How good is Patrick Towles?
#61
Yea a game that is 14 to 10 in the 4th quarter is not competitive at all. Sacking Jared Lorenzen 5 times in 1 game is not competitive at all. Don't comment on a game that you weren't at. Gino's team beat us 41 to 24 in the regional final my senior year. Do you think that game was competitive?

Your last statement was true and false. We weren't a threat in 98 or 99 because no one in the entire state was as good as Highlands. We were a threat in 98 and 99 especially because The top 4 teams in 3A were all in our district. In 99 we were the second best team in 3A.

We gave Highlands the first game with dumb turnovers and penalties like they needed any help in 99, and lost 24 to 6. They scored off of a pick six by Brett Hamblin and a punt return for a touchdown by Brett Hamblin and a good drive. We went up and down the field only to turn it over or commit a penalty. The 41 to 24 game was 27 to 0 at the half and they returned the second half opening kick for a touchdown. It was 41 to 0 at 1 point. We scored once against their varsity and the rest came against subs. That was the only game I played against Highlands that wasn't competitive. I was in college in 00 but heard it was ugly real fast and some bad blood stirred from that game.

Somebody please give nptb17 a moral victory, he has been begging for one all day on here. :lmao:

No moral victories and no escuses. No lies either which is what wideleft is all about.

Actually npt17. I'll give you that you were good enough to give Highlands their best games in 1999. Fact. I always root for Dixie when they aren't playing Highlands. Hope that makes you feel better. Dixie could have been the 2nd best team in the state that year.

Back to Towles. He has the potential to be as good as Lorenzen and Guidugli.

I think he lead the team as a soph, off the bench, to a championship, and took the team on his shoulders this year back to the title game (and hopefully another title). I think he has already proved to be a very good QB. The kid is only going to get better.

In your mind maybe he has proved to be a very good QB, but I think he can be one of the best if he keeps working hard. Too much praise can work in reverse if he believes he has already reached his potential. Let's let the young mans career play out before we call him one of the best.

Where did you get I said all that? I said he has proven to be a very good QB. I did not say he has reached his potential; in fact I said he can only improve. And I never called him one of the best. However, can you list more than 3 Highlands past QB's who you think will be considered better than him after next year?

I think we both are saying the same thing and want him to continue to improve. Best of luck to Patrick he has had a good year this year and I agree he has basically carried this years team on offense. To answer your question, no I can't name more than three QB's who I would consider better than him after next year. His stats should put him up there at the top of Qb's to play for Highlands.

Towels is great and proved in a convincing fashion with a 50-0 win and being MVP of game!

5 TDs in the state final, 167 yds rushing on 20 carriies. He will be in the conversation next yr for player of the year!

Wow, that is an impressive stat line for any game much less the state finals. Sounds like he WILL BE the conversation next year.

nptb17 Wrote:Towels can not make all of the throws. He throws a terrible screen pass to his runningback and the kid is 6'6. Highlands offense has no slant or hitch routes in it so it's hard to say he can make those throws accurately but I think he could. He is very mobile especially for his size but not as mobile as Lorenzen was. He is not fast. Fast is the quarterback that Highlands will face in the state finals. Towels throws a great deep out and long ball and is tough to bring down for most high school kids. My opinion is that he is definately a High major D1 recruit at quarterback.

Last he's not better than Zeke Pike imo.

I am a huge Highlands fan, but i agree. He is horrible at screen passes. Seems like he is good at the hard stuff and bad at the easy stuff. His deep ball is pretty good though. On slants outs and hitches: he is above average for sure with is rocket arm, his accuracy will improve this year. I do agree that so far Pike has the edge on him for Soph and JR years. But there is one more chapter left, SR year. Towles is a crazy hard worker and will eclipse his rival this year.
