Simon Kenton/Collins Predictions August 23
#31
You can take this to the bank...Collins will not miss a PAT. They will line up the best Jr. kicker in the state in one Blanton Creque. Want my prediction??
Collins 45 SK 35.

How do you leave Central off this list?

Lex Cath, Cov Cath and JC have all proved they are much better than Collins in many games against Highlands the last 4 years! I just threw some names off the top of my head really quick and knew I would forget somebody. Central surely belongs on that list and would pound Collins IMO.

Tommy2tone Wrote:I have never said they are the best team in the state. I simply said they might have the best skill core group of anyone. I have seen too many HS games not to know what I see. Most groups have 1 or 2 maybe 3 skill kids. Collins can put 7 out there and never loose a beat and I am telling you, you can not key on anyone person. I still say they just might be the 2nd best team in the state. You guys and talk all you want that they would be the 6th best in the east. This group has been building something special over the last 4 years and it is their time to shine. We will play them one game at a time. We might lose a couple but here and there but Collins is working toward getting back to BG.

You did say 2nd best team in the state, not in 4A.

Skill players not team....Lets just drop it...

How in the world do you come up with that Central would pound Collins?
We are not talking history here based on what those schools have done vs. highlands the last 4 years...This is this year, those were those years.

You are the one who asked what those schools have done over the last 4 years that Collins hasn't and I answered your question.

Collins lost to Bryan Station last year SK beat Bryan Station! Enough said! Big Grin

What does last year have to do with this year?
SK went on to lose in the playoffs and Collins went to the finals!

Did you not see the schedules of the two teams? Big difference. Collins will make it to state finals again this year because the competition on their side of the bracket is terrible. That does not make you a great team.

Last season (2012) Highlands was clearly the dominant champion of 4A – no one came close. Outside of Trinity, I could count on one hand the number of teams that may have had a chance to beat Highlands. And it’s easy to reason that Lex Cath, Cov Cath, and Boyle Cty would have beaten Collins in playoffs, based on their point spread against Highlands and their schedules/results . Outside these teams, it’s all pie-in-the-sky speculation if other 4A teams on the eastern side of KY would have beaten Collins. There were other 4A teams that fared better against Highlands like Western, but then Collins beat Western so you can’t always go by point spread and who-played-who. Yes, I understand the cumulative effect of playing tougher regular season opponents (injuries, etc.), but I also know that playing a better schedule can make you a better team.

Also, a look at 2012 results at KHSAA shows me that Collins may have played a tougher regular season schedule than Simon Kenton. Collins clearly played much tougher schedule to open the season, played four 6A teams total, three of these games were away, finishing 2-2 against 6A, 3-2 if you include Lafayette scrimmage, played like a real game. Four of these 6A schools ended with winning records. Collins fared just as well if not better than SK against 6A opponents (Meade, Eastern, Bryan St and Old Cty) than did Simon Kenton (Ryle, Campbell Cty, Boone Cty, Dixie H, Scott Ct) finishing 2-3 against 6A opponents for the regular season. Yes, SK did beat Bryan St 29-22 in playoffs (only common opponent with Collins) the week after Collins lost a heart-breaker 55-52 in overtime at BS. Collins did lead that game 49-42 with 1:37 to go, but BS threw a Hail Mary that got tipped by Collins DB into hands of BS player to take the game and beating Collins in overtime. The overtime was played in driving rain, but I am not one to make excuses! Wink

SK played two 5A teams, two 2A teams and one 1A team including eventual 2A champion Newport Central Catholic, probably SK's best win of the season (or would it be Campbell Cty or Bry St?) Yes, I know you can’t always go by level, but looking at SK's other lower level opponent’s results/schedules, they were not extraordinary teams like NCC. Collins did not play any teams in levels below 4A which included Boyle Cty. Collins best win was probably against Meade Ct (away) last year, maybe Warren East based on score 58-7 (but WE played weak schedule according to what a read). To sum, Collins played five 6A schools last year (four with winning records). SK played five 6A schools, finishing 2-3, the two teams they beat did have winning records. Yes, SK’s playoff schedule was clearly tougher than Collins (Collins can’t do anything about that) as they beat Bry St, turned it around on Campbell Cty (after reg. season loss) and then got obliterated by Scott County.

The two severe losses at the hands of Scott County were clearly SK’s worst of the season, 47-9 and 56-6. Collin’s worst loss was, again, the annihilation by Highlands 47-0. Yes, Highlands probably could have scored more than 47 against Collins, but they actually did do that against several opponents, including Scott County, winning 60-37. So Scott County lost by 23 to Highlands, but beat SK TWICE by an average of 44 points (38 and 50). Again, Highlands beat Collins by 47, Scott by 23 which beat SK TWICE by an average of 44 points. Does this mean Highlands would have beaten SK by 67?! Probably not, but based on the 2012 results, it's easy to think that SK would have been beaten by a wider margin than was Collins.

Just wanted to defend Collin's schedule a lilttle. And I realize that, come Friday night, 2012 will not matter one IOTA. Here’s to having an injury free game with the best team prevailing!

If Collins beats SK Friday night and has decent season, will you consider them at least a good team (since you and others have been saying that SK was going to be really good this year?). If not, then your saying that the only way Collins can prove they are a great team is by beating Highlands in the championship. This is a pretty tall order considering that only ONE KY team has been able to do that in recent years.

You forget to mention Holmes scored 28 on Highlands. Holmes could only score on a fumble recovery against Simon Kenton. Also Simon Kenton shut out Ryle. Ryle scored 20 points on Highlands.

I said it before. I think Collins will be good this year and might make it to the finals. But they won't beat the Pioneers!
#46
and Western scored 23 on Highlands and Collins beat Western, we could go on and on and on with this game...Ryle and Holmes not mentioned because Ryle had losing season and Holmes not that much better...You are proving my point ...that the point spreads don't mean that much when it comes down to the end of the season...and at the end of the season SK was pummeled by Scott and Collins by Highlands....and Highlands beat Scott.

If Collins beats SK, I have the feeling some of you will not say they are a good team unless they beat Highlands in championship...if so, then according to your standards, there are no other good teams in KY outside of Trinity and Highlands
#47
No Simp, SK ranks right up there with Trinity and Highlands...

Weather is going to be great. The crowd will be large. The parking will be a disaster. Get there at least hour early. For those who can't make the game, the game will be on 93.3 Wxln...you can find it on the web at wxln.com or tune-in radio app on your smart phone. Pregame starts at 7 with the Doug Hammond and Scott Corn, the biggest homers in all of ky. They will give you all you want to know.
