Ironton, OH @ Russell 9/3

I listened to a post game interview with coach Lutz a few years back. He stated that their JFL, middle school, freshman teams ect. run exactly the same offense and defense that the High School does. And that all he does is 'plug in' the rising players at the HS level, same position same everything. It's one formula for a successful program.

Coach Hart is basically doing a very similar (structure wise) program at Ashland. Quality JFL, middle, freshman and jv teams feed the HS. The teams mentioned are all successful on the field and send up good players.

They all start weight training at the right time and work for their playing spots. I would say Ashland's program is showing the signs of being healthy evidenced by a yearly crop of good players. They are integrated into a very good system by very good coaches as their season's records have shown.

I have nothing but respect for our area coaching staffs, they are class, and that includes Ohio. Let's just say that Ashland has done well staff wise as well, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a good team every year for the foreseeable future to come out of Ashland.

Badcat. That last time Russell beat them was 77. I may have been thinking that 7-6 game in 90 was when GC beat them.

Here this is off off irontons own web site! Ashland best ironton 87/88 season 20-19
An the 85 season my senior year was 21-6 86-87 42-0 ? 1990 tomcats won 15-10
Far as I can tell Russell beat ironton only 1 time 23-14 in 1977when they won state

An I didn't see here greenup ever beat them so I stand corrected!

Ugh.... sorry frogtown I got a little trigger happy thought you were posting scores of Ashland/ ironton. But in fact it was greenup/ironton. :eyeroll:

Wow. Why do all these threads have to turn into the locals arguing with each other. Especially when it comes to playing a team across the river. Ohio football laughs in the face of Kentucky. I love it when any Kentucky school beats the buckeyes! I'm pulling hard that the Russell pulls the upset. Good luck to your Devils Fball! Be a stepping stone in experience if nothing else comes good out of it.

Some us on here know each other pretty well and just like to trash talk a little. Right badcat. It's all in fun.

Thanks Ramfan 04. Russell needs all the luck they can get this week.

It's all good! Hahaha. It wouldn't be any fun if there wasn't some mud slingin besides me an fball go way back!! Just like to push each others buttons! :flame::devilflam. I would like to see Russell beat ironton! But just don't think it's very likely, They have had a few teams that would've played well with ironton in the last decade but just not the last couple yrs.

The scores I listed were Ironton/Greenup games, not Ironton/Ashland. If you go to http://www.irontonfootball.com and click on seasons by opponent you can check the history of scores from all Ironton games by year and opponent. According to that very reliable site, Greenup has never beaten Ironton. They did play Ironton to a very close 7-6 loss in 90.

This game will get ugly quick. I just hope none of the Russell players get hurt. Russell is young and are going to take there lumps this year. The Jr's are getting good experience and but just does not have the Senior's to help fill the voids they need. Ironton can name there score at the HANK this year.
