RunItUpTheGut's Rankings For the Week Of 9/11

This Bell Co. should be rated higher than Bell Co. is getting on my nerves. Bell Co. might be better than Harlan Co. but in ANY POLL, if a team loses, they drop. Regardless who it is.

Thats retarded. Im sick of hearing what you just said.
If Trinity gets beat by 1 points at Cincy St X this weekend is there a team that deserves to be ranked ahead of them? NO.
I hate the logic you have presented, its whats wrong with the mountain top 10 and the reason you have small 1A school that couldnt stand a chance against bigger school pop up every once in a while

Suggestions for a new top 10?
Where should the be SD?

This is true when the poll is all encompassing of all the teams included, but when the sample size is only a fraction of the whole that is not the case.

If Perry Central played the #1 6A school in Texas and lost by 1 point should they fall in the Mountain Top 10? If Hazard traveled to Trinity and lost by a field goal does that mean they should fall in the 1A rankings behind a team who beats Jenkins by 30?

Polls reflect a subjective "opinion" of who is the best team in the sample group. Louisville Central loses 4-6 regular season games a year and remain the top 3A team. Why? Because in the past 5 years they have only lost once to a 3A team, all their losses come at the hands of 6A schools.

Based on your logic Bell County should be ranked behind Pikeville, Betsy Layne, and Powell County. Teams they would defeat by 5+ TD's.

This. this is spot on.

I agree, Polling is based on in game performance (Not necessarily Win/Loss). A ranked team could actually fall after a sub-par performance against a sub-bar team...even if they get the win. Say Somerset plays south laurel and wins 46-43 in OT, and everyone just below them performs as good as (or better than) expected. Then Somerset could/should slip a notch or two. It's all based on the opinion of those providing the poll (RIUTG, and the user's replys) about on how the POLLED teams would perform against one another.

Of the teams on the fringe of top 10 in 4A, you might consider Lone Oak (2-2) and Franklin Simpson (3-1). Of course, Rowan County has already been mentioned as well.

Lone Oak got smashed by PT in their first game, then won two games; one of which was a 26-0 beat down of a pretty good Marshall Co. They just lost to a good Christian Co team 32-27. They aren't there yet, but probably won't remain off the radar long.

Franklin-Simpson's one loss is from a very good Warren Central team.

These three teams would be my 11-13 at this point. A slip by any of the teams 5-10 could put one of these teams in.

First bolded, They would fall regardless. If a team loses, they drop. Whether it's to a good team and they drop one of two, or a bad team and they drop 8 or 9.

Not necessarily. Bell Co. lost to Lexington Catholic, a great team. They would only move down one. If it was a bad team, they would've dropped more.

Guys, I'm not saying that Bell isn't better than Harlan Co. I truely think they are. But if a team loses, they drop in the rankings. That's the way it's always been.

Let's say NewCath loses in 2 OT to Beechwood the final week of the season.

Now let's say Owen County...with maybe the easiest schedule in the state... finishes undefeated. You are telling me that in your opinion, New Cath would deserve to be ranked (and thus considered in general terms) below Owen County?

NewCath would spank them by at least 4 TD's, but according to your criteria the team considered to be the best is Owen County.

What's the point of a "ranking" if it doesn't express a value? If we are just going to put a list of good teams together then why assign a number? Just list them with commas.

A poll is data, albeit typically a very subjective set, but it serves absolutely no purpose if the data is not indicative of what it actually is meant to represent.

If a team loses, they drop in the polls, whether it's the Mountain Top 10, or the BCS Standings. I'm done with this discussion. It's pointless.
#41
If team A is better than team B. Team loses to a far superior opponent. Team B beats a far inferior opponent. Team A is still better than Team B. Not that hard.

General rule of thumb. Never mention the bcs as being a accurate poll

I only have one condition, you cant move Harlan Co. ahead of Bell unless Harln co. beats them or Bell loses again. Id really like to have someone put time and consideration into it.
Deal?

Yeah, I would love to do the Mountain Top 10 every week. I guess I can abide by your one condition, because Bell Co has played a tougher schedule to this point.
