Shelby Valley @ Corbin 11/13

Intresting game when you compare the backs.

Roberts and Hughes.

Watkins and Fritz.

My assesment of this games preview.

SV has a great offensive line, the only team to really handle them all year is Lawrence Co, and we all see how good the bulldogs are doing for themselves this year. Corbin has a young line, one senior I belive. This game is going to be won at the point of attack. A battle that I belive is won by SV. Watkins is good, if he gets some room he is on second level fast. IMO Corbin has played a great schedule, but have not faced a Offensive backfield like SV. Roberts, Hughes, TT and Varney always make plays. There is not a fan/spectator this year that will tell you diffrent, or that Tanner isnt one of the best MLB in the state. I belive that Valley is bigger and faster, 3 of SV backs are over 6' . I respect Corbin, and know they are going to be the most physical team the wildcats will face all season.

This is going to be a great game, and a predict a slugfest the whole game.

Shelby Valley in a close one. whoever has the least turnovers will win...

If they're out, I take Shelby Valley by the same 10 points...

I had heard Watkins and Fritts didn't play last week, so i asked a couple people and they said that both had suffered some nagging injuries. I hope that these two can fight through what ever it is, because Corbin without these two just isnt Corbin.

Corbin has 3 seniors who start on the offensive line, which is not real big although they average about 225 lbs across the front including the TE. The defensive line is small at times, depending on who is in the game as they rotate a few kids there. The RB's weigh in at about 210, 185 & 180 with the QB at 195. How much bigger is Shelby Valley and how good is their passing game?
Shelby Valley will have to win the turnover battle or have some big special teams plays to beat Corbin.

Playing with some numbers this weekend and discovered Valley held P-burg to the fewest points scored. Valley can play defense.
Valley's O-line is solid. The center has to be a Div.1. prospect based upon size alone.
This game will look like a Big 10 game fron the 70's. Ground and Pound.
I agree with everyone who said turnovers will be the deciding factor. Whoever holds onto the ball WINS.
Corbin gets 2 points for being home, so I'll pick the hounds by 2. Prove me wrong Valley. I'm pulling for you.

Don't see this being a game. Here's some love from Bell Co. Corbin 35-7.
#37
some of the bigger kids for SV

Tanner Tackett FB/MLB 6'3 220 lbs.
Cody Varney QB 6'2" 175
BJ Robers HB/OLB 6'1 195lbs
Donovon Hamilton TE/DE 6'3" 195
Dillion Tackett OC 6'6" 310 lbs.
Austin Kranzman DT 6'2" 285 lbs.
Rusty Roberts WR/ CB 6'2" 186

just some numbers thrown out.
SV is playing their best football right now. They have been close all season. The three teams that beat SV this year finished their season with a record of 28-2. Valley lost two of those game by single digits. I really belive that SV is going to take that jump to the next level.

BJ is one of the best total football players in the state.

I think the tough hardnosed game that SV played against Prestonsburg this year showed that they can hang with the Big Dogs or in this case the Redhounds. Im gonna say that it will be a tough smashmouth game and SV comes out with a very close win.

Corbin 42-21. SV wont beat Corbin at Corbin or even if it was at Valley. Corbin is a 3 td better team, Mark it down, pencil in a W, Corbin by 21.

They'll play. I dont know if it was so much nagging injury as it was resting the top dogs. Corbin will be fine and win 35-14

So i take it that you didn't go to or listen to the Shelby Valley vs Prestonsburg game? SV played IMO played the best 2A team really tough the first three quarters and got a little tired at the end though and allowed another td. But, SV was right there with them pretty much the entire game. And that game was at Prestonsburg! So i think that game proved that SV can hang with any 2A team and that shows that they have a great chance to beat Corbin!

This should be a good one to watch. I think that if Corbin comes out playing their best football, they will win this one by a couple touchdowns. We have been a little up and down this year and we could come out kinda flat in which case this could be a real battle.

I'm sure coach Jewell will have the hounds fired up and ready to go. They won't be over looking SV one bit so I'm going to say Corbin in a good game 28 - 14.

I hope we see an injury free and well called game Friday night.

GO STATE BOUND HOUNDS !!!!!

My heart will just not let me pick against shelby valley, i think the home team has a little advantage but sv's fans travel well and i think the game will be so close it will be decided by who makes the fewest mistakes. I do expect bj, hughs(if he plays) to have another good running game and along with tanner tackett and varney to play both good defense and offense. The players know they have never gotten past the first game in playoffs, so they may make history friday. Go sv, go wildcats!!

I simply can't see SV traveling to Corbin and doing very well. In all reality...this game may be the biggest football game since the consolidation of SV. My gut tells me SV's not going to fair well against the Redhounds on the road....

This has nothing to do with the Corbin game but I'm going to say it anyway. You do realize Prestonsburg only passed the ball 1 time in the 2nd half against Valley, right? And that pass was a 4th and goal from the 3 yard line for a TD. Prestonsburg's offensive coordinator didn't call the plays that week due to an illness he had suffered. DeRossett was the play caller and you could tell by the run game Prestonsburg demonstrated throughout. But that is neither here nor there.

For this game, I'm going to go with SV. Valley has a rush attack that I'm not sure Corbin has faced all year long. Valley has 3 real threats on offense and all 3 are tough, hardnosed players.

However, if Corbin comes out and can win the battle of the line of scrimmage, then it could be a long night for SV. SV has a big offensive line that can really take out your biggest defensive weapons, as they did against P-burg.

This will be a fantastic game to attend, but my gut is telling me SV wins this game on a long, late 4th quarter drive.

IMO corbin has already faced 2 teams with better rushing attacks then SV. Im not saying this is going to enable Corbin to shut down SV running game. Corbin has had some trouble against teams who can run the ball well, shown by their losses to Clark and LCA. I dont have a prediction for this game yet, but i sure hope its an exciting one to watch.

Yeah, i realize that i watched the entire game!!

I also agree with what else you have to say about SV, its true. I think SV is gonna come into Corbin tonight and suprise alot of people and come out with a win. It might not be a pretty win but it'll be a win.

Corbin will be ready and I don't believe they will be watching next week.

We played both teams this season and this will be one heck of a football game. Corbin dressed over 60 and has alot of depth. Corbin's team and coaching staff were a class act all the way.

If Corbin defends their home field with the attitude you have, you'll see the Pike County buses loading up the Shelby Valley football team to Prestonsburg next Friday.

Good luck SV! Cant see the Cats beating Corbin with Watkins and Fritz,, but here's hoping they make it happen!
