It must be. Most Belfry people have Pikeville on their mind all the time. You're living proof.
#3
I think that it is still a rivalry. Maybe not as big as it use to be.
#4

I still think this is a good rivalry in EKY. Sure it has gone down hill the past two years. I believe Pikeville gave Belfry all they could handal in the '06 season im thinking the score was 24-20 or something like that?

Ok let's try this. He started a thread trying to get people to say the 03 or 04 Belfry teams were the best, but instead got Pikeville's 87 team as a favorite. So now, to counter-act that, is going for an anti-Pikeville thread. Sound about right?

Sorry that was my 13 year old cousin he kind of strange. Lol. Any way is there stiull a rivalry?

The rivalry has certainly lost it's luster and competitiveness in recent years, but there is no debate that this is not still a rivalry.

Even if one team were to win 20 straight games (which at this rate may be a possibility), the fact it is city/county, and the fact that it is by far te two most historic programs in Pike County will assure the rivalry.

This thread is proof that there are several Belfry fans who even when the Pirates are dominating the series can't get their minds off what those boys in the indepenent school district is doing. Conversely, nearly every Pikeville fan will tell you they root for Belfry to win State every year, but deep down each Panther fan secretly smiles anytime one of these posts randomly appear on here saying Belfry recruits.

The fact is rivalries transcend sports. Pikeville and Belfry both have highly successful athletics departments in general at both the High School and Feeder level. These kids grow up playing competitive games against their counterparts at all levels, throughout each season of the year. Additionally, Pikeville supporters LOOOOVE their academic prowess and have an imprinted desire to mention this as much as possible. Belfry has seemingly emerged as the best academic school in the County school system, but still are not on Pikeville Independents level.

The rivalry is still there and will always be there. I may be a Belfry fan but I would love nothing more than to see Pikeville return to their previous levels of strength as soon as possible. Having these two teams both playing at their best will be nothing but a positive for those communities, those programs, Pike County, the mountains, and all of Kentucky.

So here's to hoping Howard turns it around quickly for Pikeville and Belfry starts winning every year but by much closer margins Wink!

I think it will take a few years to become a competitive rivalry again, but it can be done.

For the most part this has become just another game on the Belfry schedule.

And you would know this how.......

Well the last eight seasons Belfry has won the majority of those games

2008 @ Pikeville W 48-7
2007 vs Pikeville W 49-7
2006 @ Pikeville W 24-20
2005 vs Pikeville W 36-13
2004 @ Pikevile W 30-0
2003 vs Pikeville W 28-6
2002 @ Pikeville W 20-13
2001 vs Pikeville W 21-0
2000 @ Pikeville L 31-14

I would have to agree with NCF. It looks like here latly Belfry had just been running over Pikevile

Don't think people from Paintsville and Ohio really know what the Pikeville/Belfry rivalry means to the two schools and their fans...no offense...

Well actually Im from Pikeville. But a rivalry is a rivalry weither its St. X/Trinity, Paintsville/JC or Pikeville/Belfry. I know how the Pikeville fans want their team to beat Belfry and in the same way Belfry wants to keep there win streak alive. all it is, is a rivalry between two Pike County teams battling for pride and dominance.
#25
Is it still a rivalry? Yes and it always will be. Belfry has had the upper hand the last few years but alot of rivalries have been one sided over the years only to balance out.
Heres 3 examples

'Bama/Auburn-Until the Tide killed Auburn this past year. Auburn had won 5 or six straight against Alabama.

Ohio State/Michigan-The Wolverines beat The Buckeyes every year but 1 in the 90s but now OSU has won six straight

Yankees/RedSox-The Yankees beat Boston in every important game they played against each other for 90 years! But still this has always been considered one of the biggest rivalries in american sports.

So you see. Just because one team has enjoyed a string of consecutive victories doesnt mean the rivalry is over and those streaks dont last forever.

It is still a big rivalry. Whatever sizzle that may have disappeared from this series the last few years, the hiring of Howard just brought it all back.
