Belfry, Russell, Breathitt and Hazard.

DevilsWin Wrote:Nice Post AP! I welcome you to BGR as well. I love it and hope you do too!

As for Western Ky schools. I myself would like to see more teams from western Ky in the mid-upper classes compete for the titles. Who is the real deal out west in 3A? Paducah Tilghman or Central (they haven't competed in a long time.)? Is Bowling Green for real? They weren't in 2005.

Many times throughout the season I've looked across the Bluegrass and thought are these teams really any good? Because I don't know, no one on BGR is talking about these teams. I hope you can help change that.

I support Russell and only Russell. You won't see me rooting for anyone else unless I chose them on the Pick 'em.Big Grin

How about a Bowling Green vs Russell game at the Recreation Bowl, whaddaya say? Good luck! :p :turnbad:

I'd say a B.G V Russell game would be a great game. I don't know a lot about Russell only that year in and year out they always seem to be right up there with the big boys and could play with any team in the state. About Bowling green, I think they are a very balanced team. They have a 3 year starter in Quarterback Trent Steelman. He's only about 5' 10 or he could play in college. He has a good arm and has a 6"6 receiver in D.L. Moore and 6"6 tight end Ryan Wallace (the Coaches son ). Between them they have about 20 D-1 offers from the likes of Stanford,Colorado, South Carolina, Kentucky, and many more. Steve Spurrier and some coaches from Colorado were at practice Thursday and at the John Hardin game last Friday night. Their running back / linebacker Jared Carpenter just signed with Northwestern. We have great players at the skill positions and If they play up to their potential I think they will give Highlands all they want. If they make it that far. We have to get by Owensbore this week and they have one of the beat defenses in the state. As for Tilghman and Central I think Central will win that one fairly easily. Tilghman had a weak schedule and Central had a monster schedule. The way Central played Highlands (leading 13-0 going into the fourth quarter) and losing 21-13 tells me Central is the real deal. By the way Warren East is from bowling green and if we both win Friday we will have 2 teams from the same town in the finals. We're trying to do that Danville / Boyle County thing. Maybe someday bowling green will be known as Titletown.

We talk about what we know about, and what is close to us. If we wanted to talk about great high school football teams, we wouldn't be doing much talking about KY teams anyways.

I don't know about that. Kentucky has 2 teams rated in the top 50 nationally (ST.X and Trinity) and Highlands is in the top 100. I think thats pretty good from a little "Basketball State". Football in Kentucky is getting better every year and can compete with the best of them.

I could care less what anyone says about the northern Ky teams or Western, or Central Kentucky teams. I know I stand by our powers here in the mountains, and if I want to brag or compliment or start a thread about a team, then I will. For those complaining, DON'T READ IT. When you see a thread called BELFRY PIRATES or HAZARD BULLDOGS, if it doesn't interest you then don't go in it. It is that simple! I love my EKY teams but I would be careful what I wished for when calling out a team like Bowling Green. I am not saying that a team like Belfry couldn't beat them but they are legit.

Is Moore still commited to Purdue, and is Kentucky still in contact with Wallace?

Uh NO! This is BlueGrassRivals and not Eastern Ky Rivals. We welcome information on any team in the state. Any and all teams from the state of Kentucky are welcome to start discussions about their teams.

There are some on here that need to be a bit more open minded about what is discussed. We want the site to expand to all parts of the state.

 There's nothing wrong with being loyal to your team, but I am not only a fan of Belfry football. I am a fan of football in general. I like hearing about all teams in Kentucky and their accomplishments. I believe that alot of these posters had taken the thread starters post personal. He was simply trying to get a reaction (which he did Smile ). He even came back and posted so and even said he didn't mean any harm. Everyone that has read or posted on this thread needs to understand that this site is for everyone and every team in Kentucky to talk about their teams and athletes. JMHO

Here are some numbers just for conversation, in the past 10 seasons the four teams mentioned( Belfry, Breathitt, Russell, and Hazard) combined record is 386-121 for wpct. of 76.1%. Now the four teams out of Eastern KY. that have been brought up on here(Bowling Green, Lex Cath., Mayfield, and Highlands) combined record of 411-127 for a wpct. of 76.3%... Pretty close if you ask me... Combined record so far this season are like this: EKY-50-2, other teams: 45-7... 3 of the 4 EKY teams are undefeated and still playing for a championship, 3 of the 4 other teams are still in with one team being undefeated...

I don't think Moore has committed to Purdue. I know they were one of the teams that were looking at him. I don't think he has committed yet. I know he and Wallace visited Kentucky and Colorado together but I don't think either has committed yet. I have 2 kids at B.G High so i'll try and find out where they are both leaning towards and let you know. Last I heard was Wallace was leaning towards Kentucky and Moore was leaning towards Purdue but with Spurrier from South Carolina and some coaches from Colorado coming down last week to watch them might make an impression on them.

Tell me your thoughts on how 3A is going to play out? Seems like you know alot about Tilghman & Central..

pardon me for jumping in but if PT should win it would be as big of an upset as they get. Central should win and do so by multiple scores

You are correct. I think Central is a much better team than Tilghman. I think Central will win big and give Breathitt or Belfry all they want. I think it will be Central and Belfry (just my opinion ) in the finals. It will be a great game to watch either way.

No wonder Steve Spurier can't win games. He's over at Bowling Green recruiting.

The only way to expand to other parts of the state is....to get the word out about this site. It appears that most of the posters here are from eastern and northeastern KY. Nothing wrong with that at all. However, don't expect someone from Russell, Pikeville, Ashland, Belfry, etc...to start a thread about Bowling Green, Lone Oak, Trinity, etc, etc. You need individuals from different fan bases to begin expanded discussions. I'm sure that many of the posters here, would love to engage in some intelligent dialogue with different fans, teams, all across the state. But before that can happen, this site needs to grow, expand and excite fans from other teams to visit and post. Don't shoot the ones who are here. They're discussing what's near and dear to their hearts.

I agree with everything you said however, I would expect some fans from Russell, Pikeville, Ashland, etc... to start threads about other teams in the state just out of curiosity if nothing else.

That's a nice thought. However, who are you going to have the discussion with?? If the vast majority of posters are from E KY and N East KY, if I start a thread on Bowling Green, who other than BG fans, graduates or faithful can post anything meaningful?? And if those folks were visiting the site on a regular basis...why aren't they posting themselves?? I don't see Belfry people beginning alot of threads about Hazard or Letcher Co....they usually start threads about Belfry or an upcoming opponent, rival...something that is meaningful to their respective program.

When you don't see threads on Central and Western KY teams....don't you think it's fair to make the determination that very few followers from those respective areas vist this site??

Like I stated....to have MEANINGFUL DISCUSSIONS...not just contrived opinions....you need a broaded fan base.....diversity.... I agree, I would love to see threads about Louisville Central, Paducah Tilghman, Owensboro, etc,etc,.......But until the word gets out....it is what it is.

I agree with what you are saying. I'm on here posting every day and have learned a great deal about eastern kentucky football. I've also had some nice discussions and told people about B.G and a lot of teams in western kentucky. I have told several people about this site and hopefully you will see more people showing up soon. I don't think we're in disagreement here. I do think that until the Calvary arrives the minority has to keep posting so when new people check out the site they will see a wider range of topics that they can comment on for FREE. But since the season is almost over we will probably have to send the Calvary over to the Basketball board,

I agree with your points. Keep plugging at it. That way when some of your friends start signing up they will have some things to discuss as well. I would be interested in learning about some of the other teams and their accomplishments. So I will read anything new for a while to establish some sort of knowledge so I can feel comfortable discussing the team.
