So is this year possibly a one hit wonder for them or will they be relevant years to come? How does the underclass man and middle school rosters look for Pburg? I remember back from 2000 to 2010 them and Belfry were the 2 best teams in the region. That was right before Johnson Central became a football power.
Prestonsburg loses the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball after this year, and overall they will be losing half of their team. I think I counted 30 kids the other night who were dressed out, and with a big senior class, it looks like Brewer will be in another rebuilding mode for the next couple of years. They have some talent in the Freshman and Sophomore classes, but as I said earlier, they just don't have the numbers to be competitive against elite teams in 2A. I don't understand why all of a sudden Prestonsburg is having trouble getting kids out. I remember not too long ago it was unheard of for Prestonsburg to have under 45 or 50 kids.
A successful soccer program at a small school like Prestonsburg is going to hurt football numbers. I wish the two seasons weren’t at the same time. The football program could use some of the speed and athleticism on the soccer team.
Bingo. Prestonsburg has one of, if not the best , soccer programs in the region. When you've got an athletic kid coming up through middle school seeing the soccer program competing for regional titles every year and the football program having 2-3 win seasons then it doesn't take alot of thought for an athlete to decide what he wants to focus his energy on in the summer and fall. But, that being said, Prestonsburg is still a football city. You could see that by the massive turnout for the BL game. I think all it would take is 2 or 3 7-8 win football seasons to bring those athletes back to football. But, we'll see how it goes. I hope the players stay excited this year and push themselves. That's what it's gonna take, and a win against the old ball coach this Friday will cause this fan base to explode. I'm looking forward to it!

They got the kicker from soccer, which is usually what happens. I don't think that there is another kid on that soccer team that could help our football program is maybe adding to the numbers. We are a long way away from being dominant in football like the past. All we can hope for is that we get some recruits in soon!(08-23-2022, 04:30 PM)BlackcatAlum Wrote:(08-23-2022, 02:59 PM)Blackcat 4 Life Wrote:(08-23-2022, 02:09 PM)pirateforlife Wrote: I see nearly half the roster for Pburg are seniors. That was right before Johnson Central became a football power. After this season Prestonsburg is going to lose probably 8 or 9 starters on both sides of the ball. The biggest hit will be on the line. This team currently starts a freshman center and a freshman at linebacker. Two sophomores are probably their two best playmakers and then their are two juniors who start or play significant time. Most of the rest of the underclassman have a long ways to go in their development. It’s going to take a full off season of commitment in the weight room and wrestling and track to get a lot where they need to be for 2023.
Adams Middle 7/8th & 5/6th grade teams have a lot of talent coming up and kids from football families. When this 8th grade class are juniors and seniors Prestonsburg will be a top 10 team in 2A and should continue to be for the foreseeable future.

You're right, Matman. There has always been talent in the feeder system, but it seems like all of the kids start to leave around middle school. The abundance of talent that Prestonsburg has lost over the past five years is crazy, and they can't allow this younger group to start transferring. If things don't get better at the high school in the next couple of years, it wouldn't surprise me to see kids start to leave. I hope not but that has been the trend around P-Burg of late.

For anyone not watching this game, Jarvis is lighting it up 2 plays and about 130 or 140 yards and two touchdowns second half alone.
26 to 12 pburg up with 2:47 in the third
Gave up a big passing touchdown because the cover was somehow blown bad blunder on the part of the blackcats
4th quarter
Pburg 26
Magoffin 12
Big Fourth down right here Magoffin 4 and 6 in the red zone down by 2 touchdowns
blown coverage magoffin scores 26 to 18 Pburg still up
Took a timeout before that play and everything, wonder what happened there?
2:30ish and Magoffin takes over possession
Have got to prepare a better pass defense if they lose this game, it's because they could not play in coverage.
Pburg with a huge stop to win the game 26 to 18
