those of you that will say the kid didn't want to come out, that's why the coach gets paid...to make those types of decisions. These are kids and sometimes they don't realize what is best for them.
