Belfry vs Pikeville. Is it still a rivalry?
#31
One thing everyone knows that has played under coach haywood and his staff is that they want to kill them every year they play them!

Real Badman Wrote:Well the last eight seasons Belfry has won the majority of those games

2008 @ Pikeville W 48-7
2007 vs Pikeville W 49-7
2006 @ Pikeville W 24-20
2005 vs Pikeville W 36-13
2004 @ Pikevile W 30-0
2003 vs Pikeville W 28-6
2002 @ Pikeville W 20-13
2001 vs Pikeville W 21-0
2000 @ Pikeville L 31-14

I would have to agree with NCF. It looks like here latly Belfry had just been running over Pikevile

Since 2001 belfry has beaten Pikeville be a combined score of 236-70!

At one time was one of the best rivalries in the state, but has been just rediculous in Belfrys favor the past 10 years except for 2006 & 2002 (The years Pikeville has been the real deal like they used to be) IMO it will heat back up when the past two years Jr. High teams get to be upperclassmen.

It's still that complicated to the people from Pikeville, who I like a lot but to a fan who goes to many, many games in two to three states a year this game is no longer on the radar.

I think you are 100% correct. the sizzle is about here and the grease will be popping again! I agree with Hail Pikeville, rivalaries vary through the yrs. I believe change is coming--------- good change--------:rock on:

Not on your radar, but I assure you it stays on the radar of Pikeville and Belfry fans in a HUUUGE way. And that's what makes a rivalry.

I think it will be back on your radar soon. You should come to the Pike County Bowl and meet Pikeville's new coach.

You are 100% correct. The sizzle is sooner than we think(i believe). I agree with Hail Pikeville, rivalries vary through the years. The hiring of coach Howard created something that we feel , more than we see. IMO

What I find interesting is that whenever the "Pikeville shouldnt even be playing Belfry anymore" type statements are made on here from time to time it always comes from Belfry fans. I would expect some defeatist Pikeville fans to say this but not from the team doing the throttling.

Big Grin

Advanced Smack Talking 101... it accomplishes three things:

1. Praise Belfry as being on a different level as their county rival
2. Truly demoralizes a proud Panther fanbase
3. Enables those same Panther "defeatists" to then pick up and run with it.

I was a fan of the new coach when he played as far as making the 5 1/2 drive to Pikeville this year I do not see the match ups being worth it. I was hping to make the drive but will spend week one closer to home.

I will send you the tape...You probably won't recognize it as being Pikeville...

Cool. I was able to watch most of the games from Pike County last season on tape and enjoyed doing so.

Be glad you still have a rivalry. Not trying to start anything, but I will miss ours.
