Beamerball,

Who would you say has better football programs, SEKY or SWVA?

I'm talking about Belfry, Pikeville, Breathitt County, Prestonsburg, Corbin, Johnson Central, Bell County, Middlesboro, etc.

That's a tough one, unless I took some time to look at each overall, think you'd have to break it down and taking in enrollment disparity. It kind of seems like a lot of either or in east KY, really good or really bad. There's not a lot of good matchups either during each season when the teams from both states play each other, or maybe it just seems that way to me...seems there's usually more lopsided scores for both sides. Guess I'd give the nod to East KY, BUT not sure it would be right to compare a lot though, because in SWVA you don't see teams with 1000+ enrollments. The closest in the immediate far southwest area is Abingdon, with over 900. Carroll County is some 3 hours away from Lee High, they have over 1100 students...you really don't get those over 1000+ until you get to Roanoke and points east. So, I'd guess you'd have to match up teams with those similar in size... And as a whole statewide for both, that's another story now, haha.

I see your point, but the only school I listed a few posts above that have close or over 1000+ students is Johnson Central. The others are within' the 400-800 range.

Was thinking more overall. Those "top" teams, maybe SWVA.

Beamerball Wrote:Who are you comparing them (teams like Clintwood) too though? If we're going with top SWVA teams, I'd go with more of the Richlands, Gate City, Clintwood, J.I. Burton, Lebanon, etc. route instead also.

And VA's system watered down? Hope that's not compared to KY's...LOL. No way that could be serious, haha.

Well.. if Clintwood has been in the state title game the last 2 years...Who else would we need to compare them to? Valley, is who I would consider a "solid" team in this area, played them pretty tough looks like, and Valley is nowhere near a state title contender in 2A here.

And I am from the days of 4 classes in KY, so I think that the KY class is a little watered down too. Moreso at the top, then the bottom. Point being. If Clintwood is a top tier team in VA. Then VA football, atleast compared to KY top 1 and 2 A teams .....is weak.

Maybe a top 5 team...in their division, Div. 1.

That's the power point rating system Virginia uses for it playoff seeding. Taking a look at one team in particular, Holston, they are #2 in the power point ratings, currently, but they're not the 2nd best team in Div. 1. They've just racked up some easier wins on the way to being undefeated...so far.

Here's a couple of computer rankings...
